"A Police-Free Future" - Minneapolis City Council Votes To Abolish Police Department

Update (2100ET): Here is the somewhat unbelievable statement from the Minneapolis City Council describing their "veto-proof majority" plans to create a utopian "police-free future"..

1. Decades of police reform efforts have proved that the Minneapolis Police Department cannot be reformed, and will never be accountable for its actions.

2. We are here today to begin the process of ending the Minneapolis Police Department and creating new transformative model for cultivating safety in Minneapolis.

3. We recognize that we don't have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does. We're committing to engaging with every willing community member in the City of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you.

4. We'll be taking intermediate steps towards ending the MPD through the budget process and other policy and budget decisions over the coming weeks and months.

We cannot help but wonder if this is anything like what the constituents actually wanted as an outcome of the current racial-bias protestations.

As former AR Governor Mike Huckabee noted:

"I wish I had the U-Haul franchise in Minneapolis b/c all the same people will be bugging out to a place not run by loons and I could make a fortune renting one way trucks!"

And Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw summed things up perfectly:

"This is dangerous, counterproductive, and deeply irrational. “Defund the police” is not a call from the fringes of the far

  1. Who cares. More power to them. I support the protesters but I disagree with defunding police. With that said, this is decision made by freely and fairly elected local officials. More power to them. Hope they can find a workable solution.

  2. I see a mass exodus in the near future!
With no law enforcement, the animals will be running the zoo!
It will be like the wild west in the 1800's.

I also think that businesses will also be exiting the urban areas, not just in Minneapolis, but all over the country!

Then the hungry masses will be flooding into the country side to get your stuff! Just what the deep state wants.

It will force many of us in suburbia to take a stand and defend our homes from the coming mongrels!

  6. I think this is a great idea from the Democrats. Wicomico Democrats, I'm sure you would support this. If you are against the 2ND Amendment Sanctuary resolution supported by Sheriff Lewis, then there is no doubt
that the three Dems on the Wicomico Council would support getting rid of police. Just think, when you dial 911 you get Jake Day.

  11. considering its the politicians that have made everything possible under the sun a crime. It's time for a rethink. I've always wondered why there arent any citizen review boards. Should be mandatory for every jurisdiction city, county, state, federal. But until the political class that makes everything a crime is addressed nothing will change. cato did a report on this several years ago. Hell trimming your bushes became a federal crime in one florida county. total nonsense! focus on real crime!

  15. Wiki is saying 800 cops and 300 civilians for city of 400k plus population. Half a million service calls. IIRC about 15 resignations and 40 taking early retirement from cops. They will significant challenges with hiring. And there are several legal barriers prohibiting council from just scrapping the cops. But they will try.

  16. All of the Minneapolis cops should call out sick for a week. Let them see what their future holds.

  17. Salisbury has already turn the City over to gangs and drug dealers. The Police Dept is just there collecting a paycheck with benefits and possible outlandish retirement.

When Salisbury totally defunds the Police Dept then the County and State should not respond to any crime within Salisbury city limits. They are already stretched to thin to cover the county and state entities.

Let Salisbury burn to the ground and see what the homeboys will say about their stolen investments.

  18. They will regret this real quick first shootings, rapes and murders will be a disaster this really wasn't thought through. What are they going to do send in social workers for real #1 crimes? Will be a lot of social workers, and idiots getting shot---really dumb idea.

  20. when asked what would happen if there was a problem one speaker said you would call on your neughbor for help or call your pastor. My house is being robbed by armed men and I should call my neighbor for help. Right. So we both die. I see guns sales and houses for sale going up.

  21. It wouldn't be any loss if the SPD was disbanded. Nothing but a bunch of ill trained, school boys that think they are super cops. More like Keystone cops. Their fearless leader needs to be booted from there and she could go to work at Walmart or somewhere she is more suited for.
