Taxation Without Representation

By Thornton Crowe

Tax Revenue Cap... Remember this initiative voted in 1999 by a group who got sick of the County taxing everyone to death?

We the People voted for a revenue cap that year by 60%! However, in spite of the local economy being in the dumpster still due to lack of area jobs, some want to raise your taxes after you just received a tax cut from the County!

Chances are, if he's involved, there has to be a scam hidden in there somewhere: Just when all the lunatics were called, another enters the fray...

Mike Dunn, president of the Greater Salisbury Committee wants to raise your taxes under the guise that it's "the law of the land?" What a pile of rubbish, indeed! The subtext of that text is he's looking to cash in on your reduced taxes by imposing a tax hike!

In another agenda-pushing piece by our local so-called watchdog reporter, Liz Holland, Dunn pontificates his absurdity, citing millennials as his target audience to pitch a big hooray for more taxation. What Dunn fails to embrace is his demographic has largely relocated out of the area because there are no jobs here for them to afford to stay! Why? Past taxes, of course!

Should this tax cap be overturned it will further discourage businesses from coming to the area, because who needs an "indian-giver government" when there are other areas, even in Maryland, who are more business-friendly? It would be another economy killer for Wicomico, which means more jobs will inevitably leave the area.

New lipstick is being applied to an old pig voted out in 1999...

Unelected pseudo-leaders like Dunn and his political lynch mob don't care if you voted for them. They seek to control your money through governmental redistributing your tax dollars via legislature bullying. Hence, they don't have to woo you for votes because they think their word is 'the word' in our local government as they attempt to push our elected official around.

In real world speak, this means Dunn is trying to usurp you, the voter, by going around what you voted for and cunningly attempt to hoodwink you through fancy feel-good warm fuzzy terminology based on factless idiom - aka nothingness.

Income redistribution - the ultimate Ponzi Scheme...

Dunn's proposal is nothing short of income redistribution, but he's banking on you remaining ignorant to this inconvenient fact. He purposefully misleads in the abovementioned article by claiming it's the law of the land; however, it is not the law of the land - it never has been and never will be. If anything, taxes have been a sore spot for America since its beginnings - and one of the reasons we split from Britain rule.

In modern times, taxation is nothing more than folks like Dunn treading off the backs of hardworking Wicomico residents so he'll have something better to do than watch Judge Judy and Oprah reruns all day long while you work the real jobs to support him. It's a power grab and the reason for pushing moronic mantras on unsuspecting folks like: "Taxation is good; fiscal responsible government is bad." This type of insane puppeteering only poisons our community, not encourages prosperity and growth.

Conservative Standing Ground...

County Council President John Cannon retorts to Dunn that it's unlikely residents will want to dial back to the pre-1999, tax-happy days. One would think this was a given considering Trump's key agendas is tax reform - reducing taxes for all Americans - won bigly here in Wicomico!

In truth, should Dunn get his way, the County will fall into a deeper economic abyss than we've experienced in recent years. Is this what you really want? Don't fall for happy faces and warm fuzzies because at the end of day, they won't put food on your table or a roof over your head!

  1. Every time this issue is brought up, there is one commenter who is always pro tax hike. At least now he has been outed and we can put a name to the anonymous comments!

  2. This guy is an absolute but job, somehow, someway, he's going to find a way to draw attention to himself and think he has some sort of relevance or positive input. He's been doing this same old dance for 30 years and still can't be taken seriously. Let's see first there was Dunn, the Ireton, now Day. Come on people is this really in the best interest for the Salisbury/wicomico county area as a whole

  4. He is a near perfect inverse weathervane; whatever direction he's pointing is 180 degrees from the intelligent and proper path.

His actions with the gavel on city council remain the low water mark of that legislative body. He is a stain.

  5. Anyone that doesn't understand how the taxes and regulations are killing our economy....take a drive in the Sussex County area and see all the new construction. People are moving there like flies! Good quality construction of all kinds. The new homes/increased population offer new business opportunity's, service providers, and the dominos just keeps fall. They're killing us!

  6. Dunn is the lunatic fringe people would be better off ignoring. If anyone thought he was worth listening to, he would be mayor or something. He's a silly man child who doesn't have any real experience even after being president of the city council. He's politically illiterate. Next..............................................

  7. Voters should stop living in these delusions created by politicians and unelected a-holes who think they're some kind of dynasty. Dunn is an idiot. Day is one, too. Any questions?

  8. 9:20, You are absolutely correct. I own a home in Sussex County, 7.5 acres, custom built home and my taxes are, (and have been for years) $1,200.00 a year.

I also own waterfront property, (almost 2 acres) in Worcester County and again my taxes are around $1,200.00 a year.

You are seeing development, (both residential and commercial) in both counties and there's a damn good reason why.

I should also add that it's not just Sussex County where you are seeing massive growth. If you travel all the way up to Wilmington you'll see all kinds of new construction the entire way.

Executive Culver is not a stupid man. He know what's happening elsewhere and is doing everything in his power to at least attempt to become competitive but Idiots like Dunn and other well known local Liberals want to continue to drive property values DOWN so the Good Ol' Boys can scarf up the depressed properties, (Salisbury being an 80% rental market already) and control the entire Shore.

That being said, just how many times have we heard some LLC bought up property just months before GOVERNMENT bought it! Can you say Station 16. Can you say PARKING LOTS. Can you say the old Fore Station 16. Shall I go on?

If it wasn't for Salisbury News, NONE of you would know just how bad these people are SCREWING you.

  9. Thought the Greater Salisbury Committee was supposed to be courting employers to come to Salisbury not damning them from coming here. What the hell are you doing, Mike?

  10. What happened to the good ole' days when people like Mike Dunn were run out of town?

  11. 9:32, You too are exactly right. Their original vision under Jan Weisman was in fact to MENTOR businesses. Now they are all about politics and that is exactly why they went so far as to hire Dunn to lead their new Liberal agenda. I can tell you it was Matt Tilghman, (for mayor Barrie Tilghman's husband) who spearheaded this new platform.

The ONLY people involved with the Greater Salisbury Committee are the wealthiest people in the County. I wouldn't trust that organization as far as I could throw them.

Unfortunately Jan is rolling over in his grave.

  12. Vernon Powell Building sold downtown. What will this become ?

  13. 9:47, I hadn't heard that but if true that is fantastic news. I'd like to lease one floor of that building if they put an elevator in it.

  14. Just read on Fox News website that DE ranks as the 7th most likely state where people retire/move. MD isn't in the top 40.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 953 and that's relevant to this article, how?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Duh let's see @10:04 relevant maybe because mike Dunn wants tax increase. The actual economic boom in Sussex county due to people actually wanting to move there because of delaware's tax laws. Umm then then the people that are buying up all the new housing in all probability will spend money to stimulate the local economy, some possibly might start businesses there, actually enabling them to avoid dumbasses luke mike dunn and his proposal. Maybe you should have another cup of Joe and regroup before your next comment

  17. Everyone on thus blog is always "taxed to death." Man you all are crybabies, worse than snowflakes. You just posted about what is taking rt 50 so long to be finished. You gripe about schools. You cry about everything.

    Instead, propose mindful solutions.

    1. No what we're really upset about is the mindless numbnuts that are actually in position to make positive change tell us everything we want to hear, then the time comes we get the old knife in the back again. Those leaders already know what is needed but the ones that actually pull the strings behind closed doors aren't going to allow change. Too much money to be lost if change actually took place in slumsbury

  18. I live in a basic three bedroom rancher I purchased in 1990. My yearly taxes were only 540 per year at that time. I have 1.7 acres of land. Since 1990 my taxes have gone from 540 to over 1400 per year. I have a bill for this in my desk that is unpaid until I can come up with at least half to pay for this. I live out in the country. Receive no services and haul my trash to the dump which also requires a yearly fee on top of the taxes I pay. I applied for a homestead tax credit to try and help keep these taxes down. It's no use, they still keep creeping up year after year. I think the Board of Education is mostly responsible for these increases. Most of the budget and out of control spending. I've updated my home to be sold when I retire. I don't plan to stay here when that happens. Taxes and fees in this state and county are way too high. Most of my friends and family have move south. We are looking at either North Carolina or Florida on the pan handle.

    1. 1037, inflation my friend. 540 in 1990 dollars = 1033 and change today. But don't let facts stop a good narrative...

  19. 10:30, Obviously your "solution" is raising taxes because they aren't high enough. I mean, that is your SOLUTION, right?

  20. Dunn is like his dad , greedy , Cannon is also full of greed .

  21. How in gods name can you make any sensible input in economic growth in Salisbury when the mayor and council's main agenda is to keep building section 8 housing. What type of business will that attract to the area? If you have an area that is 80% rentals and an AVERAGE income of only 38,000(so mayor Jake day says) what the hell looks so enticing about that? The only type of business that will thrive in that scenario is government assisted housing

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1030 here's a solution that's quick and painless: Quit voting and listening to Democrats!

The second is DEMAND the City and County live within their means, their REAL means not some ginned up stupidity like the fake numbers Jake toots to everyone stupid enough to listen.

Third, be more informed voters and look at people's records. If they have none, insist for both City and County charters to incorporate ways to out officials if they don't do their jobs. What you have now is people have security for four years.

Fourth, talk to your representatives often and with respect! If you keep corresponding or talking to them at appearances, you stand a better chance of them listening. Personal insults, petulance and derogatory statements like the ones found on other local so-called media outlets is not the way to win friends and influence people. You get a lot further with honey than vinegar.

Fifth, stay engaged! You know how to read so keep reading, daily! If you don't understand something or disagree, respectfully ask!

Sixth, you're right the complaining is ridiculous but as seen in fourth and fifth here, there are ways to respectfully let your voice be heard in a non-accusatory way instead of name-calling and attempts to smear a person's rep just because they don't work fast enough for your pace.

Seventh, do your civic duty and when possible, run for elected office yourself. You'd be surprised by the wealth of knowledge you never thought existed if you actually saw all that goes on and you never hear about. Waiting for people to get back on things, waiting for other departments to do what is in the process chain, etc. If you knew what officials have to go through to get anything done with all the red tape, you'd understand why things don't just happen immediately. Walk a mile in their shoes and you'll develop a better understanding on the whys.

I'm sure I'll think of more but 1030 this should get you started on the road to better government interaction.

    Have a nice day!

  23. Hate to tell those of you that live in fantasyland but Salisbury's biggest economic stimulus is affordable housing and what goes with it the legal cash cow that wicomico county revolves around. I would love to see a figure on what the area brings in from legal fees, fines, local "so called" treatment centers. The whole area is nothing but government ripoff economy

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1124 you're ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 11:24, most of the county budget goes to the BOE. All taxation without representation! We voted for an elected school board concerning this. I have yet to see this happen. 10:37 must be a school board member! Yes, damn right I blame you for some of this! Your spending is out of control!

    ReplyDelete
  26. To think the WCBOE gets most of the budget to house future incarnated inmates is just ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sounds like the majority of Salisbury/wicomico county both their leaders and citizens TRULY bought into the whole Obama propaganda of government owes all something and now won't relinquish entitlement mentality and actually try and fix what's wrong with your city. Salisbury like this country was built on hard work and initiative by local businesses that actually took pride in their city and put resources into their local economy not the current trend of continually take take take.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mike Dunn ol you of all people should be able to relate to @11:49 comments. There are a lot of those old school business owners you knew very well and befriended you now would have some very choice words for you

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mike Dunn must be out trolling for a new crop of swingers by addressing a new taxation agenda. Go away already Dunn your participation in local politics has played itself out.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dunn only got into politics because he's not qualified to do anything else. He's been a failure his whole adult life in anything that actually amounts to much. It's not too much of a stretch that many local politicians are prone to lean towards government for lack of anything else better to do. He's very much like Jake Day because they both squirrel around town talking their demspeak without a care in the world whether or not it makes any sense at all. Sad bunch of rats we have in this town.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pretty much nailed it down there @3:22, he's had pretty much every type of job Salisbury has to offer that requires feeding a line of bulls***.

  33. One thing that bothers the heck out of me. No one, including most of you opining on here mention "cut backs". No one in our local government ever mentions budget cuts. We keep adding advisers, managers, department heads to a county and city that's growth is almost none existent. Lets start by instituting the penny plan. CUT 1% across the board on all county and city employees. Including the mayor. That will start the ball rolling in the right direction. You don't need more income. You just need to know how to use what you have more wisely.

  35. Has he ever had a real job? Has ever broken a sweat? How is his business doing? Look around. Get out and shop the mall . Shop Walmart. You will see what Salisbury has become and you want to raise taxes. No wonder everyone is moving to Delaware. Do you live Salisbury?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Does he own a home? Does he have bills? Why don't you use that charming personality and bring some jobs to wicomico county instead of chasing people away?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Fortunately, with the current members of the Wicomico County Council, this is a non-starter.

  38. Just what jobs has Mike Dunn held in the private sector? Did he once (maybe still does) have a position at the publicly funded 'radio station' @ SU? Not sure I would call that a 'job'...more a position where he could access the internet and post anon on blog sites?

And, I'm just interested 8:01 PM, what is his business that you refer to. Like to know so that I don't accidently patronize it!

  39. He's never owned a business. He's held a few sales Representative positions several years ago but supposedly severely effected by chronic fatigue syndrome, what ever happened to that?? Seems to be doing fine now he's in a position to try and and draw attention to himself, and there's the SU radio thing whatever that consisted of. You got a real gem there Salisbury/wicomico county. He's simply hired because he can spread a bunch of bulls*** around. He was smart enough though to find a younger woman who's family has money and convinced her to marry him

By some of the documented social media posts you seem to be miraculously healed and doing quite well at all the events hosted at SU and when old curley hogan comes around. Its hilarious watching you and Day compete to see who can get their head the furthest up his butt!! The both of you lack any type of integrity, character, merit, true leadership qualities. Your merely two windbags that learned what asses to kiss

  42. I really wish Mike Dunn would take he and the horse that he rode into town own - and move the heck out of here. Remember his great TIFF idea - (taxpayer incremental financing) plan for the old Salisbury Mall property.

Quote: "We're this close - owe so close - into getting this project through. "

What happened to it? It's just like everything else he tries to impose on our citizenry - it runs counter-productive to our citizens grain. I would go so far to say that Mike Dunn is a RADICAL - that's right with a capital R.

  43. Man I have to give it to you Dunn and all the Dunn subculture follower's here in DA slumsbury quite a bit of self control not responding, must be kind if hard to have a comeback though when the information presented is spot on.
