Alaska Stand in OC is CLOSED

We are closed!... we have had more than enough this weekend dealing with a whole new level of disrespect to our staff, our business and our town and we are tired of being the brunt of undeserved verbal abuse by the public when ordering and picking up... we will regroup and try again... get it together OC ... we apologize to our beloved and well mannered customers, we cherish and appreciate you to no end.

  1. Such a shame. I hear the local OC city council says that this is "normal" behavior this time of year. Crazy.

    1. What the General Public does not know is the following. The mayor has asked for several things to be done. Such as putting fire trucks on the boardwalk. Asked for the Natonal guard, that was rejected because they are sread out around .Other things to stop this b*******. Your State's Attorney has shut them down because of legal issues. They don't want to hurt the poor little looters and scumbags.Do you rely think he wants his town torn apart? And for you low IQ hours that's a rhetorical question.

    2. I've been going to OC for 50 years and I'm sorry to say it's getting worse every year. The hotel prices are outrageous. The boardwalk and beach isn't kept clean like it was years ago. I loved OC and it was my only relaxation. All the places that were great eating places are gone. Now everything that is being built are condo's. It use to be a family place now it caters much more to the younger singles and they wonder why there's so many issue . Their driving the families away.

    5. Didn't those who raised you ever teach you manner's.? If you can't say anything nice say nothing at all. What make's you so perfect you can critisize other's.

    6. Lectures about spelling, grammar, and not criticizing?? Really?!? Are you really missing the point?? OC businesses are going to move out one by one. The town is going to lose revenue. Families will be fewer and fewer. Residents will move away. What will be left? A dirty, nasty beach where people do not want to play or live. There will be boarded up businesses, and drunks and syringes under the boardwalk. You may not have to worry about shark attacks in OC, but that doesn't make it safe.

      Delete
    7. No ... If someone chooses not to do business here, someone else will ... The town won't lose any revenue ... Perhaps it should lose revenue to learn a lesson about pimping yourself out to capitalists ...

    1. I agree. We went for 25 years, faithfully and stopped 5 years ago because of the outrageous price gauging and all the rules and regulations. We now vacation on other beautiful and clean beaches at half the cost with flying and car rental.

They haven't said that at all. Stop getting your "facts" from social media. I am not a fan of the mayor and most of the council but the out and out lies being spread about them is disgusting.

    1. I call BS! The Mayor is saying exactly this! Ask anyone in City Hall.

      Delete
    2. The Mayor was referring to the usual June Bugs - recent grads that cause problems during the first part of June each summer.
However, these are not your run of the mill “problems.” We all know exactly who is doing the fighting on the boardwalk...we’ve all seen the videos.
I’ve been visiting OC for 50 years and I’ve never been afraid to walk around - day or night - until recently.
OC better get a handle on these “visitors” or the real money will start staying at other ocean resort towns.
      😠

    3. Vigilante justice is needed if the city does not respond. These dirt bag visitors causing this need to understand actions have consequences and they need to be held accountable.

    4. I agree.. It is a mess.. Don't blame the 2020 Graduates. They already got screwed out of there graduation & the mess down OC IS UNACCEPTABLE!! Visited for 20 years & no more

      Delete
    5. My friend, "the new normal" is the unwashed masses being informed by memes on the internet ... The veracity ,integrity & credibility of a statement are of no concern to about 27% of the population... The effectiveness of the smear is all that matters to them ... They crave validation & emotional satisfaction ... They'll crown a trust fund baby that will give it to them ... This is the "newspeak" Orwell spoke of ... Now, when you get passed 20% of the population buying fascism , that society is in an irreversible decline ...It's founding values & ideas will never recover ...

    2. Yes, a society of free men need to be wherever they want without a police state enforcing your dim witted notions of right & wrong ...

When did Americans become so unAmerican ???

      Delete
    3. A curfew you said, Comrade. Are you also going to make people march down the boardwalk now instead of walk? Just how many freedoms is one willing to forfeit due to a hysterical society?

      Delete
    4. I agree no curfew.

If regular Americans want OC back for night time enjoyment and relaxation, then they will have to physically take it back. Thugs own it at night. If we want it back at night (I don’t) we have to take it back.

The OC Police have made it clear that they will not protect citizens at night on the beach and boardwalk.

Eventually the businesses will close at night of course. But then the peace and quiet if the ocean waves at night will be unreachable because of the danger.

It’s only a matter of time until someone gets killed on camera and then tourists will stop coming in droves. The mayor and council will just look at each other and say, “It’s not our fault.”

    1. Most of the businesses in OC are now fronts for money laundering. Only the longest established most well known businesses (Thrashers, Fishers, Alaska Stand, Dumsers, ect) have survived the skyrocketing rents being paid by the money launderers. The people running the town are the same ones collecting these skyrocketing rents as well as 1% cut of all "sales" through taxation. The money launderers will continue to post ridiculous "profits" even if no one shows up and the last of the generational businesses will fail. Oh well. The people running that town will still get their $. Looks like we are going to have a very active hurricane season. Hopefully it washes the place away.

  9. This is what you get when you people are cowards and willingly accept socialism!!!! You as a business owner have an obligation to fight for our rights just as much as anyone else... REMEMBER We customers are what make your business and businesses to begins with, SO IF WE GET FED UP AND TIRED OF YOUR cowardice, then we will let you know of it... This is what it takes now, you cowards are to sissified, lazy, fat, stupid, Uneducated salves and didn't care, but now you care right??? When ti affects your money right???? You people are part of the problem, just going along to get along, thinking these orders are legal and lawful, which they are not!!! So in order to get you sick of this crap as much as we are, we will make your life a living hell to!! Just like I have been saying for years how to fix this police abuse and corruption... All you have to do is affect the very people doing this, and they will stop, and if not you go deeper and do it to them and their families, eventually someone will get sick of it enough to tell those pieces of shit to stop being pieces of shit, it is affected everyone now not just them!!! This sis what it takes for people to wake up and fight back, when they are bothered and when it his their pocket!!!!

You business owners don't have to follow these suggestions, but you do as if they are laws, and so you are at fault and part of the problem, so if you don't like what the f' your customers are giving you or saying to you, then continue to be the coward you are and close, or man the f' up and open up and fight back!!!! You all wanted socialism, what's the matter, why don't you like it now all of a sudden???

  10. This is sad especially when it can be corrected. FUND the police and un/cuff them. They have the balls to do the job, they want to do the job, but you know and they know their hands are cuffed by their own equipment and superiors. It would take very little effort to bring the country under control if government would act with a full brain. Do they need reminding what their number one job task is that they are charged with? I won’t insult your intelligence by saying what it is because you already know. And we know our “official's” or so called leaders have failed to do so. It’s not going to be pretty if we the people have to do their jobs.

I couldn't believe how many people were smoking weed on the boardwalk. Now I'm very pro legalization but there is a time and place for it. I saw kids hanging their butts out of cars and throwing things out of it. Now we all did stupid crap as teenagers, but there is a point of ridiculous here.

The ignorance also abounded on the boardwalk. I went into two stores and walked back to my car on the sidewalk.

I've chaperoned many JuneBug senior weeks of my niece and nephews the last 7 years. This year has been exceptionally strange because the usual activities were unavailable. 48. I went to Bull on the beach on 94th st Friday night to get carry out and the bar was packed standing room only. What happened to the 50 percent rule? Just like the rest of OC. Disgusting

  49. My 15 year old son and I were in OC last week. Unknown to us it was senior week. The kids were out of control. They were so disrespectful and unruly. The police were called to the hotel we were staying at 2 of the 3 nights we were there. We went to the outlets on Wednesday to escape the madness but we read that a young couple was attacked in the parking lot there the next day for no reason. So glad my son recognized all this bad behavior and said next time we will go to a quieter and safer beach. Now I remember why I stopped visiting OC years ago.

  52. The officials and residents have become self centered arrogant and too big for their wn good first they kicked out the motorcycle rally now they kicked out the car rally and now they are picking on small businesses over this virus. Too many laws and rules in O.C. just not worth the hassle and B/S, to visit this smug summer resort of me not you.

  53. What's happening to OC? This place was one of my favorite getaway spots, but with all the hatred, animosity, ignorance and "partisan" politics being spewed in these comments, not to mention the uncontrolled environment currently going on in OC, I might have to find a new getaway...

Shame on those who have turned an otherwise nice vacation spot into a place of such chaos and unrest!

America needs to "get it together" and stop with the anger, hate, prejudice and divisiveness or ALL businesses and the entire world will disintegrate!! What we as a people have allowed ourselves to evolve into is SHAMEFUL!!!!!!

  54. Our family with young children will not be visiting OC this summer because of this turmoil.

  55. I love OC but this is ridiculous. Take a stand do something don't allow this shit! A group of disrespectful out of control media seeking scum should not be tolerated at a family vacation place. Line the boardwalk with police get tough and lay down the damn law ! You will continue to lose money if you don't handle this immediately. We don't need this trash in Ocean City. Wake up !

  56. OC needs to take the lead from other resort towns that implement rules and regulations (and enforcement) to keep undesirables out. Make it hard for them to come. For years we've been making it easier and easier. Soon all the families will be gone and we'll be Atlantic City.

  57. I've been going to OC for over 30 years, some years more than four times, it is now a disgrace, what there calling June bug is bullshit, it all summer, the only good week is bike week, because bikers don't put up with this kind of shit, yes I ride a Harley, but I'm not a biker, yes we get a little rowdy at times, but we don't disrespect store owners, we support them, not destroy them, what you don't see about bikers, the morning after they helping to clean up the event locations, maybe they should have bikers as the council, Mayor, and police dept. Instead these immature, rich, snotnosed brats who have no respect for anything or anybody, I've seen college punks in apt. above the Boardwalk yelling at people, taunting people, even throwing water balloons, there real tough from up there, if I go one vacation now I travel a little further to Virginia Beach or OBX, Ocean city has seen my last dollar until they take out the reach, city council, Mayor and rich punks !

  59. Enjoyed a nice week, last week, right on the boardwalk and 11th. Only issue I really saw was some childish antics at the hotel next door, but, then, it WAS 'Senior Week'.
I'm sick of everything being politicized, and everyone taking sides, as if we were at a football game. We're all on the same team, just have varying opinions.
Wish everyone could just be civil - live and let live.

  60. My wife and I were on the boardwalk on Sunday. We hadn't been there for a few years and on the board walk we saw very little social distancing. We observed people being disrespectful to people who were wearing mask's. They said oh you must have the virus because your wearing a mask.We went to Tony's pizza and people in line to wait for a seat were very rude to the staff. They were a younger age group. They said it sucked to have to wait for a seat and the virus was hyped up by fake news. I felt sorry for the hostess as in the short time we were in line she contantly took verbal hits. At that point we observed enough and left. Also there wasn't much police presence at all but they may have been spread out.

  61. Too bad, we stay in North OC, and do not visit the bosrdwalk area any more. OC needs more police and enforcement, especially for the businesses. The young culture has changed, and in some cases folks are not socially attuned and disrespectful.

  64. I’ve been there many years for senior week and have never had any problems. Maybe some of u people should get the stick out of ur ass and let these kids enjoy themselves. Most of them have worked hard to be where they are so let them enjoy it. Go somewhere else and be miserable.

  66. "There will be boarded up businesses, and drunks and syringes under the boardwalk. You may not have to worry about shark attacks in OC, but that doesn't make it safe."

Calm down please. Yes OCMD had a really bad week last week. These are unusual times. People have been cooped up in their homes since March. Everything was closed. Graduations cancelled. Safe and Sane events turned virtual. And then we've just had 2 weeks of social riots.

You have to keep things in perspective. Yes there was a brawl on the Boardwalk. Police came out in force. No businesses got looted or burned in OC. No one died. There are cities across the US that are dealing with far worse unrest and devastation right now.

The weather turned cold and windy. That should help send people home. Atlantic Stand has reopened.

JuneBug season has always drawn a young rowdy crowd. Usually they are controlled with the Safe and Sane events. COVID messed with that as it did everything. I've been chaperoning Senior Weeks for years now. I knew this one would be very different. This will be a hard summer for businesses in OCMD. Normal crowds and their revenue will not be allowed. But it's not a permanent situation. If anything this teaches us how important this little Beach town is to those of us who live and visit here. Be kind to the local business workers. Give them a little extra tip if you can afford it. Be nice and make them smile.

  71. We use to love going to Ocean City, every year for many years. But it changed. Prices went up and the place got dirty and full of drunk and disorderly. Last year 2019 people werw throwing objects at people below including myself from a high balcony at night at the hotel we stayed at. I was almost hit w a hair dryer. We'll never go back. Its a shame.

  72. O the good old days. Walking down the boards listening to top 40 music. The smell of thrashers French fries. Popcorn. Running into everyone back home. Going in Marty's playroom. Then the good old days of a road trip at 2am drunk just to sleep on the beach to wake up to get Tony's Pizza. I could go on and on. It sickens me that I will never take my grandson. O and for all u people who want to criticize go right ahead I have a 2 year old on my lap.

  74. OC use to be a great place to visit. I had reservations at an Airbnb ocean front through Long and Foster, scheduled the exact dates that the mayor shut down the city for the Covid-19 virus. I made the reservations last yr way before the pandemic broke out. Paid my deposit and then I get a message that they'll be closed the exact dates of my vacation, also verified that I was eligible for a full refund of my deposit. That was back in March and I still haven't received my refund, I've contacted Long and Foster, The Town of Ocean City, The Mayor of Ocean City and the Better Business Bureau and still have not received any thing other than I'm working on it. How can you be working on getting my refund back when the City was on mandatory shut down. Then Long and Foster said that they were talking to the owner in lieu of getting my refund, what is there to discuss, just refund me my deposit. They also recommended that I reschedule to a later date .I'm in GA and I cant just change my vacation at a drop of a dime so just refund my deposit. Any recommendations on how I can get my full refund back.

  76. Bayman, you've obviously missed multiple news stories. Hoodlums beating and stabbing people. I feel badly for the business owners. I like how this stand is taking a stand, someone has to. Local gov't saying it's normal behavior for this time of year?! Trying to make it look like it's the kids going for senior week. Nope, try again, OC has been growing ghetto for years. It's horrible. I don't even go anymore, and it used to be one of my favorite places, for over 30 years. It'll cost you $2500. For a week rental and you have to pay food, entertainment, etc on top of that, no thanks, our family will drive to NC or take an all-inclusive trip somewhere.

  77. It happens because WE let it happen. We step aside and complain that there is no police around. Just go up to these punks and knock them the hell out. Used to, people did not put up with such crap. Now we have turned into cowards and let these scum ruin our lives because we are afraid of doing anything. Those scum do what they do, because they believe that the people are afraid of them. Just gang together and stomp them. Go to City Hall and tell them of they will not do their job, you will. That you are tired of it and will not take it anymore. Tell them to put some plain clothes on the Boardwalk. Plus hire some security guards for the boardwalk. Have the business's ante up for security. As many business's as there are in O.C., It won't be much. Maybe a percentage of profits. It will not be as much as they will lose if this stuff keeps up and people begin to stop coming to O.C. because of the crime. Tell them no more slaps on the wrists. Time to get tough with the scum. Grow a pair or shut up.

  78. @ June 17, 2020 at 8:57 AM. If people were allowed to slap a young punk across his/her mouth for spouting off at someone, they would stop that crap. Used to be able to do that and parents had no problem with it. Till the crybabies complained about it.

  80. Maybe this will be the last word on this...
This sort of stuff happens EVERY year at this time. Yes, it has been ramped-up due to the situation in the US lately.
And every year people go nuts posting about the situation.
    You hear a lot about:
"It's cheaper to go to an all-inclusive resort."
Cheaper? Maybe. But do you really want to eat at the same location; drink at the same location for a week?
    Not me.
    You also hear:
"OC has priced itself out of the market."
Ridiculous. Why do you think there are so many rooms that are $350.00 a night and higher? Simply because people pay for them. It's called "Supply & Demand".
Ocean; bay; boardwalk; hundreds of restaurants; a hundred entertainment venues to choose from for all ages and all types of people; and the cleanest, safest beach on the East Coast.
The town of OC will go back to 'normal' soon. It always does.

According to my late Grandad, it went downhill about 60-some years ago.
Damn hippies. Those lawless, dirty, disrespectful, dope-smoking hippies that overran the town.
Nobody would ever want to come to this town again after seeing that, he would say.
