DNC Changes Debate Rules to Exclude Only Woman in Race

The Democratic National Committee has changed its presidential debate qualifications to exclude Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii), the only remaining female and minority candidate in the race.

Under the newly announced rules for the March 15 CNN/Univision debate, candidates must have at least 20 percent of the awarded pledged delegates in order to qualify. In every debate since February's Iowa caucus, any candidate who received even a single delegate automatically qualified for the debate. Gabbard won two delegates on Super Tuesday by placing second in her native American Samoa.

Elderly white male candidates Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have already locked up the required delegates, but the rule change makes it nearly impossible for Gabbard to qualify, even with a strong showing in the next round of primaries. The congresswoman needs 335 more delegates to lock up 20 percent by March 15, but only 352 are up for grabs on March 10.

Troopers Arrest Delmar Man for Domestic Related Attempted Murder – Bridgeville

Bridgeville, Delaware – The Delaware State Police have arrested Daniel W. King, 56 of Delmar, Delaware on multiple felony charges stemming from a domestic-related stabbing that occurred Saturday during the early morning hours.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 1:12 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, as troopers were dispatched to a residence on Wilson Farm Road, Bridgeville for a break-in and serious assault. It was reported, Daniel King, the ex-boyfriend had broken into the victim’s residence and began assaulting her with a metal pipe. King then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began stabbing her while she attempted to call 9-1-1. Troopers arrived on scene and located the suspect in the residence where he was taken into custody without incident. The victim was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to a local area hospital for her serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.
Troopers took Daniel W. King into custody without incident. He was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with the following:
  • Attempted to Commit Murder First Degree
  • Two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Burglary First Degree – Occupied Dwelling Cause Physical Injury
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Criminal Mischief Over $1000 Recklessly Damage Property
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child Committed a Crime Child Witnessed by Sight and Sound
Daniel W. King was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $215,000.00 cash bond.

Missouri man sentenced to 19 years for plotting ISIS attack in US

A Missouri man was sentenced to 19 years behind bars for attempting to assist the Islamic State in attacking the United States.

Robert Lorenzo Hester Jr., 28, was sentenced Wednesday after he pleaded guilty in September 2019. He believed he was attempting to provide material support to the terrorist organization from October 2016 to February 2017 but was actually communicating with undercover FBI agents.

"Law enforcement engaged Hester to see if he was truly committed to an act of terrorism, and his responses left no doubt that he was," the Department of Justice said.

University of Illinois student government offering 'buyback' for 'racist' merchandise featuring former mascot

The University of Illinois student government is giving students the opportunity to sell back their clothes featuring the school's “racist” former mascot.

“Help remove outdated and racist imagery from campus!” read a recent Facebook post by the Illinois Student Government, referring to clothing depicting "Chief Illiniwek." “Exchange your former mascot clothing for brand new, official Illinois merchandise at any of the locations listed above, while supplies last!”

The post goes on to state that the student government is “proud to partner” with the Native American and Indigenous Students Organization in the buyback effort.

At the end of last year, the Senate passed a bill that suddenly feels very ironic: the Security for Supreme Court Justices Act. With the country so divided, both parties seemed concerned the justices didn't have enough protection. Four months later, who could have dreamed the people they needed protection from were the Senate's own members?

Before Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stood on the Supreme Court steps and threatened two men inside, he voted for that bill. Then, in a moment that revealed the nature of the abortion debate itself, Senator Schumer whipped into a euphoric rant for abortion rights and proved exactly why additional security was necessary when he issued this sinister warning. "I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won't know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."

Around the country, a stunned silence seemed to fall. Even the media was taken aback, shocked by the implications of Schumer's threat. Statement Regarding Potential COVID-19 Exposure Risk at Conservative Political Action Conference

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Earlier today, the New Jersey Department of Health notified the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) that a person confirmed to have Coronavirus Disease 2019, or COVID-19, was in Maryland from February 27-March 1 attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor. Those who attended or worked at the conference may be at some risk for acquiring COVID-19.

MDH immediately notified the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the governor’s office notified officials at the White House and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Immediately after learning of this individual’s interactions in our state, we began coordinating with the White House, the CDC and federal officials, the New Jersey Department of Health, Prince George’s County officials, and conference organizers,” said Governor Hogan. “Due to the scale of this conference, we are urging attendees who are experiencing flu-like symptoms to immediately reach out to their health care provider. We are providing this update not to unnecessarily raise alarm, but in the interest of full transparency and out of an abundance of caution.”

MDH recommends that members of the public who attended this event monitor themselves for symptoms of a respiratory infection including fever, cold-like symptoms, cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.

Persons who attended this event should check their temperature twice a day and notify their health care provider and local health department if their temperature exceeds 100.4 or if they develop a respiratory illness. They should remain at home until they receive instructions about next steps from their health care provider or local health department.

Maryland residents who have questions about this information are encouraged to contact 2-1-1 to talk to a helpline representative.

Woman arrested for carving "white pride" into sidewalk at business in Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A woman has been charged with vandalism under $1,000 after authorities say she used a rock to carve "white pride" into the sidewalk at a Johnson City business.

According to the release, 41-year-old Mahagany Teague vandalized the DC Fitness on Bobby Hicks Highway in Johnson City.

Authorities say she was arrested on Tuesday and has been booked into the Washington County Detention Center. She's being held on a $1,000 bond.

Study Says Phony Headlines Hardly Impacted 2016 Election

The year 2015 feels like a lifetime ago for many Americans. No bill in Annapolis this year generated as much attention as House Bill 1628.

The bill from House Majority Leader Eric Luedtke proposed the largest tax increase in Maryland state history. A 1 percent decrease in the sales tax was coupled with an enormous expansion of the sales tax to more than 80 services not already covered by the sales tax. The bill was expected to generate more than $2.9 billion in income.

Luedtke’s radical tax hike made Gov. Martin O’Malley and his run of 40 consecutive tax hikes look like amateur hour

But in an unusual display of bipartisan cooperation on tax policy, the bill was unanimously defeated in a House Ways and Means subcommittee late Wednesday night.

Rehoboth Beach Man Sentenced to 111 Months in Federal Prison for Gun and Drug Charges Copy


WILMINGTON, Del. – Chief U.S. District Judge Leonard P. Stark sentenced Michael Henry, a 40 year-old Rehoboth Beach resident, to 111 months in prison for possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, Henry was on probation following a 2017 State of Delaware sexual assault conviction. Because Henry had been twice convicted of federal gun-possession charges, he was prohibited from possessing any firearm.

On February 12, 2019, Henry’s state probation officers learned that Henry was violating his probation by carrying a gun and selling drugs. On the basis of that information, the probation officers searched Henry’s vehicle and residence. As they were conducting the search, law enforcement located Henry hiding underneath a mattress. Dispersed throughout the residence and vehicle, the officers discovered more than 333 grams of cocaine, 14 grams of marijuana, digital scales used to weigh drugs, and several “trap” soda cans—cans with a hidden compartment used to conceal contraband. Concealed between the box springs and the mattress where Henry was hiding, the officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun. Henry confessed that he had been selling the drugs since October 2018.

David C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, commented on the sentence: “Despite having been convicted twice of federal gun charges, and despite being on active probation, this defendant chose to deal drugs while illegally possessing a firearm. Defendant couldn’t hide his person; couldn’t hide his drugs; and couldn’t hide his gun. The message is clear—if you possess a gun and sell drugs we will find you and you will go to jail for a long time.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Delaware State Police, and the Delaware Department of Probation and Parole participated in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Howland prosecuted the case.

Record GOP voting enthusiasm breaks pattern, topping Democrats

Voting enthusiasm among Republicans is at a record high, significantly over 2016, when Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton, and even higher than for Democrats, according to a new survey out Friday.

Gallup said that the GOP's 64% enthusiasm at this stage of the election is higher than “any election since Gallup first measured this in 2000.”

Significantly, it breaks the recent pattern of the party not in the White House having higher voter enthusiasm in a reelection year. Currently, 58% of Democratic voters are enthusiastic, a 6-point gap with the GOP.

Hollywood celebrities took to social media to mourn the departure of Sen. Elizabeth Warren from the 2020 presidential race.

“I am grieving,” actress Ashley Judd posted on Twitter after news broke that Warren was dropping out from the presidential race following a poor Super Tuesday performance.

Report: Iran Arrests Man for Photographing Piles of Coronavirus Victim Bodies

Reports out of Iran indicate that police apprehended an unnamed man this week after a video surfaced showing piles of corpses, presumably of Chinese coronavirus victims, at a mortuary in Qom, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Following the publication of the video on social media, multiple reports have corroborated evidence that Iran is experiencing an extremely high coronavirus death rate, potentially much higher than the official government numbers. CNN published a report Thursday similarly relaying the dire images of piles of bodies too large for government health workers to know what to do with and confirming that Iranian state media admitted the video was real.

The Saudi news outlet Al-Arabiya reported the arrest of the unnamed man on Wednesday, citing Iran International TV. It did not offer any details regarding if the man was indeed arrested in Qom or where Iranian police took him, as Iran admitted to freeing tens of thousands of prisoners this week in an attempt to prevent a pandemic within the prison system.

Coronavirus panic is intensifying across Australia with supermarket shelves being stripped bare as further cases are confirmed and an expert issued a terrifying warning nearly 100,000 locals could die if the crisis deepens.

Six more people tested positive to COVID-19 in New South Wales on Tuesday, including Australia's second case of human-to-human transmission. A new case in Victoria on Wednesday brought the number of infected in Australia to 41.

In addition, an Australian university student was rushed to hospital for testing.

Former Reserve Bank of Australia board member Warwick McKibbin said a global pandemic could wipe out 68 million people worldwide, including 96,000 Australians.

Missing toddler's remains believed to be found in Tennessee

Remains believed to be that of Evelyn Mae Boswell, a 15-month-old girl, were found in Tennessee, ending a 17-day search across three states for the missing toddler, authorities said. At a press conference Friday night, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Sullivan County Sheriff's Office said they believe they found the remains of the girl earlier that evening.

An Amber Alert was issued more than two weeks ago, but authorities have said she hadn't been seen since at least December.

"This is certainly not the update we had hoped to provide this evening," TBI spokeswoman Leslie Earhart said.

House Republicans Push Meaningful Education Reform

ANNAPOLIS, MD – March 7, 2020 - Members of the House Minority Caucus yesterday offered a series of amendments to improve legislation implementing the Kirwan Commission recommendations (HB 1300). Over the course of almost three hours of debate, caucus members offered fourteen amendments covering a wide variety of issues.

Included in the amendments was a measure requiring a pause in the program if academic outcomes did not improve by at least 25% in five years.

“It is my hope that this bill succeeds and we do not have to take this step,” said Chief Deputy Minority Whip Jason Buckel. I hope the advocates are right and this works, but if it doesn’t, we need a mechanism to ensure meaningful accountability.”

Trump says government will withhold federal funding to sanctuary cities

President Trump on Thursday said the government will begin holding back funds for sanctuary cities – like New York – following a federal appeals court decision last month.

“As per recent Federal Court ruling, the Federal Government will be withholding funds from Sanctuary Cities,” Trump tweeted. “They should change their status and go non-Sanctuary. Do not protect criminals!”

The US Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled on Feb. 26 that the government can withhold millions in dollars in law enforcement grants to cities and states that do not give US Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to jails and alert the agency when an illegal immigrant is being released.

The decision overturned a lower court ruling ordering the administration to release the funds.

House Approves Kirwan Recommendations; Funding Debate Continues

The House of Delegates on Friday night approved the education reforms outlined by the Kirwan Commission, but not a way to pay for them.

The 96-41 vote gives Democrats enough votes to override a possible veto from Gov. Larry Hogan.

The bill implements the 10 years of recommendations to improve schools, including higher teacher salaries, expanded pre-K and various curriculum changes.

It also requires the state to pick up a greater share of the cost for Baltimore City and Prince George’s County.

Major crime soars by 22% in New York City as police blame new bail reforms that mean suspects can avoid jail and re-offend

New York City saw a big increase in crime last month compared to the same period in 2019.

Major crimes grew 22.5% in February according to the NYPD with a 7.1% increase in shootings. robbery, assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto crimes.

Murders, however, fell some 20% with 20 people killed in the Big Apple during February. Rape cases also decreased with 125 rapes reported in February 2020 and 133 in February 2019.

Police are blaming recent criminal justice reforms for the rise in crime, according to Fox5.

Ilhan Omar: American power derived from racism and history 'built on the oppression of black bodies'

Rep. Ilhan Omar said people in the United States need to accept that their country’s power comes from racism and that its history is “built on the oppression of black bodies.”

“From slavery to Jim Crow to redlining to mass incarceration to voter suppression, racism is part of the foundation of American power,” the Minnesota Democrat said Thursday during a panel discussion on Capitol Hill.

“Our task as organizers is not only to all out the specific incidences of racism,” she added. “It is to recognize that our history is built on the oppression of black bodies.”

New York City sees surge in major crime

Newly released statistics show a big jump in crime last month compared to a year ago.

The NYPD says major crimes grew 22.5% in February compared to the same month last year including a 7.1% increase in shootings. Robbery, assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto crimes all saw increases.

The only positive statistic related to murders, which were down 20%. Only 20 people were killed in New York City in February according to the NYPD.

Police officials blame criminal justice reforms for the uptick in crime.

The NYPD says that in the first 58 days of 2020, 482 individuals who had already been arrested for committing a felony such as robbery or burglary were rearrested for committing an additional 846 crimes. Officials say that all of the suspects were arrested for offenses that, prior to bail reform, could have landed them in jail.
