Britons across the country kneel on their doorsteps

Hundreds of Britons stepped outside their doorsteps last night to 'take the knee' and demand justice for the American police killing of George Floyd that is provoking increasing global anger.

Families, children and emergency services across the country showed their support for the Black Lives Matter movement by standing outside their homes and places of work at 6pm yesterday in solidarity with protesters in the U.S.

The campaign, which was created by Stand up to Racism, comes as demonstrations continue to increase around the world after George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man, died after police officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on his neck in Minneapolis on May 25 for nine minutes.

As the clock struck 6pm last night, families across the nation emerged from their homes to kneel on their streets and show their support for the campaign sweeping across the world.

CDC confirms Hogan Moving too slow

Rep. Andy Harris, M.D.
We have to follow the science as we re-open. That’s why I asked the CDC Director at a Congressional hearing today if there is anything in CDC re-opening guidelines that would stop indoor seating at restaurants once a state reaches CDC “Phase 2” (equivalent to Maryland “Stage Two”) gating thresholds. The Governor announced we had reached that yesterday. Dr. Redfield simply said no, there isn’t. It’s time to re-open ALL businesses in Maryland Stage Two. There is no scientific reason not to.

Update as of June 3rd 2020:

We were hoping to get some information regarding indoor restaurant operations as Maryland moves into stage 2 of the Maryland Road to Recovery program. Unfortunately Governor Larry Hogan's executive order prohibiting indoor dining remains in effect and we remain closed at this time.

We hope to see you all as soon as the State of Maryland allows.

Herring Point, beaches at Cape Henlopen State Park closed to surfing, swimming due to possible shark bite

12-year-old boy transported to local hospital with bite mark

DNREC officials have closed Herring Point to surfing and swimming Thursday afternoon until further notice following a biting incident reported just before 1 p.m. Beach goers are also restricted to knee-deep waters around the Cape Henlopen bathhouse.

A 12-year-old boy surfing off Herring Point sustained puncture wounds to one of his legs and was transported by ambulance to Beebe Hospital in Lewes. While initially reported as a shark bite, the appearance of the bite mark is being reviewed by state and fisheries experts to determine if it was from a shark or potential other creature.

DNREC Natural Resource Police Park Rangers and lifeguards are patrolling the beach area to warn surfers and other beachgoers to stay in shallow water.

Shark attacks are rare. The only known shark bite at a Delaware State Park beach occurred in June 2014.

‘Glad He’s Gone’ — Donald Trump Calls Gen. Jim Mattis ‘World’s Most Overrated General’

President Donald Trump reacted to a statement from Gen. Jim Mattis after his former Secretary of Defense criticized his leadership.

“Probably the only thing Barack Obama and I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General,” Trump wrote.

It's Time To Start Raising Hell In Maryland

This is Downtown Annapolis, TONIGHT. One of Maryland’s largest cities. Their longest and biggest downtown street closed to car traffic and wide open for pedestrians and outdoor dining. This is precisely what our Governor asked us to do during these “unprecedented” times.

But YET, here in Cambridge, a few members of our city council based out of an abundance of caution from the fire chief, and during a council meeting on Monday, totally and completely PUNTED on the simple issue of closing our smallest street in town - you know the one - Poplar Street. It’s the street that has one of Maryland’s signature breweries - RAR Brewing - it has a French Bistro that is renowned throughout the state Bistro Poplar - it has Jimmie & Sook's, an anchor of our dowtown; and it has Ava's Pizzeria & Wine Bar Cambridge- to name a few. ALL of these restaurants and their employees are suffering!

If Annapolis can somehow figure out how to manage fire response time and public safety in the very heart of our state capitol in their historic downtown on a long multi street block, then we can certainly find a way to close a street that is shorter than a soccer field. FOR god’s sake we even installed overhead lighting to make it beautiful last year! - the solution is staring at us in the face! And we can also close part of RaceStreet to temporarily accommodate Canvasback and Black Water Bakery and Blue Ruin

We are suffering from a lack of imagination and an overabunadance of uneccessary caution in our City government! Our city is failing us when they could use this as our finest hour. We have come too far as a downtown to watch it all fail and come crumbling down. Our restaurant owners and their hundreds of employees are depending on us to do something and we keep kicking the can down the road!!!

Enough is enough! The line must be drawn here! PLEASE EMAIL each and every city council member (go to www.choosecambridge.com) and DEMAND that they start closing the streets to allow outdoor seating. NOW. Raise hell! Before it is too late and we lose everything we have all built together!

‘Outraged’ NYPD Chief Blasts Governor Cuomo For ‘Sitting In His Office’ Bashing Cops While They’re Out There ‘Giving Their Blood’

NYPD Chief Terence Monahan spoke out on Tuesday to blast New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for attacking New York City police officers for not defending the city from protests and riots over the death of George Floyd.

Governor Cuomo had placed the blame for the out-of-control riots squarely on the shoulders of the police, calling their inability to stop the violence a “disgrace.”

Chief Monahan fired back by pointing out that his officers are “giving their blood” to protect the city against violence. “Our guys are tired, they’re bleeding,” Monahan told the New York Post.

“I think everyone you’re going to see is walking around cut up. But they’re out there again tonight. They’re out there giving their blood to keep this city safe.”

“I’m extremely outraged at the governor’s comments,” he added. “I’m watching my men and women out there dealing with stuff that no cop should ever have to deal with — bricks, bottles, rocks, hit in the face with bottles — and continuing to go forward to make an arrest.”

Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association

What a disappointment to not even acknowledge tourism or the restaurant industry Governor Larry Hogan restaurants, tourism economic engines of Maryland, not to mention our only job base. Our business community hangs on a thread weekly for the slow trickle of information, or lack thereof - salt in the wound. Visitors are going to DE and VA.....tax dollars gone.
-
Dear Governor Hogan,

Thank you for the thorough planning during this crisis and for taking the necessary proactive measures to protect Marylander's health. While the economy is in the midst of a RECESSION, the travel industry is in a DEPRESSION. On behalf of the Ocean City hospitality businesses, I feel I must make a final attempt at saving our community. The sensationalized media portrayal of Ocean City tourism has been unfair, I certainly would not want it influencing any re-opening decision making. Please allow me to opine on the reality of life in Ocean City. The Memorial Day weekend Reuters photo (see attached) which was circulated on many media platforms inaccurately depicted the activity in Ocean City. Through the use of compression and telephoto lens, the photo made it look like visitors were on top of one another, however, there was plenty of social distancing over the last couple of weekends. Additionally, in the most recent New York Times now being circulated through other newspapers, the reporter never contacted any official person, or the business whose photograph was used. Media sensationalism is ruining our country.

Tourism is our city’s only economic engine, and those businesses trickle down to the plumbers, electricians and so forth. While I realize your Roadmap to Recovery is a guiding document and not based on a calendar, I firmly believe that without a summer season, the number of bankrupt families and suicides will be alarming. Isolation and economic upheaval caused by the coronavirus pandemic are already resulting in a sharp spike in people seeking mental health help.

Tourism’s core values are to make people feel welcome, comfortable and safe. The nature of our industry has always been to embrace challenges and persevere in stormy weather. Our protocols are in place, we need to open other activities and indoor dining or we will continue to force visitors to choose other destinations and/or crowd those businesses that are open.

Back in April, given our seasonality, we knew we had to take a proactive approach the minute the pandemic hit. We created an Ocean City Recovery team to develop our own guidelines on how we could safely re-open for our employees and visitors. This team includes private business owners, our health community, Mayor Meehan and government staff. Through collaboration, protocols are in place; I’m sure you’ve seen those outlined in Senator Carozza’s detailed memo.

‘We Were Crushed’ | Annapolis Restaurant Owners Disappointed With Gov. Hogan’s Decision To Keep Indoor Dining Closed

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Gov. Larry Hogan’s Phase Two of the Maryland Roadmap to Recovery Plan does not include the opening of indoor dining at restaurants, but they can continue to offer outdoor dining or curbside pick.

In Annapolis, Main street, Maryland avenue, West Street and Market Place were closed to cars so that people can dine outside and still practice social distancing.

“What you’re seeing right now has never happened in downtown Annapolis,” Brian Bolter, Co-Owner of Red Red Wine Bar, said.

The Shoots family said this has been a long-time coming.

“First time we’ve been here in two months, so it feels like it’s brand new,” the family said.

Many people turned out to grab a bite to eat Wednesday, as they sat outside and enjoyed some live music. But restaurant owners said they want customers to keep in mind this only serves about 20 to 25 percent of its business.

“We were crushed today that the governor didn’t come out and give us limited capacity indoor seating,” Bolter said. “We all thought that was part of Phase Two.”

LA mayor cuts $150m from cops’ budget and gives it to communities of color instead – declaring he is committed to ‘making this moment not just a moment’

The mayor of Los Angeles has vowed to cut $150million from the city's police budget and redirecting it to communities of color.

Thousands took to the streets in both Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles yesterday, where Mayor Eric Garcetti vowed to redirect $150million toward black community health and education from the Los Angeles Police Department's budget.

Garcetti took a knee while praying with faith leaders at one protest outside police headquarters early yesterday. However, later in the day, hundreds gathered outside the mayor's house to demonstrate.

During a press conference, Garcetti said he was 'committed to making this moment not just a moment. It is time to move our rhetoric towards action to end racism in our city.'

Update On J1's In Ocean City

Yesterday I sat in a meeting with someone directly connected to J1 Students. I asked why so many of them weren't coming to America and they replied with the following fact.

1. The students are being told THERE ARE NO JOBS.
2. They're being told they have to quarantine for 2 weeks. (LIE)
3. Business Loss Insurance.

So there are the three main reasons we are not seeing these kinds arriving. There are more HONEST companies who are picking up on some of these kids only after they find and call these companies, (one of which we happen to be dealing with) where they are told the TRUTH, not the above lies. I can honestly tell you I can find jobs for a good 450 students and that too is a fact.

So when someone tells you a different story for political gain, it's BS! If I had more rooms I'd be in great shape. We happen to be 100% full as of next week. The 172 students staying with us ALL have jobs. They quarantined in their country, therefore they do not have to quarantine here and shame on the other companies claiming "business loss insurance" simply because they don't want to work.

Lesbian mayor blames 'white men' for 'violence and destruction' at riots

They 'experience height of privilege and are co-opting peaceful demonstrations'

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan asserted Sunday night that “white men” are responsible for much of the widespread destruction across the country during protests against the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after an officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes.

“I want to acknowledge that much of the violence and destruction, both here in Seattle and across the country, has been instigated and perpetuated by white men,” she wrote Sunday night on Twitter, adding that they “experience the height of privilege and are co-opting peaceful demonstrations.”
