In anticipation of hot weather in the weeks ahead, Wicomico County Public Schools would like to remind Wicomico school families of the excused absence option for students attending schools that are not fully air conditioned.
When the forecasted high temperature for the day exceeds 85 degrees, parents and guardians may choose not to have their child attend that day if the child attends Bennett Middle, East Salisbury Elementary or West Salisbury Elementary, or areas of Pittsville Elementary and Middle that do not have air conditioning.
Upon the student’s return to school, parents and guardians must provide a note naming the heat as the reason for the absence, in order for the absence to be excused. Students will be allowed to make up work that they miss during these excused absence days.
Every effort will be made to provide for the comfort of students who attend schools on hot days. Students may have water bottles in the classroom and are urged to wear attire that will keep them cooler while still meeting the dress code. In classrooms and hallways, fans keep the air moving and lights are oven shut off to create a more comfortable learning environment.

ReplyDeleteIn Baltimore the government is giving section 8 residents free air-conditioners! Your tax dollars at work for lazy bums!
ReplyDeleteMy son goes to BMS. He has Asthma. He always try to stay home on those days its hot like that and I just shovel him right along.
ReplyDeleteThey will all be just fine. Drink water, stay settled down and you will make it though the day, I promise. Now, 110 or something crazy like that, it's different.
With all the money spent on education you would think they could get some a/c in these school rooms.
ReplyDeleteHow about the taxes parents are paying in Maryland. There is NO reason for this. I guess the employees in government building don't have to worry about the heat. Oh! How about the INMATES in county jails. I bet they do not have to worry about the heat. The Upper echelon applies for grants, they receive money from the from the government and donations from their rich friends and none of this money goes into providing a cool place fro the kids. Further, this is an election years. Some of that campaign money can be used to provide a cool place for these kids. This is pitiful.

DeleteI grew up going to public schools in Kansas. There was no air conditioning. In fact the water fountains weren't even cooled.
