Outside The Dayton VA Medical Center

  1. You know the Doctors, Nurses and first responders are all heroes in my book but what a lot of people including Gov. Hogan fail to realize is that the House Keepers, Maintenance, Dietary staff, IT Workers all work on the front lines.

This pay raise for MD employees goes out to a lot of positions but neglects the support roles as well.

Housekeepers have to go into these rooms that have infected patients and remove the soiled PPE along with other cleaning duties. Do they get the hazard raise ? Nope.

This temporary hazard pay should go to all employees that are considered Essential. By assigning these pay raises to positions rather than people designated Essential we see many who hold job roles that are purely administrative and have no contact with the patients who are getting this hazard pay and are very often teleworking from home while those who have to work in the patient rooms get nothing.

Just because you are a RN does not mean you are working on the front lines. You may be an administrator or supervisor RN who hasn't dealt with direct care in many years who will see this raise.

I think in the mad rush to dole out support funds there is very little thought in how the funds are to be distributed.

Not to pick on Nurses (god bless them) but to make my final point....Not all RN's are on the front lines but all employees designated Essential by the state ARE on the front lines. If you are listed as Essential and have to report into work no matter what you should get this raise.

    1. I agree with you 9:58, you are very much exposed to the virus also. I wouldn't want your job.

  3. They report to work within the midst of covid 19 in spite of being in at least one risk factor but probably more.
