SU Closed Monday; Classes to Start Wednesday

Due to record snow falls in parts of Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic where many Salisbury University students reside, and still dangerous secondary roads on the Eastern Shore, the campus will remain closed on Monday, January 25. Classes will begin on Wednesday, January 27.
Below is the current schedule:
  • Sunday, January 24: Campus closed. Essential personnel report to work.
  • Monday, January 25: Campus closed and no classes. Essential personnel report to work.
  • Tuesday, January 26: Campus reopens but classes are canceled. Residence Hall Move-in is scheduled from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Liberal leave policy is in effect for non-essential personnel. Those wishing to use liberal leave must notify their supervisors.
  • Wednesday, January 27: Campus open with first day of classes.
These precautions have been taken to give students more time to return safely to SU following the storm. The spring semester will officially begin on Wednesday, January 27. Students may move into their residence halls until 8 p.m. tonight (Sunday) or between 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Again, please use caution when traveling.

  1. I hope these students will receive 2 extra days of instruction to make up for the loss or a refund for the lost instruction time.

  2. Snow days are built into the schedule. Professors will definitely give work-- assignments, quizzes, etc can be provided online and frequently are.

  3. Local weather is fine. Is this because students have to travel in from areas impacted by the storm?

    1. Don't waste your breath. The people that write such idiotic comments still believe the world is flat. They believe the world revolves around them so if they have to get up and get out to go work a minimum wage job, everyone else should follow suit just so their lives don't look quite so pathetic.

  5. So, if they are here and not allowed to move in to a dorm they have paid for, does the University cover their hotel stay?

  9. Where is the crying "university professor" bashing wicomico teachers for the snow day last Thursday? I guess you get to stay home while wicomico public school teachers are working today. Yeah you do so much more work don't you? Oh and you get tomorrow off too. And you were such a baby crying. You wouldn't last one day in a public school. The thug kids would have your tail between your legs while you run crying back to SU to do your research and earn more pointless degrees. Public school teachers have a lot more to deal with than your spoiled SU kids from PA, NJ, and MD western shore. And please don't bash the thug kids levels of intelligence because we know your SU students aren't so bright either. Enjoy your stay at home for half the week "professor".

  10. 809 is a wonderful example of the type of people teaching your children common core in school. Not only is the lesson plans dummying down your child but its delivered by someone who has the maturity level that appears be on level or lower than your child's. Sad to think people like 809 actually walk among us masquerading as an adult. Dismal indictment of our public school system.

    1. Ummm.... Actually it's the other way around. I'm not a public school teacher but based on the comments made about Wicomico school teachers last week When Freddy closed schools I would say the community hates public school teachers. No wonder public school teachers have so many issues. This community doesn't support the teachers. So 8:31 say what you want about them but I agree with 8:09. Stop blaming public school teachers. You should be blaming the Maryland state legislators and the teachers union who accepted and implemented Common Core, less discipline, over testing and anything else that has made our education system suck. Professors have it easy. One thing I will say against the public school teachers is they are too blind and stupid to realize their union is a major cause of a lot of the problems they face.

  12. When I was young, teachers were people to look up to and revered, but looking at this person who is chastising the professors seems to represent the type of people no one can look up to. They sound like someone who wishes they were a professor and are jealous. Pettiness has no place in a school system but the teachers seem to be the worst offenders. I guess being around all those bullies has rubbed off on them.

  13. Wicomico County Schools are closed today for professional day

  14. 839 if it weren't a professional day they'd be closed. Why don't they do these professional days in the summer instead of smack dab in the middle of a school year?
