LAUREL, Md. —Laurel police are looking for whoever ran over seagulls at a shopping center Saturday, killing at least 10 birds.
The act, which police said was intentional, drew strong reaction Monday from shoppers in the Laurel Plaza Shopping Center.
"I feel like it's disgusting. I feel like if you have the heart to do something like that, you went out of your way to do something like that, you're a pretty sick person," concerned citizen Amber Destefano said.
Police said Saturday morning, someone went into the Dollar Tree, bought pre-popped popcorn spread it in the parking lot to lure seagulls, then ran them over with a car.

ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHA!! Those seagulls are worthless birds anyway.
ReplyDeleteI lived just a few blocks from there a decade ago - I am not surprised - this area has been taken over by alot of "questionable" people. They have graduated from finding bodies in the parking lot to now birds. Sad.
ReplyDeleteThe kind of person who tortures other small animals and then becomes a serial killer.
ReplyDeletejust like certain classes of people, protected by the government and always looking for a handout!

Exactly, no law against killing rats or mice, these just fly
DeleteToo bad it wasn't at least 100 killed
DeleteA seagull is one of the most disgusting birds around. They steal your food and try to poop on everyone.
ReplyDeleteWe hear more about somebody killing seagulls than we hear about when a person gets murdered.

1:29 You are scum and likely the creep with no heart that did this. If you had to lure them to kill that many than you should serve time in a cell.

Flying Rats who cares? Just like pigeons, all are nasty.
ReplyDeleteWhen they find the scumbag he should sit down to a seagull dinner, compliments of the state.
ReplyDeleteI love animals and I don't find this wrong at all. They are even worse than geese.
ReplyDeleteDo you idiots bitch when someone fumigates a slumlord house in Ghetto'Bury to kill roaches?
Same ones crying bout vermin are the ones ok with killing babies!
ReplyDeletePeople bitch because they can. The day we lose that ability will be the day most snowflakes wake up and wonder WTH happened. It would then be too late and when they do open their mouth, someone will shut it.

You are correct. A lot of birds are protected. And guess what? If someone kills a protected bird, it is a felony. Know what that means? They now cannot own a firearm. Bet they didn't think about that.
Seagulls came under endangered species protection after bird populations began dropping to dangerous levels. Seagulls are migratory birds, and they nest in areas that are sometimes environmentally fragile. Seagulls are legally protected from harm in North America and parts of Europe.
Seagulls are grouped in with several other migratory bird species when it comes to their status as an endangered wildlife population. Like other migratory birds, gulls do their nesting in coastal regions and near lakes. Breeding grounds for migratory birds are fragile, which means that bird populations suffer the consequences when breeding areas are destroyed.
The downside of seagulls being a protected bird species is that there they are growing in numbers and becoming a nuisance in some populated areas. Gulls feed on aquatic life, carrion and leftover scraps of food wherever they find it. When the birds do not find an adequate supply of food at sea or coastal areas they often seek food in nearby towns and cities.
Because it is against the law to kill gulls, culling their ranks requires special legal permission. In order to protect the health and safety of people, some government organizations are using non-lethal and lethal solutions to reduce the gull population when needed.

Where is ATF when you need em
Lock Day up, Lock Day up
Different story: PHILADELPHIA — A judge convicted a longshoreman Monday of killing 189 seagulls that were roosting at a marine terminal and fined him the minimum $14,175 — or $75 per bird.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that seagulls will eat $1 a bag Dollar Tree popcorn from China. The again, seagulls will eat anything. They are disgusting birds and even a sailor will starve to death before trying to eat one. They are sea buzzards, and eating one will likely kill you. The only people, like that one, that kill them on purpose, do it for fun. Killing critters, any critters, just for fun is just a sick perversion.
