A 14 year old girl was allegedly raped at Rockville High School by Henry Sanchez, 18, and Jose Montano, 17. It has been reported by some outlets that neither of the alleged rapists are in the United States legally, and both attended the school. Montgomery County, where the school is located, is very pro-illegal immigration.
Half of the local media groups report the immigration status of the two alleged rapists at least in a vague manner. Some reports mention that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is involved in some capacity. Only Fox 5 and ABC 7/Fox 45 gave lengthy, detailed breakdowns of information known regarding the alleged rapists’ immigration status.
Neither the Baltimore Sun nor the Washington Times has a story on this incident. Many failed to update their stories after the question of immigration status was made apparent in court.
