Bay Bridge to begin cashless tolling on Thursdays, Fridays to reduce traffic during construction
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A nearly year long project to replace the deck surface of the Bay Bridge's right lane of the westbound span kicked off last week, resulting in brutal traffic and endless complaints.
Now the Maryland Transportation Authority says they're taking steps to relieve at least some of the congestion.
On Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 10 p.m., the Bay Bridge will go to a cashless toll system for the remainder of the project.
This means drivers without an E-Zpass will be allowed to go through the toll plaza without stopping, and instead be mailed a $4.00 bill.

Jake and the Council Made a Great Deal for Salisbury
In 2016, the City Council approved a plan by Salisbury Development Group to develop two waterfront parcels at the marina with a mix of commercial and residential units.
The developer was the lone bidder for the project on the city-owned lots, paying $1 to purchase one of the parcels and $1 per year to the lease the second over a 50-year term.
The marina will be the first project in the Salisbury area for David Perlmutter, a principal with the Salisbury Development Group, but he has development experience in Prince Georges County and in Seaford, where he is building the Residences at River Place along the Nanticoke River.

Hogan fires back at Olszewski over claims he's withholding $127 million in school construction funding
BALTIMORE (WMAR) — Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is firing back on claims by Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, that he's withholding $127 million in school construction funding.
On Thursday while speaking at the demolition site of the Baltimore City Detention Center, Hogan said the claims are untrue.
"We had a proposal for $2 billion in school construction, the largest in history, the County Executive failed to support it because he wanted the State to pay 100 percent of school construction instead of 50 percent," Hogan said.

‘Guilt by Accusation’: Alan Dershowitz to pen book denouncing the #MeToo movement
Alan Dershowitz, famous for his work as a criminal defense attorney, author, and legal commentator has taken on the #MeToo movement in his most recent book, slated for release later this year.
Dershowitz, 81, made headlines most recently when he was accused of having involvement in disgraced philanthropist Jeffrey Epstein's supposed sex trafficking and assault scheme. Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who says she became Epstein's sex slave as a teenager, claimed that she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz years ago. Though Dershowitz did represent Epstein as a client, he has flatly denied involvement in his supposed crimes.
"I have had sex with one woman since the day I met Jeffrey Epstein," Dershowitz said of his wife, Carolyn Cohen, in his own defense earlier this year. He also characterized their relationship as having a "perfect sex life."

Email exposes Bloomberg for misleading readers about reporter's hit job on Trump Department of Labor appointee
One of the most shameful and egregious media failures of the year has just gotten even worse for Bloomberg Law with the exposure of a new email showing that its reporter, along with the organization, dramatically misrepresented communications with the Department of Labor as part of a hit job that temporarily led to a Trump appointee's resignation.
Far from an innocent inquiry that reporter Ben Penn presented it as, an email obtained through the Freedom of Information Act shows he asked the department accusatory questions that were clearly an effort to get appointee Leif Olson fired by falsely smearing him as an anti-Semite. Penn, misrepresenting old Facebook posts, asked whether the department found Olson "fit for government service" and whether they were OK with senior employees who made "comments that were disparaging to Jews."
Last month, Bloomberg Law's Penn proudly tweeted out a "scoop" that Olson, who had recently started as an adviser in the department's Wage and Hour Division, had been forced to resign after the surfacing of Facebook posts that were described as anti-Semitic.

Situation At Somerset Intermediate School
Dr. John B. Gaddis, Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools
Please share!!! Please share!!!! Please share!!!
We have had a situation occur at Somerset Intermediate School that we want to make people aware of. A student in crisis fled the building and as the student fled a comment was made to some other students. The other students immediately told staff and emergency personnel was activated. The student was found and personal belongings were searched. A firearm was found and has been confiscated. The student and possessions are now in the possession of the Somerset County Sheriffs Department. We will keep everyone updated as needed but the school has been searched and no further issues found.
This is a scary situation for all of us and the investigation will continue. We felt the need to be transparent so everyone was aware and a robo call will be sent home.
I want to applaud those young students that did not hesitate to notify the administration and I thank all personnel from the school system and the Somerset County Sheriffs Dept for their quick and efficient response.i

Passport Services Now Offered At Centre
SALISBURY – A new service is expected to benefit patrons of Wicomico County’s library system.
On Sept. 9, the Wicomico Public Library began offering passport services at its Centre branch, located within the Centre at Salisbury.
There, patrons can apply for a new passport, renew an existing passport and take passport photos.
Sam Gibson, marketing and communications manager for the library, said the new service follows a growing trend to offer additional resources to library patrons.
“The library is a great hub for not only checking out books and online resources, but we also have things like fax and notary services,” he said. “This just adds to the things we already offer.”

The View host asks Maddow if she's 'part of the problem' in repeated 'cry wolf' against Trump
The View's Abby Huntsman asked MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow if she is "a part of the problem" with Democrats and certain media members who "cry wolf" against President Trump.
The topic arose while they were discussing House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff's comments about Trump and the impeachment inquiry. They specifically discussed Schiff's decision to read a fake copy of the president's controversial conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire's testimony in front of his committee last week.
"My frustration is that there has been a cry wolf for so long. This is it, this is the smoking gun. He’s out for two years now from Democrats, from some members of the media, that now you have people in this country that are, like, we don’t believe anything anymore. They’re shutting it off. They are not taking it as seriously as they should, and I ask you, do you think you’re part of that problem? Do you think that you have, —" Huntsman asked.

No, Teen Vogue, abortion is not 'popular'
Teen Vogue, the magazine that shut down its print operations after Hillary Clinton lost and Condé Nast realized it functioned as little more than toilet paper at a sorority social, has an interesting addition to "Across the Aisle," their article series attempting to document political divides. Abortion, the outlet says, is "popular."
"Abortion may have incredibly vocal opponents, but polling that’s been conducted since before abortion was legal shows that reproductive choice was and remains popular," Caitlin Cruz writes. "Maybe it’s time for the national media to treat abortion supporters as the loudest voices in the room."
To her credit, Cruz actually cites public opinion polls. Unfortunately, Cruz obviously doesn't know how to read them.

'Post Traumatic SLAVERY syndrome': Brandt Jean sparks social media battle after forgiving his brother's killer
After a video went viral showing a young Christian black man forgiving the former police officer who killed his brother, many praised the gracious act, but others questioned the move and wondered if the same would have occurred if their races were swapped.
Brandt Jean, 18, told former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger in court Wednesday that he forgave her for killing his unarmed brother, 26-year-old Botham Jean. Guygur maintained that she shot him when she walked into the wrong apartment, thinking it was her own, and though he was a burglar.
“I personally want the best for you," Brandt said after the jury sentenced Guygur to a 10-year prison sentence for murder. "I wasn't going to say this in front of my family, I don't even want you to go to jail. I want the best for you because I know that's exactly what Botham would want for you. Give your life to Christ. I think giving your life to Christ is the best thing Botham would want for you." Brandt then embraced Guygur, whose racist texts and social media posts had surfaced during the trial.

The Schiff Has Hit the Fan
The Democratic head of the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Adam B. Schiff of California, learned about the outlines of a C.I.A. officer’s concerns that President [Donald] Trump had abused his power days before the officer filed a whistle-blower complaint,” reports The New York Times in a blockbuster story that undermines what little credibility Schiff had left.
Schiff and his PR team at the Times are building his defense in this matter around the assertion that the congressman never met with the whistleblower. Schiff asserted numerous times before Wednesday that he did not know about the complaint before the inspector general of the intelligence community (IGIC) notified his committee. He asserted on Sept. 17, when news of the complaint first surfaced, “We have not spoken directly with the whistleblower.” And according to Schiff’s intelligence committee spokesman, “At no point did the committee review or receive the complaint in advance.”
Those smokescreen denials sound quite similar to the claims of the whistleblower’s attorney, Mark Zaid: “I can unequivocally state that neither any member of the legal team nor the whistleblower has ever met or spoken with Congressman Schiff about this matter.”
Thanks to the Times, however, we now know this is a lie. And by Schiff’s spokesperson’s own admission, the congressman’s office referred the whistleblower to the IGIC.

WCSO Press Release - Oct. 2 Bennett HS Bomb Threat
Incident: Bomb Threat
Date of Incident: 2 October 2019
Location: James M. Bennett High School, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Female Juvenile, 13, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 2 October 2019 at 9:20 AM, the staff at James M. Bennett High School received a bomb threat to the school via a telephone call. The threat initiated a law enforcement response from the Sheriff’s Office and allied agencies who checked the building for possible threats along with the deployment of explosive detection K9s. No explosive device was located on the premises.
During the ensuing investigation, deputies focused on the call that came into the school office and were able to obtain information that identified the location where the call originated. Deputies responded to that location and located a 13-year-old juvenile that attends a different school in the county. During questioning this juvenile ultimately confessed to her involvement with making the call.
The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. Following consultation with the Department of Juvenile Services, the juvenile involved in this case was detained in the Lower Shore Children’s Center in Salisbury.
Charges: Threat of Mass Violence
The Party of 'Impeach!'
The Democrats’ purported outrage about President Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky might be taken seriously by the Republicans were it not for the Democrats’ drive to oust Trump from the moment he won the presidency.
CNN’s Van Jones, with zero proof, attributed Trump’s victory to “whitelash.” Trump received 57% of the white vote, actually a lower percentage of the white vote than the 59% received by Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate in 2012. In 2008, Democrat Barack Obama received a greater percentage of the white vote than John Kerry did four years earlier. Obama also received 95% of the black vote. None dared call it “blacklash.”
Stunned, angry and bewildered by Trump’s win, some Democrats urged the Electoral College to refuse to certify his victory. In a Washington Post op-ed, John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, said, “The (Obama) administration should brief members of the electoral college on the extent and manner of Russia’s interference in our election before they vote on Dec. 19 (2016).”

Speaker Pelosi: Trump 'Scared' Of Impeachment Inquiry
(WASHINGTON) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that President Donald Trump is “scared” of the impeachment inquiry she launched last week centered on a whistleblower complaint alleging he pressured Ukraine to help investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and interfere in the 2020 presidential election.
“I think the president knows the argument that can be made against him, and he’s scared,” Pelosi, D-Calif., told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in an interview in her ceremonial office in the U.S. Capitol to be broadcast Thursday morning on Good Morning America.
“And so he’s trying to divert attention from that to where [he’s] standing in the way of legislation,” she said.
Shortly before Pelosi sat for the interview with Stephanopoulos, the president dismissed the inquiry with an expletive and tweeted advice to Democrats to choose “a better candidate” than Hillary Clinton in 2020.
"The Do Nothing Democrats should be focused on building up our Country, not wasting everyone’s time and energy on [B***S***], which is what they have been doing ever since I got overwhelmingly elected in 2016, 223-306," Trump tweeted, referring to the electoral vote. "Get a better candidate this time, you’ll need it!"

Google Says Google Translate Can’t Replace Human Translators. Cautions Users - Including Governments - Not To Rely On It.
It’s a common internet experience: throw a foreign phrase into Google Translate or any other online translation tool and out comes a farcical approximation of the real thing.
That’s why many experts — even Google itself — caution against relying on the popular Google Translate for complex tasks. Google advises users that its machine translation service is not “intended to replace human translators.”
Yet the U.S. government has decided that Google Translate and other machine translation tools are appropriate for one task: helping to decide whether refugees should be allowed into the United States.

Mosby Disputes Gov. Hogan Claim She Never Reached Out About Violent Crime
Gov. Larry Hogan denied Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby's recent comments that her office tried to contact his in recent months.
Mosby said last month her office had worked for months to contact Hogan's office before the governor directed Attorney General Brian Frosh to prosecute violent crime in Baltimore.
"Marilyn Mosby has never actually asked for a meeting with me about the crime in the city," Hogan told reporters after a press conference marking the start of demolition on the old Baltimore City Detention Center. "I never made any critical comments about the state's attorney at all. I did just say we wanted to back her up and provide as much assistance as we could."
For her part, Mosby maintained her side of the story was accurate.
