"I Would Literally Do Any Other Job Right Now" - Workers Are Leaving The Restaurant Industry In Droves

Gina Restivo has held virtually every restaurant job during her 30 years in the industry. Dishwasher, cook, host, bartender, server. But, after being exposed to COVID-19 while working as the general manager of a high-volume restaurant in Ocean City, Md., Restivo put in her resignation and is currently looking for jobs in other industries.

“I’m considering really anything,” Restivo said. “I would literally do any job right now that is not working in a restaurant.”

After self-quarantining in her back bedroom, away from her boyfriend, following her exposure at work, Restivo tested negative, she said. But 13 cases have so far been tied back to her former restaurant, she said. “People who are not in the industry don’t realize the instances you could have contracted this in a single day,” she said. “Something as small as the sink handle where everyone washes their hands, or touching people’s dirty silverware or dirty dishes in the bus tub. You’re also dealing with people who are racing around.”

  1. It’s a shame to not have foreign workers, now we’re stuck with the ANTIFA/BLM losers handling our food ... I’ll just eat at home

  2. I’m so glad everyone who is either back at work (restaurant employees) or being expected to go back to work (teachers) are now suddenly realizing the risk (which is also debatable) in going back to work, and how much they feel their lives are valued. How much do you value the supply chain workers who kept the shelves as stocked as possible with the things you wanted and needed while sitting home the last 5 months?

  3. But did she actually get sick?

Or just test positive for a coronavirus (common cold).

  9. After 30 years it sounds more like you are looking for something to blame for your "burn out". There are germs everywhere so good luck with that.

  10. Very true, but that is how all viruses spread genius!!! You morons put on gloves and masks, and they carry the virus and you go touching everything, spreading everywhere, when you don't realize that the gloves you wear are not sanitized before re-touching anything else!!!! I see it at chick-fil-a all the time... I am not bashing them or anyone, I am just saying it is commons sense that wearing gloves spreads the virus, and the only people wearing gloves are people who are sick maybe, have open wounds on your haves or band-aids and the normal stuff... Besides, at some point everyone is going to get it, Period!!! I see people forced to stand in line at aldi grouped together waiting to get inside as they let 10 at a time in... One person goes, and one person enters... They don't sanitize anything before or after each person comes or goes inside, so what the hell is the point of only doing 10 at a time? And all the while force everyone outside to stand in a line together??? And what sense does it make to wear a mask in some places where people take them off to eat and drink and smoke??? If you can smell things through your mask or piece of cloth, guess what genius??? You got particles in your face, IE same goes for a virus, you morons!!!! Read the side of the box of the masks, it says it will not protect you in a viral situation!!! You need respirator style masks, and filters N99 or P100 due to the size of the influenza virus covid is, and becasue it can ride on dust, and water and moisture and all that.. Then, that is on top of lets say guys or are unshaven and you don't have a seal around your face with a surgical mask... No one does... And you think it helps and particles come in from one side or the other, wide open... You people lost all of your commons sense, and it is troubling... I mean the level of stupid is beyond comprehension!!!

  12. Unless a person is sick, they probably don't have it. The tests aren't accurate.

  15. Walmart wants people, some disabled, some old, have to walk the extra half mile to the one door you are allowed to go in, and then have to come back out? Whose Einstein idea was that anyway? Makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.
