Girl, 5, suspended for playing with 'stick gun' during playground game

A North Carolina mother says her 5-year-old daughter was suspended from school after she was found playing with a stick that resembled a gun.

Brandy Miller said her daughter Caitlin was suspended for one day on Friday after she and her two friends were playing "King and Queen" at her school in Hoke County, North Carolina, ABC affiliate WTVD reported Tuesday.

In the game, Caitlin played a guard, protecting the royals, and picked up the "stick gun" to imitate shooting an intruder into the kingdom.

  3. The school has done more to confuse this child and stigmatize her among her classmates and community than they have anything else.

  5. 7:50 what's confusing about not encouraging gun violence? I understand that it's just a stick--I did the same when I was a kid--but the school has a responsibility to address these kinds of issues. Some kids aren't taught that guns are tools and should be respected. Which is why we have so many gun accidents every year.

    1. She only got suspended because she was white. You know it. If any other color she would have gotten a hug and her lunch paid for by the staff.

    Not encouraging violence?
    Ever watch a cartoon?
"School have a responsibility to address these issues"?
    What issues?
You mean the school has a NEED to control what you think and indoctrinate you properly.
Using your imagination is wrong and needs to be controlled!

  7. She gets in trouble, but little thugs can rape classmates and disrupt an entire school with no recourse. That only makes sense in America.

  8. 8:02 You must be a crazy liberal snow flake. The kid is 5 years old. She was only playing with a stick. Get real folks. This is ridiculous for a kid that young to be suspended for playing with a stick. Heck when we were kids we played cop and robbers, cowboys and indians and used our fingers, sticks or toy guns. And we all turned out just fine. With all this B.S. in schools today we are getting more and more gun violence because of stupid stuff like this. When we went to school there was never ever a school shooting. You libs and snow flakes really take the cake.

  10. The school should be sued and pay heavily for allowing gun shaped sticks on the playground. They have a responsibility to protect our children from unapproved thinking!
And let's make sure that there are no wand shaped sticks on school property so that those kids can't pretend to be casting spells on one another.

  12. I have pictures of myself as a child wearing chrome (plastic) six shooters with the whole outfit from boots, chaps, and stetson that Roy Rogers would envy (blue collar family). You telling me that kids don't play cowboy and Indians today. I bet I "shot" and "killed" every friend in the neighborhood and they me as well. Guess what, being a senior as they call it, I don't recall shooting and killing anyone while going through my adult years. Sad times in the country. Children don't get exercise now, while playing by themselves on some darn electronic device. Therefore fattening up with health conditions and want the taxpayer to care for them. Again, sad times, glad I was a child of the sixties.

  13. She would be fine though being shocked by seeing a boy pee in the girls bathroom, or a man dressed as a woman pooping in Targets ladies room. America is sick!

  15. She was protecting the King and Queen from an intruder. Good for her!

What the school did was to step in and teach her that they are here to protect the intruders and allow them to take over the kingdom.

That's why the kids now control the classrooms, not the teacher!

Lesson learned all too well these days.

  17. I watched all the violent/race bashing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Tom/Jerry cartoons as a youngin as well as playing cowboys/Indians; cops/robbers too.

Not to mention received NO/ZERO/ZILCH/NADA participation trophies in athletics either!

Made it through grade school and college without any problems! Continue to live the dream here on the shore - fishing as much as possible regardless of the weather!!!!

  18. I really don't understand liberals. You tell our kids not to point gun shaped sticks at other kids, but ultra-liberal Hollywood continues to make violent shows and movies. They tell us not to use the word "nigger" but we constantly hear it in rap music.
If you're going to know what's in a bill, you have to pass it first???
I guess I'm really confused. If you're trying to make a point, make it. Don't confuse us.

  21. Are you frikin kiddin? We use to play cowboys and Indians on the school playground. Only one murderer and a couple police officers came off that playground!
