Governor Larry Hogan Announces $23.25 Million in Grants to Reduce Nonpoint Source Water Pollution

Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund Sponsors 21 Projects

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the Department of Natural Resources has awarded grant funding, totaling $23.25 million, to reduce nonpoint source pollution through the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund. The Trust Fund directs funding to the most cost-effective and efficient projects in the state, with the goal of gaining the greatest reduction of pollution for the investment being made.

“The Chesapeake Bay is our greatest and most important natural asset, and a national treasure that needs our continued attention and focus,” said Governor Hogan. “That is why we honored our commitment to bay restoration by fully funding the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund for the first time in state history. Trust Fund projects enhance our local streams and rivers, and bring us a step closer to a healthier and more productive Chesapeake Bay, for this and future generations.”

Projects from Anne Arundel to Wicomico County will receive funding for projects such as stream and wetland restoration, innovative stormwater management, enhancing the urban tree canopy and more. In all, the state received nearly $72 million in requests for the $23.25 million available in Fiscal Year 2017.

“The Trust Fund is one of the most innovative pollution reduction programs in the nation,” Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. “It engages local communities and leverages third-party organizations and partners into real, practical projects and solutions. Through this program, the state is effectively lowering the costs to reduce pollution in our waterways, a victory for the environment, taxpayers and the watershed.”

The Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund is guided by the Chesapeake Bay Cabinet and administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Since its creation in 2007, the Trust Fund has supported more than 2,000 projects, including the planting of 1,081 acres of riparian forest, as well as the restoration of 601 acres of wetlands, creating and supporting about 2,000 jobs.

NY Filing Shows Clinton Foundation's Millions In Foreign Donations

Clinton Foundation officials used an obscure New York state charity board filing to disclose that the non-profit received nearly $17.7 million in donations from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned. The specific foreign governments were not identified in the document, entitled “Exhibit A.”

The latest filing was submitted last January before the public charity division operated by New York Attorney General Eric Schneidermann, a Democrat. The money was given between 2010 and 2013, the exact years when Clinton was America’s chief diplomat.

The enemy is radical Islam, not the National Rifle Association

Over the past eight years - the Obama administration has never let a crisis go to waste. The Orlando terrorist attack was no different.

President Obama co-opted an Islamic radical terrorist attack and turned it into a campaign to ban “assault rifles” (their words, not mine).

“We have to make it harder for people who want to kill Americans to get their hands on weapons of war that let them kill dozens of innocents,” the president declared.

So does he plan on confiscating our pressure cookers? What about fertilizer or cutlery or jetliners? Would that make us safer?

“Enough talking about being tough on terrorism,” the president said in a lecture to the nation on Tuesday. “Actually be tough on terrorism, and stop making it easy as possible for terrorists to buy assault weapons.”

Report: New evidence of rising 'Obamacare' premiums

WASHINGTON (AP) — Premiums for popular low-cost medical plans under the federal health care law are expected to go up an average of 11 percent next year, said a study that reinforced reports of sharp increases around the country in election season.

For consumers, the impact will depend on whether they get government subsidies for their premiums, as well as on their own willingness to switch plans to keep the increases more manageable, said the analysis released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation.

The full picture on 2017 premiums will emerge later this summer as the presidential election heads into the home stretch. The health law's next sign-up season starts a week before Election Day. Democrat Hillary Clinton wants to build on President Barack Obama's health overhaul, which has reduced the uninsured rate to a historically low 9 percent. Republican Donald Trump wants to repeal it.

The Kaiser study looked at 14 metro areas for which complete data on insurer premium requests is already available. It found that premiums for a level of insurance called the "lowest-cost silver plan" will go up in 12 of the areas, while decreasing in two. The changes range from a decrease of 14 percent in Providence, Rhode Island, to an increase of 26 percent in Portland, Oregon

Gas Leak In Salisbury

There is another Gas leak In Salisbury behind the Maryland State Police Barracks.

There seems to be a lot of gas leaks lately.  There was one on Camden Ave not long ago.  One at Roadie Joe's earlier this week and last weekend Target and the stores beside it were evacuated for a gas leak.

During the Next Crisis, Entire Countries Will Go Bust

For seven years, the world has operated under a complete delusion that Central Banks somehow fixed the 2008 Crisis.

All of the arguments claiming this defied common sense. A 5th grader would tell you that you cannot solve a debt problem by issuing more debt. Similarly, anyone with a functioning brain could tell you that a bunch of academics with no real-world experience, none of whom have ever started a business or created a single job can’t “save” the economy.

However, there is an AWFUL lot of money at stake in believing these lies. So the media and the banks and the politicians were happy to promote them. Indeed, one could very easily argue that nearly all of the wealth and power held by those at the top of the economy stem from this fiction.

So it’s little surprise that no one would admit the facts: that the Fed and other Central Banks not only don’t have a clue how to fix the problem, but that they actually have almost no incentive to do so.

So here are the facts:

1) The REAL problem for the financial system is the bond bubble. In 2008 when the crisis hit it was $80 trillion. It has since grown to over $100 trillion.

2) The derivatives market that uses this bond bubble as collateral is over $555 trillion in size.

Obama’s Tantrum a Striking Display of Failed Leadership

If it is true that the best defense is a good offense, President Obama should be celebrating in the end zone now. Obviously furious over criticism that his anti-terror policies are weak and that the Orlando slaughter proves it, he went on a televised tirade to let America know he’s mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

He laid waste to a field of straw men, cable-TV pundits and the always-evil “partisan rhetoric,” by which he means anyone who disagrees with him. It was a striking display of personal anger and pent-up grievances — and a total failure of leadership during a national crisis.

It also, inadvertently, captured why Donald Trump was able to brawl his way to the GOP nomination. All his nice Republican rivals couldn’t stir voters because they never knew how to rattle Obama the way Trump is doing. The president didn’t mention Trump yesterday, but the whole speech was nothing but a desperate and incoherent reaction to Trump-ism.

As such, it was a huge moment in the general-election campaign, even though it comes before the nominees are formally crowned. For one thing, it showed that Obama’s plan to campaign against Trump as if he is running for his own third term won’t be a cakewalk for the president or his legacy.

For another, the Obama-Trump war means Hillary Clinton could be overshadowed in what was supposed to be her campaign for vindication. Throw in her husband and the stage is going to get crowded with alpha males competing for attention.

Obama’s demeanor and tone were far from presidential — tantrums rarely are. Nor was he effective in rallying the nation to his cause. No surprise there. His cause is himself, always and only, and his greatly diminished historic presidency looks especially insignificant next to the bloodshed in Orlando. The iconic redeemer who promised hope and change never seemed so small and hopeless.

America saw Barack Obama at low tide yesterday, revealed as brimming with fury and bankrupt of ideas and even sympathy for the dead. The man who had an answer for everything and a solution to nothing is now also out of excuses.

Give up your guns? Drudge takes on DHS: 'You go first!'

Just months after Department of Homeland Security advisers claimed “the threat from right-wing extremists domestically is just as real as the threat from Islamic extremism,” DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson is now suggesting his department should be in charge of implementing gun control.

But media pioneer Matt Drudge reacted to Johnson’s comments with his own demand.

He insisted the DHS secretary give up his own guns first.

“Homeland Jeh says Give up Your Guns!” Drudge tweeted Wednesday. “You go first, Brah.”

Hillary Clinton Received Secret Memo Stating Obama Admin ‘Support’ for ISIS

Hillary Clinton received a classified intelligence report stating that the Obama administration was actively supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq, the terrorist group that became the Islamic State.

The memo made clear that Al Qaeda in Iraq was speaking through Muhammad Al Adnani, who is now the senior spokesman for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS. Western and Gulf states were supporting the terrorist group to try to overthrow Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad, who was being propped up by the Russians, Iranians, and Chinese.

In August 2012, a “SECRET” classified memo was sent to various top Obama administration officials and agencies, including to the State Department and to Clinton’s office personally.

“The document is an IAR, an intelligence information report,” said Christopher J. Farrell, who serves on the board of directors of Judicial Watch, which obtained the document. “It is produced by somebody within the Defense intelligence agency (DIA). It is reporting from the field by an intelligence agent” who could be a U.S. government agent, a defense attaché, or a source.

“It’s a report from the field back to headquarters with some intelligence that somebody is willing to bet their career on,” Farrell said.

Farrell confirmed that the report was sent to Clinton’s office, based on the recipient marking “RUEHC/SECSTATE WASHINGTON DC.”

The report identifies Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) as being one of the principal elements of the Syrian opposition, which the West was choosing to “support.”

JUST IN: Good News For Our Troops!

Speaker Paul Ryan

BREAKING NEWS ⇒ The House just passed a bill to give our troops a much-deserved pay raise.

Senate Votes to Require Women to Register for the Draft After January 1, 2018

The Senate has approved a defense budget that would also require women to register for the draft. The new rules would apply to any woman who turns 18 on or after January 1, 2018. The key opponents to drafting women were conservative Republicans, including your old friend, botched Madam Tussauds exhibit Ted Cruz.

This one has been brewing for a while: back in April, the House Armed Services Committee voted to approve a version of the National Defense Authorization Act, the mammoth yearly military budget, that included women in the draft. (The full NDAA appropriates $602 billion to the armed services, because the United States spends more on our military budget than any other country on earth and the next seven countries combined.)

But the conservative Republican Congressman who introduced the “draft women” provision doesn’t actually support it; Rep. Duncan Hunter of California intended it as “gotcha amendment,” because he didn’t think liberals would vote to draft women. He was trying to make some sort of curious point about how Democrats don’t really support integrating women into the military, specifically into combat roles. Hunter then proceeded to vote against his own amendment. It was all very odd.

Killing Gays is a Belief Held by ‘Moderate Muslims’

In light of the massacre of dozens of people at a gay club in Orlando, it’s worth re-visiting the comments of Islamic speaker Fahad Qureshi, who admitted that the desire to see homosexuals killed was a belief held by so-called “moderate” Muslims.

During a conference held in May 2013, Qureshi complained that the media often frames views such as “the death penalty for homosexuals” or the subjugation of women as only being held by radical Muslims.

“I always try to tell them that….these are general views that every Muslim actually has….every Muslim believes in these things,” says Qureshi.

Qureshi then asks the audience of Muslim attendees – black, white and Arab – to raise their hands if they agree with gender segregation and stoning women for adultery, as taught by the Koran.

Virtually every single ‘moderate’ Muslim in the room raises their hand to agree with these positions.

Qureshi then asks the audience if they go to “normal Sunni mosques in Norway.” Virtually everyone raises their hand in agreement once again.

“What are the politicians going to say now? What is the media going to say now? That we are all extremists? That we are all radicals? That we need to deport all of us from this country?” states Qureshi.

This Looks Like the DNC's Hacked Trump Oppo File

A 200+ page document that appears to be a Democratic anti-Trump playbook compiled by the Democratic National Committee has leaked online following this week’s report that the DNC was breached by Russian hackers. In it, Trump is pilloried as a “bad businessman” and “misogynist in chief.”

The document—which according to embedded metadata was created by a Democratic strategist named Warren Flood—was created on December 19th, 2015, and forwarded to us by an individual calling himself “Guccifer 2.0,” a reference to the notorious, now-imprisoned Romanian hacker who hacked various American political figures in 2013.

The package forwarded to us also contained a variety of donor registries and other strategy files, “just a few docs from many thousands I extracted when hacking into DNC’s network,” the purported hacker claimed over email, adding that he’s in possession of “about 100 Gb of data including financial reports, donors’ lists, election programs, action plans against Republicans, personal mails, etc.”

Cryptic NY Filing Revealed Clinton Foundation Foreign Donations

Clinton Foundation officials used an obscure New York state charity board filing to disclose that the non-profit received nearly $18 million in donations from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

The January filings also were unusual in that the latest submission now constituted a third “official” revised version of the Clinton Foundation’s financial statements for the foundation’s activities while Clinton was in public office.

Last November, amid much fanfare, foundation officials issued a second revision of the foundation’s federal tax filings for the four years.

But a new line was added in the January submission that stated: “All other government grants came from foreign governments.” The total figure for each of the four years equalled $17.7 million.

The foreign government donations are still not listed on the foundation’s web site despite a claim in November by the non-profit’s president, Donna Shalala, that “there is nothing to suggest that the foundation intended to conceal the receipt of government grants, which we report on our website.”

After Russians hack DNC, White House blames the Republicans

The White House reacted to reports that Russian hackers penetrated the Democratic National Committee's computer network by complaining that Republicans have blocked additional money for funds to enhance the nation's cybersecurity.

"This administration takes our nation's cybersecurity quite seriously," press secretary Josh Earnest said, referring to a proposal in the president's budget that would increase resources to guard the nation against hacks of this nature.

"Republicans for the first time in 40 years declined to even hold a hearing on that specific budget proposal, which means that the president has put forward a specific plan, laid out exactly how he believes we should pay for [enhancing] our nation's cybersecurity, and Republicans in the House and Senate have indicated they don't even want to talk about it," Earnest said. "So, that's rather disappointing."

'Weapons of War' and Other Leftist Fairy Tales

In the wake of the mass murder at a homosexual nightclub in Orlando this past weekend, the anti-gun Left quite predictably renewed the clamor for more gun control laws generally, and specifically an outright ban on “military-style assault weapons.” They of course have largely worn out this grossly inaccurate term, so they’re beginning to move on in their demagoguery to “weapons of war.” (Conservatives who concede these terms do the cause a disservice.) This is all part of the agenda to scare the public into ceding rights and submitting to centralized control.

Speaking of inaccurate terms, The Washington Post wrote a lengthy article about the evil AR-15 used in Orlando, before having to admit it did not identify the gun in question correctly. Of course, the WaPo is hardly the only media outlet to get it wrong. The jihadi used a Sig Sauer MCX carbine, which is an entirely different gun.

There is a profound amount of ignorance and demagoguery surrounding these weapons, so let’s start by establishing what an “assault weapon” is and is not. According to the U.S. Defense Department’s Defense Intelligence Agency book “Small Arms Identification and Operation Guide,” “assault rifles” are “short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges.” Selective fire means you can choose between semi- (one round fired per trigger pull), and full-auto (continuous fire as long as the trigger is depressed).

(The Truth About Assault Weapons is an outstanding resource for further information.)

Contrary to the hysterical claims of the anti-gun crowd, full-auto weapons have been highly regulated since 1934, and effectively prohibited since 1986. To obtain a full-auto-capable weapon, one must pay a heavy federal tax and go through an FBI background check, including fingerprinting each finger on both hands. In fact, even for standard, non-“assault” weapons purchases, one must go through background checks and fill out a stack of paperwork in order to comply with the roughly 20,000 federal, state and municipal gun laws currently on the books in the U.S. Anyone who claims you can walk into a pawn shop or a gun store, throw down some cash, and walk out with a new gun 10 minutes later is either misinformed or deceitful.

Murder in Chincoteague: The Sensational Crime of a Lovesick Man Who Lost His Grip

Do you remember those scenes in “The Shining” when a maniacal-looking Jack Nicholson would be typing and typing and typing like, well, mad, and in the end we see that he’s been typing the same insane few words over and over again? Those scenes popped into my head recently while I was reading up on story of a sensational murder case that happened in Chincoteague, Va. back in 1885.

The weekend that I’m posting this is the 131st anniversary of the day Tom Freeman finally went off the deep end. The killer was a lovestruck 20-year-old native of Chincoteague who, like Nicholson in “The Shining,” had a weird thing about writing—in this case, he labored intently on distraught letters that he would never send. It’s not hard to imagine him taking pen to paper with something like that wild-eyed look that Nicholson had in the movie while ripping up the pages he didn’t like.

Here is what Freeman wrote in one of those unsent letters to the father of his beloved: “Dear Sir, to all the peopel in the world I will tell you that I have Die for love I am going to kill myself on a count Jennie Hill Wee have been corting about 8 mount and this is the last, I will Die and I will kill my lover so good by to all and to everybody this is my request to be Bury long a side of hear.”

Spelling and grammar weren’t Tom’s strong suit.

Alexander: Allahu Akbar Orlando — Analysis of the Absurd

Historically, the worst in America brings out the best in America. Whether the catastrophic Islamist 9/11 attack 15 years ago, or the devastating Islamist attack in Orlando last weekend, killing 49 civilians and leaving many others in critical condition, first responders, friends and neighbors, and most Americans nationwide, are quick to rally in support of victims and their families. This unity in moments of great tragedy speaks volumes about the combined character of our nation.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about most leftist demagogues and many of their loyal constituents. When a political machine depends on a generationally tried and true “divide and conquer” strategy — one that foments discontent and division based on income, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, education, occupation and the like — in order to achieve its political objectives, predictably their politics of disunity will emerge before the blood on the walls has dried.

Indeed, that was abundantly apparent after the murders in Orlando, when Barack Obama and his water boys wasted no time converting this tragedy into political fodder, propping up their political agenda upon the coffins of the dead. The contrast between the unifying good of the American people and the gross politicization of this tragedy by BO, et al. was crystal clear. BO is not only divisive, but he appeals, directly, to the absolute worst in America.

Breaking from my usual narrative column, allow me to share some categorical observations about the Orlando attack.

Subject: “Islamic Refugee” With Gas Pipeline Plans Arrested in New Mexico Border County

Police in a U.S. town bordering Mexico have apprehended an undocumented, Middle Eastern woman in possession of the region’s gas pipeline plans, law enforcement sources tell Judicial Watch. Authorities describe the woman as an “Islamic refugee” pulled over during a traffic stop by a deputy sheriff in Luna County, New Mexico which shares a 54-mile border with Mexico. County authorities alerted the U.S. Border Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) has been deployed to the area to investigate, sources with firsthand knowledge of the probe confirm.

The gas pipeline plans in the woman’s possession include the Deming region, law enforcement sources say. Deming is a Luna County city situated about 35 miles north of the Mexican border and 60 miles west of Las Cruces. It has a population of about 15,000. Last year one local publication listed Deming No. 1 on a list of the “ten worst places” to live in New Mexico due to high unemployment, poverty, crime and a horrible public education system. The entire region is a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), according to the Justice Department’s National Drug Intelligence Center due to the large amounts of methamphetamines, heroin, cocaine and marijuana smuggled through the state by Mexican traffickers. Specifically, the renowned Juárez and Sinaloa cartels operate in the area, the feds affirm in a report.

Judicial Watch has broken a number of stories in the last few years about Mexican drug traffickers smuggling Islamic terrorists into the United States through the porous southern border. Last summer high-level sources on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border offered alarming details about an operation in which cartels smuggle foreigners from countries with terrorist links into a small Texas rural town near El Paso. Classified as Special Interest Aliens (SIA) by the U.S. government, the foreigners get transported to stash areas in Acala, a rural crossroads located around 54 miles from El Paso on a state road – Highway 20. Once in the U.S., the SIAs wait for pick-up in the area’s sand hills just across Highway 20.

A few months ago Judicial Watch reported that members of a cell of Islamic terrorists stationed in Mexico cross into the U.S. to explore targets for future attacks with the help of Mexican drug traffickers. Among the jihadists that travel back and forth through the porous southern border is a Kuwaiti named Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir, an ISIS operative who lives in the Mexican state of Chihuahua not far from El Paso, Texas.

ILLEGAL ALIEN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE COUNTS OF CHILD SEX ASSAULT

THOMASVILLE, NC – A Maryland man was arrested Saturday and charged with the sexual assault of two juveniles in Davidson County.

Barba is accused of sexually abusing two juveniles in 2008. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office first began investigating on Feb. 5, 2008, after receiving a report, the agency said. Barba lived in Thomasville at the time.

The sheriff’s office said Barba was romantically involved with an adult family member of the reported victims. The agency issued warrants against Barba, who is accused of fleeing the area, the sheriff’s office said.

Somalis in America: A Horror Story of Crime, Violence, and Now Terrorism

[This story was originally published on September 24, 2013. --Editor]

The decision taken in the early 1990s by former president Bill Clinton to import tens of thousands of backward Somalis into the American heartland of Minnesota has turned into an entirely predictable tale of crime, violence—and now, as demonstrated in a Nairobi, Kenya, shopping mall atrocity, terrorism.

According to a claim by Kenya’s foreign minister Amina Mohamed, up to three Somalis, who she claimed were “American teenagers aged between 18 and 19, of Somali or Arab origin” took part in the bloody attack which has left dozens dead in the East African nation’s capital city.

Although unconfirmed at time of writing, it would be no surprise to discover that “American” Somalis are part of the terrorist squad in Nairobi—because it would fit perfectly with the already well-developed pattern among that racial group in the US.

The first large-scale invasion of Somalis into Minnesota occurred after the outbreak of civil war in their country in the early 1990s. After an abortive American military attempt to quell the uprising in Somalia (captured in film in the movie Black Hawk Down), the Clinton presidency decided that the primitive Somali tribesmen could be “saved” from their own self-inflicted chaos by transporting them in large numbers to what was then still the whitest part of the US.

This deliberate racial invasion—where tribesmen literally had to be taught how to use modern outlets and bathrooms before being unleashed upon the once-pristine twin cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul, has been actively pursued ever since, so that today that city is now one the largest Somali cities in the world (there is not even one of the ramshackle settlements in Somalia which masquerade as “towns” which have that many Somalis congregated together as residents).

Most of the Somalis were sent to Minnesota because a number of Christian state-based voluntary agencies (VOLAGS), namely the Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities, and World Relief Minnesota have formally contracted with the State Department to settle the Third Worlders in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Here are both sides in the debate over Baltimore's $15 minimum wage proposal

Angie Mills, 51, has lived in and around Baltimore her whole life. For over 25 years she has worked low-wage jobs while trying to raise her three children.

Mills currently works as a janitorial service worker on Light Street downtown. She lives in public housing and has struggled throughout her life to provide food, education and health care for her family. Such struggles can be “pretty humiliating,” she said.

“The impact of a $15 minimum wage would really make a difference for me,” she said.

Mills and around 40 other low-wage workers, business owners and city officials testified before the Labor Committee of the Baltimore City Council during a hearing Wednesday evening at City Hall. The hearing concerned a bill proposed in April, by City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, that would raise the minimum wage in Baltimore to $15 per hour by July 2020. It would then index that minimum wage to keep pace with future cost of living increases for the city. The testimony on Wednesday was both for and against the measure.

Obama Admin Rejects Funding for Israel’s Security, Defense

The Obama administration is refusing to fully fund Israel’s security and defense, informing Congress in a letter on Tuesday it opposes efforts to provide the Jewish state with nearly $500 million for its top missile defense programs.

Congressional supporters of Israel expressed outrage at the administration’s move, telling the Washington Free Beacon that Israel needs this funding to help it combat terrorist forces and perfect missile system technology that it jointly shares with the United States.

The administration told lawmakers that it “opposes the addition of $455 million” in additional funding for Israeli missile defense projects in the fiscal year 2017 budget, which is working its way through Congress, according to a letter from the White House.

Israel requested $601 million in U.S. funding for missile defense programs that are jointly shared with the United States and help defend both countries. However, the Obama administration said it would only provide the Jewish state with $146 million.

The administration rejects ongoing efforts by lawmakers to fill the funding gap and provide Israel with full funding for these programs.

The administration’s stance has angered both Democratic and Republican supporters of the Jewish state, who maintain these programs are key to the defense and security of both Israel and America.

Experts: Chesapeake Bay’s ‘Dead Zone’ Will Be Smaller This Year

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The Chesapeake Bay has been showing major signs of improvement this year with clearer water, more bay grasses and an increase in the crab population.

But every summer, massive algae blooms create dead zones in the bay,WJZ’s Alex DeMetrick reports.

Dead zones are created when the algae begins to decay and chokes the oxygen out of the water, killing anything that isn’t able to relocate.

Rainfall washes nitrogen and phosphorous found in fertilizer, human and animal waste and air pollution into the bay for the algae to feed off of. But with a lack of rainfall this year, the algae blooms are expected to be smaller.

“What we’re predicting for this summer is a less than average dead zone,” says Dr. Bill Dennison of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. “This is good news for the bay.”

'Islamic refugee' caught in U.S. with gas-pipeline plans

In an eerie development on concerns about Islamic terrorism, New Mexico police have apprehended an illegal Middle Eastern woman in possession of the region’s gas pipeline plans.

According to Judicial Watch, authorities in Luna County – which borders Mexico – pulled the woman over during a traffic stop. The woman was described as an “Islamic refugee.” After the plans were found, county authorities alerted the U.S. Border Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces, or JTTF, which has been deployed to the area to investigate.

The pipeline plans include the Deming region, situated about 35 miles north of the Mexican border and with a population of about 15,000. Deming is considered one of the “10 worst places” to live in New Mexico due to drug cartels, gangs, unemployment, poverty and crime.

Ever Heard Of Goat Island? This Weekend’s Paddle Sports Festival Aims To Spread Word

SNOW HILL – Goat Island’s lone resident will have a few new friends following a unique Snow Hill event set for this weekend.

Snow Hill will host its first paddle sports festival, Return to Goat Island, June 18 and 19. Though the festival includes several races, the highlight is the 17-mile paddle race. The winner will have the opportunity to name one of a handful of goats that will soon be moved to Goat Island.

“I want to put Goat Island on the map along with Snow Hill,” said Michael Day, the town’s economic development consultant. “Everybody has fallen in love with the concept of ‘Return to Goat Island.’”

According to Day, the two-acre island — located just across the water from Byrd Park — has always been home to a handful of goats.

Dems quietly slipping gun control into mental-health bill

A group of Democrats fueled by the Orlando LGBT nightclub murders committed by Omar Mateen – a Muslim who touted his allegiance to ISIS during a 9-1-1 call placed amid the shootings – are planning to slip a couple gun-control measures into a bill by Rep. Tim Murphy that’s supposed to focus on mental health.

The bill, which is slated for House Energy and Commerce Committee consideration on Wednesday, was already under fire for perceived anti-liberty language, as WND previously reported.

But the gun control measures are new, added just after the Orlando shootings that left 49 dead and 53 injured.

Not all the text is available, but one, from Rep. Tony Cardenas, a Democrat from California, would lift a ban on gun-related research being conducted by federal entities, according to media reports. It comes as the American Medical Association voted this week to declare gun violence a “public health crisis” and to “actively lobby” for the federal government to conduct its own research on firearms, the Hill reported.

Heroin Dealer Sentenced To 35 Years In Fatal Overdose Case; Judge Calls Man ‘Danger To The Community’

SNOW HILL — In yet another small victory in the ongoing battle against the growing heroin epidemic, a Berlin man last week was found guilty of supplying the drug that led to a man’s fatal overdose and was sentenced to a combined 35 years in prison.

Patrick Thomas, 59, of Berlin, last week was found guilty of manslaughter, distribution of heroin and possession with intent to distribute heroin after an extensive investigation last summer identified him as the dealer that supplied the drug to another man that ultimately led to a fatal overdose. Thomas was sentenced to 20 years for the distribution of heroin conviction and 10 years for the manslaughter conviction, which will be served concurrently. He was also sentenced to 15 years for the possession with intent to distribute conviction, which will be served consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 35 years.

Holding a known distributor accountable in fatal overdoses is certainly not a new concept. Just last month another Berlin man was found guilty of manslaughter and distribution of heroin for supplying the drug in a fatal overdose case. There was another case in Ocean City in 2011 when a heroin addict on vacation in the resort knowingly supplied a female companion with methadone on which she fatally overdosed.

However, with the growing heroin epidemic on the Lower Shore and across the country, prosecutors are more frequently seeking manslaughter convictions for suppliers. While education and rehabilitation remain the key components in the battle, unique, proactive approaches are now being implemented, including prosecuting those who supply the drugs.

Appeals court overturns verdict in Ventura defamation case

The U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday overturned a jury's decision to award $1.8 million to former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura in a 2014 defamation case.

A three-judge panel unanimously threw out the $1.35 million award to Ventura for "unjust enrichment," saying Minnesota law did not permit it. And in a 2-1 decision, it reversed the $500,000 award for defamation, remanding the case to the district court for a new trial on that question.

The decision was a victory for Taya Kyle, the widow of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who wrote the bestselling memoir "American Sniper" that Ventura said defamed him. It was also a win for national news organizations that had urged that the verdict be thrown out.

"If a person bringing a libel suit could collect not just for damages, but for unjust enrichment … the whole nature of libel law would have been changed in a very threatening way," said Floyd Abrams, a prominent First Amendment attorney in New York, who had filed an amicus brief on behalf of 33 news organizations.

The ruling was a serious blow to Ventura, the former professional wrestler who served as governor from 1999 to 2003.

State Rests Case At Goodson Trial

The prosecution rested its case at around 4:15 yesterday after presenting 22 witnesses over the last five days.

The defense has already filed a written motion asking the judge for an acquittal on all charges.

That is a fairly standard practice at the mid-point of any trial.

Judge Barry Williams has given the prosecution the option of filing their own written response, and the motion will be considered in court when the trial resumes tomorrow morning at 9:30.

The judge also indicated that with the prosecution recessing now, the defense has said they will " truncate their case," meaning the defense case could go much shorter than planned.

It also raises question whether the defense will call Donta Allen, the second prisoner loaded into the van with Freddie Gray.

Dining Tip Of The Month

When you are truly looking for a great place to enjoy a great lunch or dinner, visit and find the Martin Fish Co. restaurant in West Ocean City.

I've kept this a secret for far too long. This is one of those places you would NEVER expect to not only be there, it's so hidden and rustic, most wouldn't know where it is.

Rt. 50 to Golf Course Road SOUTH. Follow Golf Course Road to the end where it turns left onto Harbor Road. Captain's Galley will be on your left. Keep going almost to the very end and you will find Martin's on your left.

They are also a fresh seafood market but have a dining area in the back directly on the Harbor. The image above was their Mahi/Tuna Taco lunch special for $6.50.

Push Back on Washington's Radical New Education Agenda

Kindergarten used to be a place for children to learn how to add, subtract, and read. Next year, Washington school children as young as five years old will instead be learning about gender expression, gender identity and fluidity, sexual orientation, and HIV prevention.

The newly-minted health and education standards, released by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), will be implemented in schools across the state for the 2017-2018 school year.

Parents should be concerned about whether these standards are age-appropriate, as well as whether the manner in which these topics will be taught may undermine their values.

You can read more about this overreach at this link.

Sign our petition to request that OSPI modify the 2017-18 Health and Physical Education Standards, and to request that OSPI respect the wishes of parents and taxpayers by removing these controversial topics from the elementary school curriculum standards once and for all.

Once this petition reaches 10,000 signatures, it will be presented to OSPI and members of the Washington State Legislature.
