Attention Mardela Residents (5-26-19)

  1. Sludge storage in a residential area? Isn't it bad enough they allow Harcum to pump human waste into all the farmland surrounding everyone's homes now this. Nothing like catching a whiff of the S&H farms tanker truck full of human waste running the roads all summer

    1. A wise man said “it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt”. You have removed all doubt. Harcum and S & H Farms do NOT spread “human waste”. They spread sludge from local poultry plants which is within environmental rules and regulations. If you have a problem with it, complain to the Department of Environment. They are the ones who made it legal and permissible. Don’t bad mouth a local business who operates within the law and employs many local residents. I’m sure you employ many local residents and pay into the states coffers through numerous taxes and permit fees. Go back to mommy’s basement and eat another Hit Pocket while picking your nose.

    3. U don't care about human waste ? Post ur address I have something for u .....also this isn't about that it's about this was done on the down low.

    4. @10:16 you mean to tell me that Harcum didn't sign a 25 year agreement with the city of Philadelphia to haul all their treated waste and bring it down here adding water to it to use as a fertilizer for all the lower eastern shore? Going out and buying a 300,000 terrigator and looking for contract truckers to help him haul it out of Philadelphia? Think maybe I know a little bit more than you realize

      Delete
    5. 6:49...you do NOT know. If you do, please tell me “oh wise one”, when was the last time the Harcum’s hauled this “treated waste” from Philadelphia to the shore? It has been YEARS. This is a completely different issue. Don’t use this issue to complain about something that may have happened over 7 years ago but is no longer being done. You must be the same old geezer who sits around and complains about how a teacher spoke to you in elementary school 60 years ago. That part of your life, like the Philadelphia project, is done and over with. Move on. Quit living in the past. You can’t change that. Worry about the present and try to correct the misdeeds that are going on in front of you. Things that can actually be changed. Like this Biff Burns tank and the medical practice, that his wife used to commit fraud, thereby funding his outrageous land purchases and lavish lifestyle. Where is the FBI investigation? They raided the place, removed all files and made a big public production. Where is the case now?

  19. This project falls under MDA guidance not MDE.....It is a large investment on behalf the owner....I am not one to stop someone for making money I just think the location for this project needs to be altered. It needs to go somewhere off RTE 50 or a major road with adequate infrastructure...Not down country back roads that flood on a regular due to improper maintenance of ditches and have not been paved since the model t was put into production....However it was brought to our attention that Dorchester County denied the permits for the project.....One thing to note.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tried complaining to the EPA 10:16PM. Living in a rural area there are currently 15 poultry houses within a 1/2 mile radius of our residence. Admitedly all but four were there before me; now four more are planned right next to me. I complained about air and water pollution, noise pollution, property value, and the stress on the small country lane that would access the houses. I was told the farmers have the right to do business since it is zoned agricultural. I get that but at what point does it reach saturation?

    ReplyDelete
  21. He is getting away with it bc it's considered a BARN.

  22. Put it on Burns' or Harcum's property. Please, all locals do not buy a damn thing from Burns' place, Jack's Market. Burn him where it hurts. Bob Culver......shouldn't you be involved in this? How would you like it if they put it at Pirate's Wharf? This s**t has to stop. Getting by with this kind of thing because your name is Burns or Harcum must not be. I too, want to know why there was no public hearing on this. This is the first I have heard of it. People, do not let this happen. Who knows what will be next, or where. Could be in your back yard.

  23. Many people responding to this have never smelled this stuff before.it's actually smells worst than any human waste I've ever smelled. You have to follow the money on this. The Poultry Companies can save money because this is not treated just straight into the trucks. The waste includes fecal material chunks of chicken flesh and fat.You will never see any of this printed by any local news because-hey this is Perdue. And for any idiot that says I'm against farming, not true as half our income comes from a farm.I just would like to be able to enjoy my deck and have a few people over.

  26. First, the intersection of Porter Mill Rd and Riggin Rd is not near either Mardela or Hebron. It is in the middle of nowhere. It will likely not affect either town. There are only a couple of homes in that area and no doubt every spring and fall they have smelled that smell. I live near several of their farms and get hit with that odor and can deal with it. The only real concern is keeping it from accidentally spilling into Rewastico Creek which is in the area.
Drive out there and you can see where they are talking about. I was there yesterday and it is either forest or fields. It is a better location than the fields that they sold to the people for the chicken houses off of Naylor Mill Rd previously.

Just came back from the town council meeting the ISSUE is with the PLANNING COMMISSION who's rules are old out of date This is a INDUSTRIAL PROJECT being placed on AGRICULTURE land and once again the good ole boys doing things wink wink ....we love farmers but this should have went to the people even the county council agreed the AGG rules are old and outdated but as long as that farmer from Jack's Market makes millions he couldn't care less so much for being a good neighbor ? The BIG ISSUE is how the planning commission is NIT making the county council aware what's going on with permits especially big issues like this ...the farmer also has another property to which he could do this on and it's COMMERCIAL let's see if he does the right thing ./ Mr Cannon and the rest of the council seemed to be on our side ....I just hope the council doesn't put road weight restrictions on that road.

  38. It doesn't matter which local idiot you point out in the ongoing local circus, Biff,Harcum, DAY, Cannon etc. once the old timers that made this area a great place to live passed on these idiots sold their souls for the almighty dollar. There's no character or integrity in any of these clowns. It's all about who can brag about their successes or how they ride around in 80,000 SUV. Harcun has had free reign out there in western Wicomico county with the poison he's putting down as so called fertilizer. There's very few areas thatt don't have homes close by.

    1. I can answer that question. He has 23 BILLION dollars stashed away in several fire proof safes hidden in bunkers under his farm land. Trust me. I have seen it. He showed me one day because I couldn’t believe it. It is ALL in small unmarked bills. He has reinforced the bunkers with concrete. He had them built under the cover of darkness so no one would see. A family member built it. He was paid CASH. That way, there would be no snitches. He has several entrances and exits located throughout the woods and farm field that are concealed by hydraulic lifts. It’s a big operation. Osama Bin Laden could have hidden in there. This is FOR REAL.

This like everything else around here is shady as hell and it's time people stop tolerating the abuse of our region. These guys have NO clue what the long-term effects on something like this are. As you stated all they see are dollar signs and the corporations they deal with are rated to have it off their hands. 64. If Biff and Candy want this sh3t then let it be put right next to their house. and when i say right next to their house, i mean on the same lot that their house is on. 10 ft within the front door and by house i mean their main residence. Where they park their heads every night. Its bad enough that the shore has to deal with all the sh3t that is produced here but to import more in by the millions of gallons? Oh hell NO. You people in that area need to fight this and fight it hard. Speak now or forever hold your peace. If Dorchester county would not permit it then that speaks volumes in its self. You people on the county council and other agencies need to step up and put a stop to this for the sake of all of us here on the shore. 88. We need to keep this in front of the county council. People need to attend the meetings and voice their concerns!! I live in this area and my quality of life is going to be greatly impacted. Property values are going to plummet!!

  89. One of the concerns that the citizens have with this project is the impact on Riggin Road. It's a tar and chip road and couldn't withstand the constant traffic. Well, lo and behold Riggin Road is all of the sudden going to be paved with asphalt!! Why is this happening now?? Something smells here!!(no pun intended)
