Blessing of the Combines an annual favorite set Aug. 5

SNOW HILL – The 19th Annual Blessing of the Combines – an event which honors and thanks the agricultural community – kicks off on Saturday, August 5th between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm in downtown Snow Hill, Md.

A Parade of Combines (including an antique fire truck, tractors, lawn mowers and floats) crosses the Pocomoke River Bridge and maneuvers to stop on Green Street, followed by a loud “throttle thrust” as the engines are cut. Opening Ceremonies take place at the Performance Stage, which hosts The Route 50 Band and The Spence Baptist Praise Band.

Vendors and restaurants offer great local and festival foods. A stroll along Vendors and Crafters Row leads to the Pocomoke River – and an Antique Car Show. Exhibits line Green Street – and activities for children: Farm Animals, The Barnyard (tractor, clown, corn pit, maze, games), Hay Wagon and Pony Rides. Festival T-Shirts provide memories.

  1. Silliest mess I've ever heard of.....blessing combines, boats, motorcycles...all inanimate objects....you think they know someone prayed for them?????

  2. Sorry, 7:00, but there's nothing else to do in Snow Hill. Do you have a better idea?

  3. 7:00- The town of Snow Hill does not bless boats, motorcycles, and all inanimate objects. Just stay behind your computer and keyboard, but keep your negativity out of positive community events, we don't want your kind of crazy anyhow. You are a sad little man. This is asking God for a good harvest, a community event, and a draw for tourism to Snow Hill. Praying to the lord for a good harvest has existed much longer than your idiotic existence. You might not agree with the reason for a community to come together in the name of peace, community pride, and a little bit of religious beliefs, but you really should shut your ignorant pie hole. God bless, and peace be with you.

  4. 7:00 I have been and taken grandchildren in years past. Its not a bad family-oriented festival. Especially for a small town like Snow Hill. Lighten up a little bit.....doesn't cost you or the taxpayers anything and if you have problem with the Lord, take it up with Him and not the rest of us.

  6. So it is a source of income for the community....you view God as a way to have additional income? Yet I'm the one with a problem....better open your Bibles to Luke 19:45,46! God wants us to worship him with faith and deeds...so we show him our love by our works in his behalf not what we can get from him! Better move on 8:04 you sound like a hypocrite.....just my opinion.

    1. 1:45-Explain my hypocracy. You are an angry little person. That was my message.

    2. 1:45. I don't see support for your hateful sentiment. You are the one with the problem, that much is clear. Maybe you should better move on!

  7. No one let 7:00 buy or consume any food grown from the earth since he doesn't care about the harvest and can't comprehend this is a tradition. Yes people in the good old days did pray for a good harvest due to the fact if you lost the crops you starved instead of going to the grocery store or ordering a pizza. 7:00 go eat McDonald's and hide from society. Please.

  9. It is a nice, small town festival with a positive objective. The first commenter obviously got out of the wrong side of the bed, and should clamber back in.

I'll enjoy this year's event, as I have previous ones.

  10. No one angry here except you folks who can't make me go away...Ha Ha Ha The fact is you try to commercialize a relationship with God, in my opinion that's wrong....opinion are like belly buttons everybody has one....your are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine...just live with it and move on!

  11. 12:19- There is no commercialization of a relationship with God that anyone is insisting upon, except you. Just you. It is clear you're just trolling.

"No one angry here except you folks who can't make me go away...Ha Ha Ha"

WTF? There is no use in arguing with crazy, so I'm not gonna. Someone else here might. I understand, the little guy just wants to have the last word, so go for it! Also, get a hobby, or a job, or something. Sad.

  12. I thought it was a backward, redneck event until I saw the turnout. It draws people from all over the Eastern Shore, and the western shore. I work in Caroline county, and people talk about the event up here and look forward to it each year. Well done Snow Hill! I would have never thought it would be a popular event beyond the locals. Kids love it. The combines are huge, expensive pieces of farm equipment that are on display for all to see and enjoy. I have to admit that they make me want to climb up on them and explore (and I'm an old man!). There's a variety of food available, and farm animals are on display for the kids to interact with. They even have live music. What's not to like?

For the naysayers, you can't argue with success. Way to go Snow Hill!

  13. 3:01- Thanks for the positive comments from another person who has actually been there. I am local and this is really a unique and cool dig. 7:00 clearly is lost somehow, but let not the rest of us realize that this has all the appeal of historical past time and tradition, mixed with community and local pride. There is nothing wrong with supporting that! If you think so, I don't think that can be helped!
