Escape Is Now Open For Business On The Downtown Plaza

Hello Joe,

I wanted to share with you that I’ve discovered an awesome new restaurant. It’s called Escape, and it’s located on the Downtown Plaza in Salisbury. I met a friend there for lunch recently, and we enjoyed the absolute best food either of us have had lately. The prices were great, and the portions were generous. The one possible sticking point would be parking, but the main city parking lot has two hours for free. You’d just need to go through either the Gallery Building or the Plaza Gateway Building to get to the Plaza itself. This restaurant is located in the space of what used to be the City Bistro.

I understand that they have live entertainment on the weekends, and since tonight is the Third Friday they’ve got a special jazz ensemble from 5-8 p.m.
Please pass the word.

  1. I also have eaten at Escape and it was GREAT! The food is definitely a step above and the price was reasonable. It is an owner hands on operation. I am hopeful that people will patronize it so that we will continue to have a nice place to enjoy downtown.

  5. I hope the weather holds out for the 3rd Friday tonight. That has always been enjoyable time, just to walk around (safely)the plaza, like in the olden days. I hope lots of people take advantage of this. We surely plan to.

  6. I'd like to take my family and support a local restaurant; just concerned about our safety in downtown Salisbury.

  8. This place will never last. Salisbury is a buisness killer! Very bad location down there. As soon as everyone that works in that area has had enough then the buisness is done. Know one knows where this place is, and futher more who would want to park that far. I wish it the best, but I really don't see it making it past a year..maybe two.

  9. It kills me to drive down town Salisbury. Its a perfect location and has the possibility to be such a great place. If it wasn't for the City of Salisbury. No businesses can survive in this dreaded place.

  10. 2:51 I hope you're wrong but history says you're probably right.
The Plaza is the coolest part of town, and without the fear of crime it would be a wonderful place to have a business. Like the new barber shop and the people who've opened this nice restaurant, there's real risk that people won't go to there because they fear for their safety. That's so sad. Without the traffic created by business, those buildings will quickly go to seed.
If we really care for that beautiful and historic part of our city, we need to make special effort to try to give them our business. AND, it will keep those other busiensses in town honest by giving them a literal run for their money. Win-win.

  11. Their prices are too high or perhaps their concept is too expensive. Either way, with people out of work and the legion of people clinging to their retail jobs caused by the north Salisbury growth (read: $7/hr jobs). Average people around here just can't afford to drop $15 for soft shell crabs while praying their date goes for the $10 salad.

How about a good, affordable place to eat downtown. You know, serve more people so you can make less off of each dish instead of the reverse. How about opening a recession-friendly eatery?

  12. Breaded green beans? $14.99 and $13.99 are a bit expensive. Anything in the $7 or $8 range? I understand the high cost of food but have something Dif than seafood which drives up the cost.

  13. Anonymous 2:51, how do you explain the extreme success of Flavors Italian Grill located walking distance away from Escape. How about Uptown Chef or Sushi De Kanpai? These places have excellent food and are doing great.
