WSJ Poll: Americans Losing Faith in College Degrees

A poll published on Thursday by the Wall Street Journal reveals that Americans are losing faith in college degrees.

According to the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, only 49 percent of Americans now believe that a four-year degree will lead to a good job and higher lifetime earnings. An overwhelming 47 percent claimed that they don’t believe a four-year degree will increase job and earnings prospects.

The findings reflect an increase in public skepticism of higher education from just four years ago and highlight a growing divide in opinion falling along gender, educational, regional and partisan lines. They also carry political implications for universities, already under public pressure to rein in their costs and adjust curricula after decades of sharp tuition increases.

Americans are increasingly concerned about the rising costs of an education. Student debt totals have reached $1.3 trillion, and millions have fallen behind on student-loan payments.

Pets abandoned, chained on leashes, as owners flee Hurricane Irma (video)

As the dangerous storm, Hurricane Irma, approaches Florida, many residents are fleeing to safer areas, but some are leaving their pets behind.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control director Diane Sauve has reported the unimaginable: many pets are being left chained to trees and parked cars, as their owners have left them behind to “ride out the storm” on their own.

“They are left in a yard, in a pen they cannot escape from or tethered to trees or poles,” Sauve said in an interview with WPTV5.

So far, 49 dogs and two cats have been rescued by animal control officers.

Three-Vehicle Crash On Road To Assateague Island Under Investigation

(BERLIN, MD) — Maryland State Police are continuing to investigate a three-vehicle crash that seriously injured at least one person and closed the road to Assateague Island late this afternoon.

Identifications and notifications to families are continuing, so the identities of those involved are not yet able to be released. The driver of one vehicle was flown out by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Berlin Barrack were dispatched to the report of a crash in the 7800-block of Stephen Decatur Highway. Upon arrival, troopers found three vehicles involved, at least one driver who was seriously injured and a crash scene that covered the entire roadway. Troopers had to close the roadway so emergency personnel could conduct rescue operations and so a crash investigation could be initiated and evidence collected.

The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle may have been traveling southbound in the northbound lane, when it struck two other vehicles. The exact cause and contributing factors remain under investigation at this time.

MD Department of Transportation State Highway Administration personnel are on the scene and are assisting with moving traffic through the area, either through a detour around the scene, or past the crash scene as soon as the debris can be cleaned up to permit this to occur. Troopers and SHA personnel are working as quickly as possible to reopen this road, understanding it is the main access road to Assateague Island.

Organizer Of Protest That Left 5 Cops Dead Arrested For Felony Theft

Officers of the Dallas Police Department arrested Dominque Alexander on Thursday, the black activist that organized the 2016 anti-police protest in Dallas that left 12 officers shot and five dead.

Alexander faces charges of felony theft, stemming from a previous employer who claims the activist received payments between $2,500 and $30,000 from clients without transferring them to the company, the Dallas Observerreported. Alexander was thrust into the national spotlight in July 2016 after chaos erupted in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter anti-police protest when an angry protestor opened fire on police, killing five and wounding seven. Alexander’s Next Generation Action Network sponsored and helped organize the protest.

“I’m so beyond outraged. This is a bogus-ass charge. It’s ridiculous,” Alexander told the Observer. “This is a civil issue. If I owe this guy money, this is a civil issue.”

Princeton Economist: Nearly Half Of Working Age Men Not In The Labor Force Take Opioids Daily

Esteemed Princeton professor and former Obama White House economist Alan Krueger is back with yet another prediction about why Americans, particularly men between the ages of 25-54, suddenly no longer have any interest in working. In his report, entitled "Where Have All The Workers Gone? An Inquiry Into The Decline Of The U.S. Labor Force Participation Rate," Krueger ponders the data below which reveal that the labor force participation rate among men, aged 25-54, started dropping around 1965 and has been steadily declining ever since.

University announces 100 percent free college to illegal aliens

Emory University, an elite, private institution in Atlanta, Georgia, has rolled out a new program, to be effective for the 2017 fall semester, that will provide free tuition to “undocumented students,” with or without DACA.

The new program, titled, “Need-Based Financial Aid Program for Undocument Students,” is detailed on the school website’s financial aid section.

The average tuition for Emory is about $50,000 annually for American students, and $70,000 for international students. While it is a private university, Emory also reportedly does receive state money.

However, the free tuition is not being offered to legal international students – only to those who are in the United States illegally. Even international students whose visa has expired not not eligible.

Lawyer Says FBI Covering ‘Rear End’ By Not Releasing Clinton Emails

Lawyer Ty Clevenger says the FBI is desperately trying to cover its tracks by not releasing former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Clevenger spoke with Tucker Carlson on Fox News Thursday night about his efforts to gain access through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. That request was denied and the lawyer said he originally wondered if former president Barack Obama was still running the FBI.

The FBI told him that his request “wasn’t in the public interest.”

“They’re saying the public doesn’t care,” Clevenger added.

“My understanding of the FOIA law was that the government has to have a compelling reason to deny your right to see public documents,” Carlson, one of the co-founders of The Daily Caller, continued.

Pay-To-Play: Chicago Tribune Blasts Rahm As Data Reveals 70% Of Donors Get Lucrative City Hall Contracts

What do you get when you combine the most corrupt city in the United States with a mayor that got his political debut serving in the Clinton White House? Well, according to data presented by the Chicago Tribune today, it may just all add up to the second most sophisticated 'pay-to-play' operation in history...you know, because no one will ever come close to beating the Clintons at their own game.

After reviewing more than 500 contributions made to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel of at least $5,000 since July 2015, the Tribune reports today that nearly 70% of them came from people who have received, or are seeking, lucrative contracts with City Hall. Frankly, we are 'shocked.'

As Mayor Rahm Emanuel ramps up his campaign fundraising toward a possible third term, he continues to rely on donors who have received City Hall benefits, ranging from contracts and zoning approvals to appointments and personal endorsements from the mayor, the Chicago Tribune has found.

With the February 2019 mayoral election still a year and a half away, Emanuel has collected $3.1 million in high-dollar contributions. And more than $2.1 million of it — nearly 70 percent — has come from 83 donors who have benefited from actions at City Hall.

Among the contributors: law firms seeking approval for their clients' projects or lucrative bond business for themselves, developers needing City Hall permission to build here, an events promoter negotiating the financial details of a major music festival and restaurateurs wanting coveted space at Chicago's airports.

So how does he do it?

Trump’s Justice Department Lets Lois Lerner Off The Hook

The Justice Department says it will not prosecute former IRS executive Lois Lerner for targeting conservative groups during the 2010 and 2012 elections.

In a letter to top Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, Assistant Attorney General Kevin Boyd said that after a careful review of the case, DOJ will not pursue charges against Lerner, who oversaw the IRS division that reviewed tax exempt organizations.

“After this process, the Department determined that reopening the investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence,” Boyd wrote Texas Rep. Kevin Brady, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, the chairman of the subcommittee on tax policy.

2014: Hillary said illegal-alien kids have to go

(Mediaite) As Hillary Clinton begins a book tour to promote her 2016 campaign autopsy “What Happened,” video has begun to swirl online of a 2014 interview between her and CNN’s Christiane Amanpour to promote her previous book, “Hard Choices.”

During the exchange, Clinton had some tough words for the children of illegal immigrants, including waves of unaccompanied minors coming in 2014 — telling Amanpour that the United States was a nation of laws and that they probably had to go.

“We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay,” said Clinton “So, we don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.”

“So, you’re saying they should be sent back now?” Amanpour inquired.

Here's everything you need to know about the Equifax data breach

NEW YORK —A huge security breach at credit reporting company Equifax has exposed sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers and addresses, of up to 143 million Americans.

Unlike other data breaches, those affected by the breach may not even know they're customers of the company.

Equifax is one of three nationwide credit-reporting agencies that track and rate the financial history of consumers. The company gets its data from credit card companies, banks, retailers and lenders -- sometimes without you knowing.

The data breach is among the worst ever because of the amount of people affected and the sensitive type of information exposed.

Styrofoam Insulation Ordinance Passed In OC

OCEAN CITY — Resort officials this week approved on second reading a building code amendment that will allow for stronger enforcement on pollution associated with the installation of Styrofoam insulation used on the exteriors of many development projects.

Through much of the summer, Ocean City officials have been attempting to address the pollution associated with the installation of Exterior Insulated Finish Systems (EIFS), most commonly known by the trade name Dry-Vit on many new construction projects in the resort. The EIFS are desirable because they can easily be adapted to fit unique architectural features on new buildings and are generally the most cost-effective insulations systems, but what is not desirable is the frequent “snowstorms” of plastic pellets that carry through the air and settle on adjacent properties, on the beaches and dunes and in the waterways.

On Tuesday, the Mayor and Council approved an amendment to the town’s building code that will require contractors to use best management practices to contain the snowstorm of Styrofoam pellets or run the risk of having a project shut down.

McAuliffe: 'Let's Tear Down' Those Confederate Monuments

Last week at a Brookings Institution forum on criminal justice reform, Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) said the Confederate monuments in his state should be torn down.

McAuliffe said, “Our efforts to date have started a long overdue conversation about how we view justice and how we can live up to our own American ideals. But we cannot continue that conversation without acknowledging how we got here in the first place. So, yes, let’s tear down those monuments and put them in the museums, the battlefields and the cemetery where they truly belong. But let us also tear down the insidious policies that keep inequality and racism alive in our institutions and in our attitudes. .”

He continued, “The greatest monuments that we can build to our nations core values We must actually live the American legacy that we all seek to honor by ensuring that every single child in this country has an equal shot to succeed, that every single man and woman who’s made a mistake has a chance to make it right and that every American has a place to call home. That’s what we work hard to do in Virginia under my watch.”

Supporting Christian Baker Who Refused To Create Gay Wedding Cake

What a difference a change in the White House makes.

On Thursday, the Trump Administration’s Department of Justice came down squarely on the side of Jack Phillips, the Christian baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

Phillips violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act after he refused to make a cake for the wedding of Charlie Craig and David Mullins in 2012. Craig and Mullins filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which ruled Phillips violated the state’s anti-discrimination law, a decision upheld by an appeals court. Colorado’s Supreme Court declined to take the case. The case, Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, was appealed to the Supreme Court, and Trump’s DOJ announced on Thursday that it had filed a brief on Phillips’ behalf.

The DOJ joined Phillips in his belief that that his cakes are a form of expression, and he cannot be forced to work on something violating his religious beliefs.

Daughter Says Biden Considering 2020 Run: 'I Think He Will Do It'

Former vice president Joe Biden's daughter Ashley revealed Thursday that her father is considering a 2020 run to regain the White House for the Democratic Party.

Ashley Biden said in an interview with Women's Wear Daily that her father was pondering a run, and that she thinks he will ultimately decide to do it.

The Biden family has been going through a grieving process for Joe's son Beau, who died in 2015 while serving as attorney general of Delaware. But Ashley Biden said the family has stayed united around her father as he considers the decision.

"He is more vivacious and has more energy in his 70s than I do in my 30s," she said of her father. "The man is sort of supercharged. So I think, if we get to that [decision] point, yeah, I think he will do it."

"A lot can happen in four years and we know this as a family," she said. "If he is in good health, knock on wood, and seeing what the landscape is at the time, yeah, I think he is considering it."

She expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of Biden running for president, but added that he has not decided for sure. Asked whether he will run, Ashley Biden said, "I hope so."

"We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole", said Bob, "But we don't have a ladder."

The woman said, "Hand me that wrench out of your toolbox."   She loosened a few bolts, then laid the pole down. She then took a tape measure from their toolbox, took a measurement and announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches" and walked away.

Ray shook his head and laughed. "Well, ain't that just like a 'Miss-know-it-all' woman?" he said. "We need the height and she gives us the length!"

County Against Funding Little League Lights

BERLIN – County officials voted not to provide funding for field lights to Pocomoke Little League.

The Worcester County Commissioners voiced no objections to Pocomoke Little League’s plan to install additional field lights at Newtown Park but voted not to provide any funding for the project. Paige Hurley, the county’s director of recreation and parks, said the county already provided fields, maintenance and electricity to local Little League groups.

“In the past there have been numerous requests for financial assistance beyond the already significant cost borne by the county in our attempts to provide suitable recreational outlets for Worcester County organizations,” Hurley said. “In the past they’ve been denied because we feel this could serve as a precedent upon which other organizations could seek similar assistance.”

Hurley told the commissioners Pocomoke Little League had asked for permission to install additional lights on Field 2 at Newtown Park. The organization had also asked for $10,000 to help defray the cost of light system as well as an “undefined” contribution to help with the overall project. In addition, the league requested that the county cover the electricity costs associated with the lights.

A Viewer Writes: Praise for Mayor of Baltimore

Mayor of Baltimore removes statutes

"Praise" needs to be given to the mayor of Baltimore. For years the black community has been under assault by 4 Confederate monuments. These monuments were relentless in their destruction of the black family as over 70% of black children were born out of wedlock.

So terrified by the presence of these monuments, over 60% of black men in the city could not work a job and found comfort in fathering numerous children with numerous women that they could not feed.

Just knowing that the monuments were there made black school children have the lowest test scores in the Nation and many turned to drugs to relieve the sting of the monuments presence.

Worst of all, the mere presence of the monuments caused death. Not being able to handle the hate and violence that the monuments represented, the black males in the city took to killing each other by the thousands. Just in the last 2 years alone, they have murdered 500 of their own.

Praise be to God and the wisdom of the mayor..... It is a new dawn for black Baltimoreans!.....

The shackles have been removed and all that can be said is....  "Free at last, free last, Lord God Almighty, we're free at last"

Hurricane Irma downgraded to Category 4; Storm barrels toward Florida

Life-threatening winds and storm surges are expected in Florida as the storm arrives

Irma, a deadly Category 4 storm with the potential for 155 mph sustained winds, is expected to make landfall in Florida on Sunday morning.

Irma will continue to bring life-threatening winds and waters to portions of the Bahamas and the north coast of Cuba, especially over the adjacent Cuban Keys, through Saturday, the National Hurricane Center says.

The storm is making landfall in Cuba as a Category 5 hurricane, hurricane center forecaster Robbie Berg said in an 11 p.m. EDT Friday advisory, based on findings from an Air Force plane monitoring the storm.

The storm has killed at least 22 people in the Caribbean and left thousands homeless as it devastated small resort islands.

Baltimore on track to surpass New York City in homicides for first time

For the first time, Baltimore is on track to surpass New York City in homicides — a grim feat once considered inconceivable.

New York, which has a population of 8.5 million, had 182 homicides as of Sept. 3, according to police department data. Baltimore, a city of less than 620,000, was already at 238 victims as of that date, records show.

The distinction owes more to New York’s stunning decline in crime than Baltimore’s relatively stubborn crime rate.

New York once saw more than 2,000 homicides a year in the early 1990s, a figure that tumbled over the course of that decade.

Still, just a few years ago, New York’s total number of homicides topped 500 annually, and in 2011 Baltimore recorded fewer than 200 killings for the first time in decades.

But New York’s murder rate continued to decline, and Baltimore’s spiked, with more than 300 homicides in 2015 and 2016.

Man Gets More Jail Time After Probation Violation

SNOW HILL — A local man, sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the death of a Pennsylvania man in Ocean City in August 2014, was sent back to jail for six more months last week for a probation violation.

In January 2015, Caleb Edwin-Earl Ochse, now 30, of Ocean City, pleaded guilty to affray, a common law charge essentially indicating he was guilty of participating in a fight in a public place, and had all but 18 months of his six-year sentence suspended. Ochse had been charged with manslaughter for his role in a fight on a downtown street that ultimately led to the death of Justin Cancelliere, 37, of North Whitehall, Pa. in 2014.

Ochse pleaded guilty to affray as part of a plea agreement and was sentenced to six years with all but 18 months suspended. Ochse served the sentence and was placed on supervised probation for two years which included routine drug testing. Ochse recently tested positive for a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), which violated the terms of his probation. As a result, the original case against him was reopened. Following a violation of probation hearing last Friday, Ochse was sentenced to another six months in jail.

Dear Non-Floridians,

Rules when discussing the hurricane with Floridians need to be put in place....

1) Calling people who don't evacuate "idiots" or saying "they deserve what happens to them" is a judgement statement that without facts, you are not qualified to make.

2) Just go get a plane ticket! (You can't just fly out.) Don't make statements or give advice on how we should evacuate. You don't have the slightest knowledge of what we are up against. There are challenges to leaving. Flights out are being changed, cancelled, delayed. Tickets are $2-3,000 higher than they normally are and that's one way.

3) Don't say "Get in your car and drive fast out" A) Gas stations are getting fuel still, but that fuel is gone before the lines are empty.
B. ) There is no driving fast. Cars are moving 5-7 mph on highways trying to get to safety. The lines are long and imagine, with a gas shortage, being stuck on highways in jams for 12-15 hours.
4) Florida has one way out, and that is through the top (Northern) part of the state. There are basically 2 major roads out. Those roads are jammed, backed up, and not expected to change.
5) To post "Florida is about to be wiped off the map" because you are watching the news reports and panicking from 3,000 miles away- is not the most uplifting thing for us to see. Plus, don't speak your devastation to us. Be positive!
6) "If I lived in Florida, I would have evacuated a week ago." Well I'm not so sure that you would have. It's not that simple if you have a heart...not only that, you don't know until the final days which path the storm is going to take. Homes have to be boarded up. Things have to be done to ensure that if you do leave, you have somewhere to return.
7) Stop saying God is angry and that's why Texas went through what Texas went through and that Florida is being hit. God isn't angry. Every person in the path of destruction was created in His image. Every person not in the path of destruction was created in His image. He is not angry. He is not judging us. He is not putting His wrath down. If you believe that, we don't serve the same God.
8.) "Go to a safer part of the state." Yes, we thought of that. No one knows exactly what part that is. If Irma takes a turn it could hit the west coast- if we are all fleeing to the west coast because it says the east coast is the most dangerous, then that could be costly. We know what we need to do and we are monitoring the situation.
Feel Free to pray for us!
Feel Free to check on us, text us, call us. But, don't text your fears of our demise. Don't call us crying because you are scared for us.
We have a storm to conquer and we need to be healthy, mentally and physically.
When your son or daughter or friend gets ready to go play in a competitive sport ... before the game, do you call them and say ....
"you are going to lose"
"don't show up for the game"
"The odds are against you"
I would hope not... well we are preparing to overcome this storm.

Send us some prayers and encouragement! We welcome it! If you are going to do anything less than that, turn your TV or radio off and keep your mouth shut!

God bless all, stay safe, love and help your neighbors.

Lawyer: FBI Deliberately Attempting To Cover Their “Rear End” By Not Releasing Clinton Emails

A lawyer chasing the FBI for information on Hillary Clinton appeared on Tucker Carlson to explain the lie he’s being fed that blocks him from obtaining the information he needs. Ty Clevenger is a lawyer looking for the files the FBI refuses to release that would show that they are preventing any investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails

While speaking to Tucker, Clevenger explained how he’s filed FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests that have been denied and he wonders out loud whether President Barack Obama is still running the show at the FBI.

“…I filed FOIAs to get evidence in support of the grievances, and then I got this letter from the FBI that it’s not a matter of public interest.”

Tucker asked for clarification, whether this meant that “not a matter of public interest” meant that it’s not good for the public to have access to the information, or whether it’s that the public doesn’t care. Clevenger explained that in this case, the FBI are saying that the public doesn’t care.

“In this particular circumstance, there are three reasons not to release it. They can say that the subject, which would be Mrs. Clinton, is either dead, which she’s not, or she’s consented to release which she hasn’t, or that this is a matter of public interest. And the FBI despite the fact that I sent them newspaper articles said it was not a matter of public interest. Having said that, though, I think they are changing course. I got an email this afternoon from the Justice Department, I appealed the denial to DOJ and now DOJ has granted my request to expedite its response and the reason that’s significant is because my grounds for requesting an expedited response was this was a matter of public interest. So, DOJ has already conceded that this is a matter of public interest.”

Parent of Teen Thugs Killed By Homeowner in Armed Burglary Says AR-15 Use Made Fight UNFAIR!

Typically, if someone is hurt or killed after breaking into another person’s house, it’s considered justifiable self-defense. And when one teenager was killed after he broke into someone’s house, he was met with an AR15 — and his family is speaking out.

Jacob Redfearn is one of three Oklahoma teenagers who broke into a Wagoner County home, and all three of the would-be robbers were shot and killed. The other two burglars were 19-year-old Maxwell Cook, and 16-year-old Jacob Woodruff. Left behind was 21-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez, the alleged getaway driver and supposed “mastermind” of the burglary plot, as investigators believe she planned the crime.

Labor Day: big boost delivered

A questionable weather forecast and a rainy Saturday may have scared a few visitors away this past weekend, but most Ocean City businesses saw an increase in numbers as compared to last year and they attribute the uptick to most Maryland public schools beginning classes after Labor Day.

“I do think that the extra week made a difference,” said Jessica Waters, Town of Ocean City communications manager. “Unfortunately, the weather may have impacted that a little this year, but we heard from several families who were coming to Ocean City to celebrate their extra week of summer.”

Susan Jones, executive director for the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association, said most hotels did not sell out and there were a few cancellations because of rain.

“Businesses did better than last year with Sunday and Monday saving the weekend weather-wise,” Jones said. “I think schools starting after Labor Day and the Maryland Week promotion helped us by putting Ocean City on the minds of Marylanders. It reminded people summer is not over. Restaurants and hotels are open and there is still time to get a great deal.”

LEGENDARY COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 9-9-17

Bitters

A term that has slipped into America’s past is “bitters”. Before the Pure and Drug Law of 1906, bitters were sold as a medicinal product. The “snake oil” that was peddled throughout the country was nothing more than bitters. The more legitimate producers of the product had very ornate bottles that are highly collectible today. The only definitive work on the bottles was written in 1965 by Richard Watson. The bottle pictured above is from F. Chevalier & Co. in San Francisco. It states on the bottle that it contained “Celebrated/Crown Bitters”. It is 8 ¾ inches high and 2 ¾ inches square. It is a dark brown amber color and very well-made. I found this in Richard Watson’s book, told him and he found the bottle for me.

The truth about bitters was it was a substitute for whiskey. Being between 30 and 40% alcohol and figuring in the laxative they usually put in it, the warm glow it gave one, many found it to be a convenient way to imbibe and clean out their system at the same time. Since many of the maladies of the day could be fixed with a good “flushing out”, bitters was a good way to do most of what they wanted.

Temperance movements were everywhere in the 19th Century, so bitters was a good and acceptable alternative to saloon whiskey. If a person went into a saloon, he was deemed to be a drunk. The imbibing in bitters was thought to be medicinal and everyone just looked the other way.

Manufacturers began to make the bottles in amber, green, blue and clear with shades of each color. They made them in many ornate designs and thus exacerbated the collection of the bottles themselves,

The Internal Revenue Act of 1862 which heavily taxed alcoholic beverages gave added emphasis to the bitters boom. Something that was considered medicinal did not fall into the same category as whiskey. Can’t you just imagine Uncle Charley having a drink of bitters for what ailed him? With the alcohol content between 30 and 40 %, it was sure to make him feel better temporarily and the laxative contained in the bitters usually gave him a good “flushing out”. Due to the shortage of legitimate doctors, bitters seemed a good way to cure many ills. It was also a good way to obtain a respectable buzz.

It just goes to prove the idea that no matter how many laws they pass, there are people coming up with ideas for how to get past them.

Jared Kushner Helped Top Democratic Senator Lobby WH For DACA Amnesty

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law set up a secret back channel to help a top Democratic Senator lobby White House officials in favor of the “DACA” amnesty for 800,000 young illegals.

Sen. Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democratic Senator, spilled the beans in an interviewwith Reuters, where he described how he worked with Jared Kushner and liberal Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham to promote the DACA amnesty in April and July.

According to Reuters’s account, which describes the illegals as “Dreamers”:

“We initially had a conversation (with Kushner), at [Iowa Republican] Senator (Chuck) Grassley’s invitation, on criminal justice and I asked Mr. Kushner afterwards if we could talk about immigration, separate and apart from Senator Grassley, which we did,” Durbin said.

“I went into … DACA because I was concerned about how this was going to unfold,” the Illinois lawmaker said. The conversations underscore a level of interest in the issue among senior White House aides that could lend momentum to the congressional debate on approving a permanent legislative fix for the Dreamers that Durbin has sought for the past 16 years

Bannon on 60 Minutes: Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell ‘Trying to Nullify 2016 Election’

Former White House Chief Strategist Stephen K. Bannon believes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) are trying to “nullify” the 2016 election because they do not believe in the economic nationalist agenda that got President Donald Trump elected.

In an interview with CBS anchor Charlie Rose that will air on Sunday’s 60 Minutes, Bannon said that is why he is going to “war” with the Republican establishment. He also revealed that McConnell even told Trump’s team to “back off” the “drain the swamp” talk during one of their first meetings.

“The Republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election,” Bannon told Rose, in a clip that the CBS Evening News previewed on Thursday evening. “That’s a brutal fact we have to face.”

Houston Students Are Heading Back—What They Find Could Change Schools Nationwide

"We had a parent go by and check on the chickens. They were fine and Wilson the cat was ok too! I know many people are concerned. What a wonderful community we have."

For the staff of Wilson Montessori, a public pre-K-8 school in Houston, the days after Harvey meant tracking down members of the community via text, collecting donations for those in need — and reassuring students about the fate of the school's pets.

Belva Parrish, the counselor at Wilson and a 25-year veteran of Houston's public schools, says the pet update on the school's Facebook page was one small way schools can help students heal.

"Trauma stems from not having any control of your situation," she says. "Banding together, being a place where students feel safe and they know they have a voice to be heard, will go a long way towards helping them."

Harvey's toll on the nation's seventh-largest public school system, as well as schools around the region, was immense. In the Houston Independent School District alone, most school buildings took on some water, and dozens have major or extensive damage.

Why Do People Stop Taking Their Meds? Cost Is Just One Reason

Almost one-third of people have stopped taking a prescription drug at some time without telling their health care provider, according to the latest NPR-Truven Health Analytics Health Poll.

And while cost certainly influences whether and how people take their drugs, only 10 percent of people in this poll cited it as the reason for their behavior. A separate question asked people who filled a prescription recently whether they missed at least one dose. A full quarter said they had.

The related problems of quitting a drug without consultation with a doctor, missing doses and even not filling the prescription in the first place fall under the umbrella of medication non-adherence. About half of medications for chronic disease aren't taken as directed, according to a review published in 2012 in Annals of Internal Medicine. The problem has been estimated to result in increased hospitalizations, more premature deaths and a tab of between $100 billion and $289 billion a year.

Online Amnesty Program Aims to Boost Tax Rolls

Part of an occasional series of stories on how states are overhauling tax codes to adapt to a new economy.

More than half the states with sales taxes are using a temporary amnesty program to corral scofflaw online businesses into their tax systems, just in time to reap sales taxes from the upcoming holiday shopping season.

In the complicated world of online sales, small businesses often use a “marketplace facilitator,” like Amazon’s Marketplace service, to promote goods and fill orders. But the complexity also means that they often don’t pay their sales taxes, costing the states as much as $2 billion a year through Amazon Marketplace sales alone.

Overall, states estimate they could collect $26 billion more a year in sales taxes on products sold remotely, online and via mail order. Several states, led by South Dakota in 2016, have passed laws requiring sales tax to be paid by all online sellers when they sell to an in-state buyer.

Breaking News: Hundreds of thousands in Florida rushed to shelters or fled north ahead of Hurricane Irma. It's the largest evacuation in state history.

As Hurricane Irma threatened to engulf virtually the entire state of Florida in deadly winds, driving rain and surging seas, the largest evacuation in the state’s history saw hundreds of thousands of people scrambling into crowded county shelters and jamming highways as they fled north from the storm.
With the clock ticking, some counties issued curfews for Saturday, and more shelters were opened to absorb the crush of people seeking cover from one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit Florida.
Brock Long, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, described Hurricane Irma as “a threat that is going to devastate the United States, either Florida or some of the southeastern states.”

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher: Russian Collusion Lie "One of the Great Political Crimes" in History

Media’s narrative begins to collapse

California Congressman Dana Rohrabacher says the Trump-Russia collusion “con job” is one of the biggest political crimes inflicted on the American people in history.

Rohrabacher blamed the politicization of the intelligence agencies for the witch hunt that has dogged President Trump since he won the election.

“Once we know the Russians weren’t involved, then we have to understand that this massive propaganda campaign, this historic con-job that happened after the election to prevent our president from exercising the powers granted to him by the voters, this is one of the great political crimes committed against the American people in our history,” Rohrabacher told Hannity.
