Officials vote to ban tents, canopies from Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - Visitors will soon no longer be allowed to bring tents and canopies to Rehoboth Beach.

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance Friday banning those temporary structures from the beach, starting May 15. It also bans campfires and grills.

City officials say umbrellas no larger than 8 feet in diameter and no greater than 7-feet, 6-inches in height, are still allowed as well as baby tents designed to shade infants and small children.

  2. Right up until some idiots massive umbrella sweeps down the beach and hits a kid in the face because they can't secure it properly. It's always the stupid people that ruin the fun

  4. They must not want people to enjoy themselves at their beaches. I guess I'll have to get 3 more umbrellas for the 4 of us. Next, there will be a limit to how many umbrellas we can have.

  5. The problem they were having was the people from the "sanctuary counties" were coming here and using these tents to sleep/change and do other things. Who wants to go to the beach and have someone grilling right next to you? People abusing the system are the reason why they have to do this stupid stuff.

  8. 2:28 although i agree. Its just like the smoking ban. No outdoor health risk, but was considered a littering problem. So instead of enforcing littering laws. They opt for outright bans. So they can take their family resorts and stick them were the sun never shines. Since you will have plenty of companies up there with all the libtards and Nanny state lovers. Who create these situations. Then ruin it for everyone. I for one will NEVER spend any money on any MD or DELAWARE beach ever!!

  10. Those of us who are just normal Americans really don't have a good beach to go to anymore, with the gay takeover of Rehoboth Beach and the Thug takeover of Ocean City. If this can reduce the amount of gay kissing and touching that goes on at Rehoboth, I will support this Law completely and take my money to Delaware instead of Ocean City.

  11. Can smoke, grill and have all the tents/Canopies you want on the bayside!!!! We've been doing it for over 20 years, bunch of us, several boats and find very nice day places north of the 90 bridge.

We've done the south side of 50, across at Assateague - way to crowded, too many full of spirits to drive and grilling is a no no by the local LEO's on the water. Mad dash outta there around dinner time is crazy too.

  12. People were setting up the tents and sleeping in them all day and creating havoc at night. All while not paying for a room.
