Walmart Ends Healthcare Benefits For Workers Under 30 Hours

Under the title (only-a-PR-person-could-make-up) "Providing Quality Benefits for Our Associates," Walmart - who employs 1.3 million people in America, has changed its eligibility standards for healthcare benefits. "Like every company," they explain "Walmart faces rising healthcare costs," and so are ending benefits for associates who work less than 30 hours a week.

Full Walmart statement

In the U.S., the 1.3 million people who work at our stores, clubs and distribution centers are vital to a great experience for the 140 million customers shopping with us each week. We’re in business because our associates bring us their unique skills and talents – and so we do our absolute best to offer all the benefits that come with a great job, particularly affordable health insurance.

  1. Wal mart is full of it. These are the same people that blamed Tracy Morgan for getting mangled by a Wal Mart Truck. Smh

  4. WM has finally realized that their employees will not be happy regardless of what they do.High time for that. They also did everything humanly possible to rectify the Tracy Morgan incident, taking full responsibility for the consequences. No lawsuit was necessary until Morgan realized the mass fortune that could be made by doing so.WM has every right to defend themselves.

  5. 11:50 - with the amount of money that WalMart makes, I would suggest they could have continued to cover a significant portion....

Not disagreeing that the ACA is a POS legislation that is having that affect on a lot of companies....

  6. 11:50 Obamacase exists, but Walmart surely made a choice here. They are an awful company, sorry to say.

Want a big-box retailer that treats its staff well and still delivers low prices? Try Bj's, Costco, Petsmart, Gander Mountain, Target, Sears, Big Lots, Food Lion... many in the Salisbury area that AREN'T Walmart (or worse... Kmart!).

  7. 12:08 Not allowed to. We are fighting the same thing here at a 100+ person business. It is not Walmarts fault, it is the CRAP wording in the ACA, which our "leaders" failed to even read. Keep blaming them though, keep yourself in the dark.

  8. 12:39 - enlighten us with "the CRAP wording" that prevents WalMart from subsequently paying their people more to cover the added costs that "the CRAP wording" doesn't allow them to cover the way they did before the ACA.

Still blaming them - at least partially because they made a decision.

Meanwhile, I'm in the light enough to know that both are wrong....

  9. Walmart is own by the riches family in the u. s. practically the world. If they wanted to pay health care to employees with 30 hours or less, they would foot the bill. Walmart cares only for their own family and no one else. Their problems have nothing to do with the president.
Pure greed is the motivating factor that most companies makes with their employees. But, they have to blame their decision on some one. It's easy to blame the president because and unfortunately, most people in this country hate their presidents.

  10. C'mon, people. Show some empathy.
It extremely tough being down to your last 200 BILLION dollars.
That's the net worth of the Walton family, who usually occupy 4-5 of the yearly listings of the USA's top richest people.
These P/T jobs are the ones obama touts as being part of his economic "recovery".
Part time, no benefits, low wage, service jobs.
The ones that help build the fortunes of the Walton's. And they love to show how much they appreciate all those workers.
And by "appreciate", I mean F them.

  11. Walmart is not a family owned business. It is a massive complex business with world wide exposure. It is the earliest stages of communism in our country. It has and will continue to destroy our economy.

  12. 1:29 More public sector guilt mongering. People create a business to MAKE MONEY. We can't all be like the county, city, state and feds, where the goal is to always spend more than what you bring in.

You start a business to MAKE A PROFIT. Of course you're going to make sure you get paid... the business owner takes ALL of the risks, puts up all of the money, and deserves the reward for their creation.

    Walmart. Not Food Lion.

You can do it. Stay focused. Read the words out loud. Slowly.

  14. Walmart is a BS job don't work there if you think it's career. They are in business to make money. If you need to blame someone blame the government with the highest corporate tax rate in the world...and health care as well.

  15. What's all the noise about? And who needs any stinkin Walmart job anyway? Go on welfare, collect all of the benefits, including FREE health care and then do something on the side for tax FREE spending money. All of us Democrats know this and have lived this way for decades. And we're every color under the proverbial rainbow. It is the American Democratic way, but you have to register as a Democrat to get in the club. We don't worry about paying income taxes because we know the IRS can't take something from those who have supposedly have nothing. We don't worry about mortgages, we've got government vouchers to pay for our homes, our kids eat better than yours, it's fiesta time at every meal. Don't believe me? Look at our shopping carts in the grocery stores. Who's look better? Yours or mine. You worry about money, ours gets deposited every month like clock work. Our new cars are either leased or financed so no one can take them. We teach our kids counter culture ways of progress and get to be U.S. Presidents, attorney generals, senators, legislators, mayors and business owners without the slightest qualification. All we have to do is ride the Democratic train of FREE and yell the words, I'm a Democrat, vote for me. We are at the top and didn't do a single thing to get there except understand the word FREE, a word that you don't really understand, do you? We've used it wisely, haven't we, look at us now, we have mixed the races, screwed the all to willing whores and whore mongers to the degree that few families are left being a single race. All forced down your throats by liberal Democrats. We are backed by ALL media, in every form, we've outlawed ANY and ALL negative terminology and discrimination. We, are the Democrats of FREE and have made this world into what WE want, the rest of you left in our wake, can take a big dump and go to hell, all the while paying for us as you go. So in ending, you now realize there truly is a FREE lunch, we know and live it, because we generational life long Democrats are entitled, YOU are NOT.
