Wicomico County: Don’t Be Fooled By That Sitting Judge “Endorsement”

Maryland’s statewide “bar association” has once again endorsed all the incumbent circuit court judges who are running in this year’s election, which include Spyros J. Sarbanes . He is trumpeting that in his campaign as if it were a very significant approval based upon serious evaluation of his qualifications and those of his opponent, M. J. Caldwell, but it is nothing of the kind.

If O’Malley had appointed Mr. Caldwell, then he would have been endorsed by the state lawyers group, which for many years has followed the policy of giving a blanket endorsement to the “sitting judges” who are running in order to remain on the circuit court as required in the election immediately after being appointed and every so often thereafter. That endorsement means nothing except that O’Malley didn’t appoint someone else.

  1. Sounds like Sarbanes' campaign is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the voters.

    I'm shocked!

  3. Sarbanes' campaign keeps harping that he's qualified because of his "judicial temperament" .....

That'd be like buying a car for the cup-holder. It doesn't make it a good car.

  4. There is no substitute for experience......

    Unless.....

  5. The campaign sign says "vote to retain" Sarbanes. He has never been a judge before, as he was just appointed by O'Malley. The job was not earned. It was totally a political appointment.

  6. Joe -- they don't even poll their members like the county bar association did when they gave Caldwell much better marks than Sarbanes.

  7. Why would we settle for LESS experienced?

  8. Just found out that the Pappas family owns the Green Turtle. Is this the same family that is supporting Sarbanes?

  10. Let's correct O'Malley's mistake -- we can do so in the primary by voting for M. J. Caldwell.

It's time to say YES, we want the most qualified person sitting as a Circuit Court Judge in Wicomico County.

    Name doe not equal qualified.

Nepotism? Yes thank you, I'll take it because they said so....... NOT.
