Mayor Jim Ireton Is Yet Another Empty Chair

Police Academy Director Moses started out today's ceremony by announcing the dignitaries representing each City and Police Department. Moses got to the City of Salisbury and announced Chief Duncan and then announced Mayor Jim Ireton, stopped, looked back and saw his empty chair and said, well, he's the really tiny man you can't see back there. Salisbury had the honor of enjoying 5 new recruits/officers graduate today and the Mayor was a no show. So much for respecting First Responders.

Sheriff Mike Lewis delivered one of the greatest speeches I've ever heard him give. The details and information he provided to these new Officers was to say the least, a massive wake up call. Maybe I can hire him as a guest speaker on my upcoming campaign trail? One thing is for sure, you'll never fall asleep when Sheriff Mike Lewis is speaking.

Another AWOL person was County Executive Rick Pollitt. I just don't understand why the democratic leadership, (or the lack thereof) continues to do such things. I guess Jimmy wasn't invited to speak and if he was he didn't want to follow Sheriff Lewis, who would.

Congratulations to these 21 new Officers. By the way, Bob Harris isn't 45, he's 48 years old and won the shooting portion of the academy by shooting a 100% throughout the academy. Look out criminals of Delmar, when Bob says FREEZE, you better FREEZE! Not that he can't easily catch you in a foot chase, just FREEZE when he tells you to.

  2. Delamr got a new officer? About damn time! They are only about 1/2 of what they should be. No wonder drugs are sold like crazy there. I hope they get a few more officer because there are so many people selling pills there it isn't funny anymore.

  3. anonymous 5:50, Jim Ireton is currently the MAYOR of this City. Why would I complain about him not being at school, he's a part time teacher now, as he should have been all along.

The Mayor's job is to be at these such events and not traveling across the country supporting Obama.

You liberals always want a way out. You always want to point the finger at people like me who call him out. Face it, Jim Ireton has done NOTHING for the City of Salisbury. He has proven once again he has no interest in the Salisbury Police and protecting our citizens. Better yet, after the front end fell of that car the other day, he doesn't even care about our Officer's safety.

If Jim Ireton isn't the center of attention he wants nothing to do with it, period.

That's poor leadership and YOU are an enabler.

  4. It's a shame that Mr. Moses wasn't notified that he canceled last minute.

  5. 5:57 the only reason Delmar is hiring an officer is because the Maryland side is funding the position 100%. The Delmar, Delaware leadership has no interest in adding more officers. Oh they talk a good game but when it was time to vote they unanimously said NO! So if you are in Delmar please say thanks or no thanks to the right people.

  6. IMHO Ireton is a very poor leader. I have watched his tantrums during open public discourse - and it is not something that one ordinarily does when he/she has a disagreement.

On a personal note - I have a suspicion that his mannerisms and public outburst might be caused by an extra X chromosome.

  7. That IDIOT needs to step down as the temp mayor and let a real man step up.

  8. DE is more democratic than MD and thinks nothing is wrong. DE will hire more state troopers though. DE needs that revenue from traffic citations.

  9. Ireton was probably too busy with the Daily Times crew plotting their next hatchet article on the city council. I have never seen one newspaper out such one-sided attack pieces as this one does.

  10. Delmar Delaware won't get up off their asses and do the right thing. You need more than one new officer. Your streets are full of crime. The drugs are everywhere. Most people we stop in Salisbury with drugs are FROM Delmar. Your police department doesn't have the manpower to shut them down. Soon your East St., Chestnut Manor, Et Al, will be like Church St., Records St. etcetera, in Salisbury. Make your choice Delmar. Either way you choose, the results are yours.

  11. Mr. Albero your people posting are touching on some serious stuff about Delmar. I live in Delmar and one of my neighbors has two kids who are addicted to pain pills. They are buying them from people here in Delmar. Some people who sell pills are from one of the low income projects and some live houses on pennsavania avenue. Can you please please please start letting this council know what is going on in our town? About three weeks ago I noticed a big increase in people visiting committing crimes like selling drugs.

  12. In Response to 10:28

We have got bigger fish to fry than addiction to pain pills. Today I saw several men dressed as women walking near Wawa on South Salisbury Blvd.

I thought Rehoboth had big problems - that was until today. I tend to agree with 7:21 & 9:13 - we need some real men to finally step-up to the plate. That is why I will be looking for change in leadship come April.

  13. Sheriff Lewis is a REAL man! Joe if your elected Mayor please let him help you clean up the thugs in this city!

  14. Joe had not thought Lewis a real man for quite some time. Glad to see Joe's thoughts have changed because I have always felt Mike was good at his job.

  15. Let's get something very clear here. Mike and I do not see eye to eye on certain issues. I never said Mike was not good at his job. I'm not going to rehash what happened in the past. Mike simply did a fantastic job yesterday and when someone does a good job I, (unlike others) recognize that fact and express it here on Salisbury News.

That being said, IF Jim Ireton was and or has been doing a good job I would express that as well. Usually my titles say, giving credit where credit is due, if you'll recall.

  16. What kind of mayor is he to be a NO-SHOW at a graduation, cant wait until he is GONE.

  17. I hope the new police officers remember that the pt mayor was a no show if and when he should ever get pulled over, just saying.

  18. WWM=WORLDS WORST MAYOR.

I also live in Delmar, and yes I have seen drug activity as well, but I have found talking one on one with the mayor or a select few of the council members, you will get the,"I will take care of it" speach that seems to get brushed under the carpet. If you want results, you have to address these issues in the council meetings, that way they have to address it. The second opt. would be to call Deputy Mayor Wells, Commissioner Ring or Commissioner Gibb, these three care about the future of Delmar. The Mayor is using our town as a stepping stone to further his self in politics and commissioner Luffman, well we wont even go there. Don't use the Town Manager as a opt. She tends to put issues on the back burner as well, she is the largest waste of money Delmar has! I hope this was helpful.

  20. Our mayor is a complete idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wonder how many times the mayor is a no show for the school year?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I disagree 9:45. I think the entire MD side is trying to make the town a better place. The DE side could care less.

  23. Delmar, De claims they are too poor to be able to afford expenses for things they need. Why don't you ask the De. elected officials why they recently turned down free money? They probably thought no one would ever find out about that. Maybe they don't even know if town hall found out and didn't tell them about it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Delmar, De wants to have more officers. We can't afford them. Our cops aren't even paid enough. They deserve better pay but we can't afford it. If we could we would but we can't. If people would come to the council meetings and show us how we can afford it we would do it. We don't want to wait until something happens in our school but right now we can't afford it.

Mayor Anderton with out a doubt will go further as a politician and possibly make it a career be thankful that we have such a person at the head of our town, Carl is a good guy and put the best interest of the town first.

Commissioner Luffman also does a great job take some time talk to him you will see he also has the best interest of the town first, to think he doesn't take his job to heart is just crazy and you dont see what he does you are just assuming he don't. I can say that the Maryland Council works as a team and a good team at that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Commissioners Luffman, Ring, Gibbs, Deputy Mator Wells, and Mayor Anderton are doing the best they can for Delmar. Delmar, De has to do its share. But it's not. How bad will the crime have to get before they do whats right. They should be hiring 6 more cops but then who would come and work there for what they pay. Hell even Salisbury pays 10,000 dollars a year more now than Delmar cops get.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Delaware part of Delmar never has carried itself. Maryland always have to give them money to pay there bills. I always think that as bad as this is in Delmar you don't see much about it on this blog. Only in the comments part of it. Only if the people knew really how bad things are in Delmar with crime and all and that Maryland is trying to do something but Delaware doesn't care people would be mad.

  28. 8:24
You can't afford them because your tax rates and assessments are archaic. You could afford a new police officer if you really wanted to put your family and property first. I'd have to ask, if Delmar, MD contributes 60% and you only have to contribute 40%, what excuse would you give?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Who cares if Mayor Anderton is planning on later furthering his politial career? Do you want someone to stay forever? The reason MD is finding it so hard to forge new ground is because the old regime let things go for so long. Delaware has the mentality "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Sadly, they can't see that everything is broke now.
