Here We Go Again, The Daily Times Re Writes History

Jennifer Foxwell & Tracey Powell Meet Our Maryland Legislators

If only the Daily Times had spent the kind of time they should have on the original story in Annapolis about Sarah Foxwell and the real hero's behind the new legislation in Maryland referencing sex offenders.

In today's Daily Times there were a lot of names mentioned but not really the ones who had done all the hard work to get the new legislation passed.

We'll start with Delegate Mike Smigiel. Mike fought so hard in the previous session to get these laws better, as did Delegate Jim Mathias. Unfortunately it took Sarah Foxwell's death to really gain the attention these new laws deserved, along with her Mother Jennifer Foxwell and Aunt Tracey Powell.

I think we can all agree, if you look back at our original Posts about the history of this story, without Jennifer Foxwell and Tracey Powell, nothing would have changed.

Of course there's no mention whatsoever in today's article of their participation but maybe that's because their reporters are what we might call virgins to Salisbury and the Eastern Shore.

You can click on the title above or simply type in Sarah Foxwell or Jennifer Foxwell in the search bar in the top left hand corner of this Blog and see the REAL history behind who and what made such a historic change in sex offender laws in the state of Maryland.

My hat will forever be tipped legislative wise to Mike Smigiel, Jim Mathias, Norm Conway and Governor Martin O'Malley. Putting aside our personal differences, this could NOT have been done without Jennifer Foxwell and Tracey Powell. I don't think you'll find ANY state representative who would deny such a statement.

It's a shame the Daily Times ignored their participation and chose instead to re write history.

Suspect in Wisconsin Spa Shooting Reportedly Found Dead

A county dispatcher says the man suspected of killing three and wounding four in a shooting at a spa in suburban Milwaukee has been found dead.
Christine Bannister, a dispatch supervisor for Waukesha County communications center, told the Associated Press that she could not provide more details on the death of 45-year-old Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, of Brown Deer. Police identified Haughton as the suspect Sunday afternoon.
Haughton is reportedly the estranged husband of one of the hair stylists who works at the spa, Fox 6 Now reports. Online court records showed a temporary restraining order was issued against Haughton in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Oct. 8 because of a domestic abuse complaint.

Nevada Judge to Take Testimony on OJ Simpson Freedom Bid

A Nevada judge agreed Friday to reopen the armed robbery and kidnapping case against former football star O.J. Simpson to determine if Simpson was so badly represented by his lawyers that he should be freed from prison and re-tried.
Simpson wasn't in a Las Vegas courtroom while Clark County District Court Judge Linda Marie Bell agreed to hear evidence and consider 18 of 22 questions cited in a May appeal by Simpson appeals lawyer Patricia Palm.
The judge dismissed four other grounds on which the 65-year-old Simpson seeks release from state prison, where he is serving nine to 33 years.

Maryland Gambling Issue Has Netted $56 Million From Companies For Ad Blitz

Dueling out-of-state gambling companies and their allies have poured $56 million into the fight over whether to allow a Las Vegas-style casino in Prince George’s County, fueling an unprecedented advertising blitz in what has become one of the most visible races in the region.
The money, which is being shelled out at a rate of $6 million a week, exceeds what the candidates spent in Maryland’s past two gubernatorial races combined. With two weeks to go, the spending has already eclipsed that of all but a handful of other recent ballot measures across the country. And it is unlike anything previously seen in Maryland politics.

George P. Bush Hints at Running for Office While Campaigning for Romney

George P. Bush hopes to be the next in the political family dynasty to hold public office, he said in an interview with Fox News Latino on Saturday.
Bush, who generally has avoided discussing his plans for his own political future, said that possibly “in the next election cycle” he’ll focus on holding public office in Texas, where he lives. Some political insiders in Texas have been raising 2014 as a year when Bush might figure prominently as a candidate.
Though he did not get specific about what office he is eying, political observers have mentioned Texas State Attorney General or Texas Land Commissioner.

Study Shows that Early Puberty is Now Affecting Boys, Just Like Girls

The mystery surrounding why girls have been experiencing puberty at younger ages still hasn’t been solved, and now new research shows that the same thing is happening to boys.
Researchers have found signs of puberty in American boys up to two years earlier than previously reported — age 9 on average for blacks, 10 for whites and Hispanics (puberty is considered early in boys if it occurs by age 9 or earlier) . The study was published online in Pediatrics to coincide with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ national conference in New Orleans.

International Monitors At US Polling Places Draw Criticism

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers around the county on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places.
Liberal-leaning civil rights groups met with representatives from the OSCE this week to raise their fears about what they say are systematic efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.

Obama, Mitt Romney Fundraising Reports Provide Bright Spots For Both Campaigns

A strong fundraising month in September for both President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney gave both campaigns and their allied committees something to smile about as they entered the final month of the campaign.
For Romney -- his campaign, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Romney Victory -- entered October with a big cash on-hand advantage just in time to jump after the candidate's dominant first debate performance. The Obama team -- his campaign, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Obama Victory Fund -- can look positively at both its fundraising and spending dominance over Romney and his allies. The team also can be assured that Obama and his team of consultants have more direct control over the money raised than Romney and his top advisers have over their money.

MALKIN: 'VOTE WITH YOUR LADY SMARTS, NOT YOUR LADY PARTS'

Michelle Malkin joined "Fox and Friends" to talk about the pay disparity in the Obama administration Malkin said that "women should know these facts." Malkin continued, "and as I've been counseling people, don't let these Obama administration officials, who basically treat women like meat, come on, they're assuming that just because of your chromosomes that you're going to slavishly vote Democrat. Vote with your lady smarts, not your lady parts."

MEET ‘CINNAMON’: OBAMA SUPER-FAN SAYS MITT ROMNEY IS A ‘COMMUNIST’ & ‘SOCIALIST’ THAT WANTS TO ‘WORK FOR CHINA’

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been called a lot of things: a liar, tax cheat, heartless rich guy, field general in the war on women. However, he has never been called a socialist-slash-communist who wants to “work for China” — until now.
MRCTV  was able to get an interview with a pink-haired mega-fan of President Barack Obama. “Cinnamon” told MRCTV that she has seen Obama six times in person and has also seen him in his car around Washington, D.C. She promises that she isn’t stalking the president.
But here’s where it gets even more interesting. When asked about Romney and what would become of the United States of America if he became president, this is what Cinnamon had to say:

Smucker’s Uncrustables Sandwiches Recalled Over Peanut Butter Salmonella Worries

Smucker's Uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwiches sold to school lunch programs in the United States are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, Smucker’s spokeswoman Maribeth Badertscher said in an email Thursday.
The J.M. Smucker Co. used peanut butter that was produced by Sunland Inc. and supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in “limited production runs” of 72-count bulk packs of the sandwiches that went to schools under the National School Lunch Program.
The peanut butter in the sandwiches was produced by Sunland Inc., which closed its Portales, N.M. plant last month and recalled more than 200 peanut products made under a variety of brand names after salmonella was discovered in Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, the Associated Press reported.

Madison Rising Completes One Million Star Spangled Banner Challenge And Ups The Ante To Five Million

Patriotic rock band Madison Rising has successfully completed its One Million Star Spangled Banner Challenge a full seven weeks earlier than expected. As a result, the group has significantly increased the stakes and re-launched the campaign as the Five Million Star Spangled Banner Challenge, http://www.starspangledbannerchallenge.com. This ambitious goal of reaching five million views on a single YouTube video is nearly unprecedented for an independent recording artist, but the band is confident they will be able to achieve it.

“We hit our goal of one million views on the video on the morning of September 14th – the exact date Francis Scott Key wrote the original version 198 years ago,” said band manager, Richard Mgrdechian. “There’s something bigger at work here, and we plan to do everything we can to take advantage of this serendipitous circumstance to continue to re-energize our National Anthem and make it the #1 best selling rock song in the country.”

12-YEAR-OLD GIRL HOME ALONE USES FAMILY GUN TO SHOOT INTRUDER

Police in Oklahoma say a 12-year-old Oklahoma girl used the family gun to shoot an intruder during a burglary.
Bryan County sixth grader Kendra St. Clair told ABC News she was home alone when there was a loud banging on the door, followed by glass shattering and the intruder entering the house.
Terrified, Kendra called her mom, who told her to get the gun and hide in the closet.
“I said you go get the gun and you get in my closet right now and you call 911,” Debra St. Klair told KFOR-TV.

'Night of Too Many Stars' Shines On One Who's Not

Moments of absurdity are to be expected at the biennial "Night of Too Many Stars" benefit on Comedy Central. Things like Seth Rogen auctioning off a trip to the urinal with him; a knock-down, drag-out fight between Kevin Bacon in a butter costume and Liev Schreiber dressed as broccoli; a performance of "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen and Harvey Keitel.

All of those are memorable highlights of the fourth "Night of Too Many Stars," which uses comedy to raise money for autism education programs. But at the event, which was taped last Saturday at the Beacon Theatre in New York and will air Sunday 8 p.m. EDT on Comedy Central, something remarkable and unusually tender happened along with Stephen Colbert being mauled by a bear.

A young autistic girl accomplished a feat beyond that of most, autistic or not: She sang a duet of "Firework" with Katy Perry that brought the house down and moved host Jon Stewart (and many others) to tears. As the standing ovation roared for young Jodi DiPiazza, she stood up from behind the piano and wrapped her arms around Perry, nestling herself against the pop star.

French Dog Poisoned And Buried Alive Survives

A Jack Russell terrier has survived after being poisoned and buried alive _ and he can thank the man who saw the ground wiggle.

Ethan came back to life on his third birthday after someone tried to kill him. He had a whole chain of saviors: the man who dug him up, the firefighters who rushed him off and a veterinarian who nursed him back to life.

Sabrina Zamora, president of an animal association in Charleville-Mezieres, 200 kilometers (125 miles) northeast of Paris, said Friday the little white dog with a black ear was "flat as a pancake" when he was dug up from his grave Tuesday near a lakeside pedestrian path.

Don't Miss The Football Specials All Day And Night At Aqua On The Plaza

First of all, Phil, Joey and Jeremy want to thank everyone who showed up on 3rd Friday. It was an unbelievable night with its ups and downs. Up, because so many people showed up. Down, because there was a 45 minute wait just to get a table. These are growing pains they are working very hard to fix but knowing these guys, they want nothing but the best for their customers and they'll do whatever it takes to make things right.

That being said, they'll open their doors at noon and today's specials are, $2.50 domestic bottles, $2.00 Miller drafts, $4.00 bombs on the bar side. They'll also feature burgers, Philly cheese steaks, wings, buffalo chicken dip, all for $7.50 each.

Enjoy all of the Sunday Football Games on their plasma TV's and great food. I have enjoyed each one of these items above and believe me when I tell you, as usual, you get more for your money at Aqua then any other place in town. Enjoy the games.

How to Sound Like the Bee's Knees: A Dictionary of 1920s Slang

Prohibition be damned, words were just better in the 1920s. There's a fascinating piece today in the New York Times fromEdward Rothstein about the new prohibition exhibition at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center that's well worth a read if you're interested in things booze and 1920s, and of course about that truly weird little legal time in our country's history. But of extra-special interest to me in this article was the following note about the exhibit:
On small tables like those at which “zozzled” (drunk) flappers and “jelly beans” (their boyfriends) once illegally imbibed “foot juice” (cheap wine) or “jag juice” (hard liquor), you can read explanations of speakeasy slang.
Speakeasy slang! Language was truly so much more evocative then, wasn't it? If you don't request extra foot juice tonight at that dive bar where you order the subpar pinot grigio, you are doing something wrong. In honor of this exhibit, I've scoured the Internet for a list of twenties-era wordsand phrases that we need to add to our contemporary conversations. (Did you know that in the 20s,bimbo was used to mean "a tough guy"; butt me was "to take a cigarette"; and handcuff and manaclemeant engagement and wedding ring? A person who was divorced was out on parole, a gimlet was "a chronic bore," and the exclamation "Nerts!" meant "I am amazed." Herewith, a dictionary of awesome twenties slang.

Language On Expanded Gaming In Question 7 Not Legally Binding

Language in the gambling bill gives Prince George's County voters the power to deny Maryland a sixth casino site, even if the referendum question passes statewide, the WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team found.

The language is not legally binding but it is politically powerful. If that scenario plays out, the Video Lottery Facility Location Commission, based on instructions set by the General Assembly, is likely to deny a sixth casino site.
What the combined $50 million campaign for and against expanding gaming in Maryland doesn't say is that if Referendum Question 7 passes statewide -- and voters in Prince George's County vote against it -- then there may be no sixth casino site.

'TRANSFORMERS' DIRECTOR MICHAEL BAY CALLS OUT WHINY, OVERPAID ACTORS

In a recent interview, actor Hugo Weaving dismissed his voice work for the "Transformers" movies in typical Hollywood fashion.

“It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it. They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don’t mean that in any nasty way. I did it. It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things … my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal. I have never met him. I was never on set. I’ve seen his face on Skype. I know nothing about him, really. I just went in and did it. I never read the script. I just have my lines, and I don’t know what they mean.”
"Tranformers" director Michael Bay, in typical Bay fashion, had a few things to say back:
"Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs? With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t ‘artistic enough” or “fulfilling enough”? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so. What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job – let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America. I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their “unhappy job money” to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate."

Baby Jessica Rescue: 25 Years Ago, The Nation Celebrated

It was Oct. 16, 1987, when a toddler who would become known as Baby Jessica was pulled from a Texas well and cheers erupted throughout the country.
Events that unite a nation -- particularly those with a happy ending -- are rare, and the rescue of Jessica McClure, 18 months, was one of those.
As the Los Angeles Times wrote at the time, hundreds of bone-weary rescuers and onlookers cheered in triumph when the girl was pulled out of an abandoned well after a 58 1/2-hour ordeal.

Defense Wants 9/11 Trial Televised Globally From Guantanamo

GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - The death penalty trial of fiveGuantanamo prisoners accused of plotting the September 11 attacks is so important that it should be televised to the public, defense lawyers argued on Friday.

The issue was discussed on the final day of a week-long pretrial hearing for the alleged mastermind of the hijacked plane attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four co-defendants accused of providing money, training and travel assistance to the hijackers.

The five, who could face execution if convicted of charges that include murder and terrorism, skipped Friday's session after the judge declined their request for a recess on the Muslim holy day.

Baby Elephant Rescue Will Steal Your Heart

A baby stuck in a well. A frantic mother crazed with worry for her offspring. Anyone could relate, but these very human emotions came from the bond of an elephant baby and her mother. And a video capturing the rescued calf has captivated the Web.
Just your typical day in Amboseli National Park in Kenya, where a team of elephant conservationists from the Amboseli Trust for Elephants received a call about a baby stuck in a five-foot hole dug by Masai tribesmen. They raced to the site of the accident.
The baby was fine, but the hole was too deep for the eight-month-old calf to climb out. And the mother was unable to help.

Planned Parenthood Chief To Campaign 'Full Time' For Obama In Final Weeks

Cecile Richards drew fire from an anti-abortion-rights group after saying Mitt Romney's election would set women back decades.
The head of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, on Friday touted President Obama's record on women's issues and announced she will be campaigning for the president full time.
"Since day one, President Obama has stood with women. The very first bill he signed was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, allowing us to make sure that women get equal pay to men. And under the Affordable Care Act he's expanded healthcare coverage to millions of American women," says Richards in a Web video released Friday.

Letter To The Editor On Yesterday's Daily Times

Hi! I was wondering if anyone noticed The Daily Times' HUGE typo right on the front page...
VENDERS... is not a word. VENDORS is a word.
Based on the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, VENDOR is a word: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vendorVENDERS is not even in the urban dictionary.
I can't believe an "experienced" editor will let that slide. What an embarrassing mistake coming from our local newspaper.
