Attorney General Frosh Sends Letter to FAA Regarding Proposed Flight Changes at Reagan National Airport

Attorney General Frosh Sends Letter to FAA Regarding Proposed Flight Changes at Reagan National Airport

BALTIMORE, MD (May 30, 2019) – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator Daniel Elwell after the agency announced proposed changes to flight paths for incoming and outgoing planes on Runway 19 at Reagan National Airport.

“I am deeply troubled by the lack of transparency by the FAA. This proposal looks like it will cause more noise and disruption over residential areas already besieged by flights from the FAA’s last round of concentration of flight paths. This last minute announcement about flight path changes at Reagan National Airport was presented without discussion or opportunity for public input.”

“The area likely affected by this proposal contains parks, historic sites, residential areas, and other sensitive and protected areas. This proposal by the FAA fuels concerns by my office that changes to flight paths are being made without required environmental review and without public participation and input. It is absolutely necessary that the FAA provide Marylanders access and opportunity to review the proposal and provide feedback about its impact on Maryland communities and our environment.”

Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Largest Group Ever Encountered

WASHINGTON – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Paso Sector apprehended the largest group of illegal aliens ever encountered early Wednesday morning. Agents took custody of 1,036 people after they illegally crossed the border in El Paso, Texas, shortly after 4 a.m., MDT.

The group crossed the Rio Grande and were immediately taken into custody by Border Patrol agents south of downtown El Paso, between Bridge of the Americas and Stanton Street Bridge.

“The apprehension of 1,036 individuals in a single group – the largest group ever encountered by Border Patrol agents – demonstrates the severity of the border security and humanitarian crisis at our Southwest border,” said CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez. “The dedicated men and women of CBP, and in particular the U.S Border Patrol, are doing their very best every day to address the influx of family units and unaccompanied children.”

All members of the group were from Guatemala, Honduras, or El Salvador. The group included 934 family members, 63 unaccompanied minors, and 39 single adults. They were taken into custody for processing and initial medical screenings. They will remain in U.S. Border Patrol custody until they are processed accordingly.

El Paso Sector agents have previously encountered the largest groups so far – of over 400 - on at least two recent occasions. The most recent was on Memorial Day, when agents apprehended a group of 430 people.

The group of 1,036, comprised mostly family units and unaccompanied children, adds to the more than 530,000 aliens apprehended or encountered at ports of entry on the Southwest border so far this fiscal year. The El Paso Sector continues to set record numbers as the situation escalates.

Robust Economy Means Fewer Workers Claiming Disability

The economy may still have some hurdles to overcome in terms of the trade challenges with China, but President Donald Trump is pushing a lot of the right buttons and millions of Americans are better off now than they were three years ago. NPR, of all places, has the latest good news story:
During and after the Great Recession, people turned to disability rolls in large numbers to make ends meet. This accelerated what had been going on for a generation, as the federal government’s disability insurance program saw steady growth.

But now, for the first time in decades, the disability rolls are shrinking. More people with disabilities are returning to work and holding on to their jobs. With unemployment at a nearly 50-year low, companies are struggling to find workers. And that means people who had trouble finding a job in the past are suddenly in demand. That includes people with disabilities. …

CUBS Player In Tears After His Line-Drive Foul Strikes 4-Year-Old Girl

Chicago Cubs player Albert Almora Jr. hit a hard line-drive foul into the stands at Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros, striking a child.

Almora Jr. was visibly distraught after the fourth-inning hit in Minute Maid Park in Houston.

He immediately put his hands on his head and took a couple of steps toward the seats. He then fell to his knees near home plate and was consoled by teammate Jason Heyward and manager Joe Maddon.

It took several minutes for Almora, who appeared to be crying, to compose himself and continue the at-bat, and players from both teams also appeared shaken up by the scene.

Following the fourth inning, Almora, who still appeared upset, approached a security guard in the stands near where the girl was sitting and spoke to the guard before the two embraced.

Several media reports indicate the child is recovering well.

Attorney General Frosh Files Charges Against Opioid Manufacturer Purdue Pharma and Related Entities

BALTIMORE, MD (May 30, 2019) - Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced today that his office has filed charges against opioid manufacturers Purdue Pharma, L.P., Rhodes Pharmaceuticals, and related entities, alleging the companies engaged in a scheme to market prescription opioids through unfair and deceptive trade practices.  Purdue manufactures MS Contin, Dilaudid, Butrans, Hysingla, and OxyContin, among others, while Rhodes manufactures generic opioids.  The alleged scheme involves marketing opioid for use far in excess of any medical need, leading hundreds of thousands of Marylanders to become addicted to prescription opioids and thousands to die from opioid overdoses.

The new charges follow charges filed last week against members of the Sackler family who owned, directed, and controlled Purdue and Rhodes and their opioid sales and marketing practices.  According to the charges, Purdue and the Sacklers conducted an orchestrated marketing scheme designed to mislead Maryland healthcare providers, patients, insurers, officials, and others about the benefits of opioids generally and Purdue opioids specifically, while downplaying their risks, which include opioid-induced hyperalgesia (or worsening of pain), addiction, and death.  The State alleges, among other things, the unfair and deceptive marketing campaigns included misleading prescribers that patients would not become addicted by telling them that common symptoms associated with addiction - such as misrepresenting pain symptoms and using illicit drugs like cocaine and heroin - were merely signs of “pseudoaddiction” that could be addressed by increasing doses - and Purdue’s profits.  According to the Statement of Charges, in making sales calls, Purdue ignored warning signs of problematic prescribing by Maryland prescribers, calling upon pain management clinics that Purdue knew or had reason to know were not engaged in practices that could not be justified as serving their patients’ legitimate medical need.  Purdue even allegedly recruited problem prescribers as speakers, paying them to promote Purdue’s opioids even after becoming aware of problematic prescribing.

“The charges describe a pattern of deception designed to sell life-threatening medicines without regard to the risk posed to the patients who consumed them,” said Attorney General Frosh.  “We allege that Purdue and its related entities inflicted devastating harm, and in many cases irreversible harm, on patients and their families.”

The Statement of Charges seeks an order restraining Purdue and Rhodes from further violations of the State’s Consumer Protection Act, monetary penalties for each violation, and disgorgement of all revenue the companies received from unlawful conduct.

Opioid Crisis Impact in Maryland
According to the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), opioid-related fatalities increased in 2017 for the seventh year in a row, reaching an all-time high of 2,009 deaths. This represents an increase of nearly 300% since 2010, when there were 504 reported opioid-related deaths. Because not all opioid-related deaths are detected, these figures likely understate the real numbers. For the first nine months of 2018, which is the most recent data for which the MDH has final statistics, the number of opioid-related deaths in Maryland once again climbed, with 1,648 deaths reported from January through September 2018, compared to 1,502 during the same period in 2017. Maryland ranks among the top five states for the highest rates of opioid-related overdose deaths.

VIDEO: Money Trail from Foreign Oligarchs to Hunter Biden Bank Accounts Exposed

Best-selling author Peter Schweizer explains the foreign influence peddling scandal engulfing Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign in a new video series produced by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI).

Schweizer, who is the president of GAI, explains in the video the key findings from his 2018 bestselling book Secret Empires regarding the financial deals Hunter Biden’s private equity firm secured in Ukraine and China while his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, was negotiating U.S. foreign policy with those countries.

“New documents shed light on just how much money [foreign] oligarchs were sending to the Biden family while he was vice president,” Schweizer states in the video. “We have a glimpse of this not because the Biden family has disclosed it, but because documents that came out in a court case offer access to financial records involving Hunter Biden.”

“By looking at just this one account, we know what was flowing into the account and what was flowing out while Joe Biden was vice president,” he continued.

Governor Hogan Calls For Investigation Over Handling of Adenovirus Outbreak at University of Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today sent a letter to the University System of Maryland Board of Regents calling for an immediate investigation into the handling of the adenovirus outbreak on the University of Maryland, College Park campus that led to the tragic death of Olivia Paregol. The letter comes after a Washington Post article outlines a timeline of events following the first diagnosis, showing that campus leadership waited 18 days to disclose information about the virus to the student body.

“According to published reports, university officials chose not to disclose confirmed and suspected cases of adenovirus to students and families,” wrote Governor Hogan. “Just as, if not more disturbing, is the revelation the university held on to this potentially life-saving information for weeks.”

Following the tragic death of Jordan McNair and the subsequent investigation conducted by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, the governor assured the people of Maryland that his administration would hold the university’s leadership accountable for the reforms necessary to ensure student safety is always the top priority at College Park and throughout the system.

“Mr. McNair’s death rightfully prompted multiple investigations and brought to light numerous inadequacies in how the university dealt with a medical emergency,” the governor said. “Unfortunately, I am deeply concerned that the University learned nothing from that troubling and tragic episode.”

Governor Hogan also highlighted the lack of urgency throughout the process, saying while caution is sometimes understandable and called for, common sense should never be overruled by bureaucratic protocol when lives are on the line.

The governor concluded his letter by calling for any findings to be made public: “A thorough investigation into the handling of the adenovirus information—including a review of the university’s health center—is necessary. It will provide the context and facts needed to move forward. If any officials are found to have been negligent, it is vital that you take swift action.”

Cher won't apologize for implying she wants Donald Trump to be sexually assaulted in prison in deleted tweet

Cher admitted that a tweet in which she implied she wanted Donald Trump to be sexually assaulted in prison went a bit too far.

The 73-year-old singer is never shy about posting her unfiltered thoughts on Donald Trump and the Republican party. Cher was one of the slew of celebrities calling for the president’s impeachment in the wake of Robert Mueller’s first public statement about the Russia investigation. However, she removed a tweet that she later claimed was a little much.

According to Yahoo Celebrity, the Oscar-winner wrote in a since-deleted tweet that she would love to see Trump thrown out of office, locked in jail and “Toy Boy Big Bubba.” The line seemed to suggest that she wanted to see the president assaulted.

Federal Rats Are Fleeing the Sinking Collusion Ship

The entire Trump-Russia collusion narrative was always implausible.

One, the Washington swamp of fixers such as Paul Manafort and John and Tony Podesta was mostly bipartisan and predated Trump.

Two, the Trump administration's Russia policies were far tougher on Vladimir Putin than were those of Barack Obama. Trump confronted Russia in Syria, upped defense spending, increased sanctions and kept the price of oil down through massive new U.S. energy production. He did not engineer a Russian "reset" or get caught on a hot mic offering a self-interested hiatus in tensions with Russia in order to help his own re-election bid.

Three, Russia has a long history of trying to warp U.S. elections that both predated Trump and earned only prior lukewarm pushback from the Obama administration.

Poll: Opposition to Eliminating Electoral College Grows

Opposition to the Electoral College has been a growing movement for some time, but Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, despite her besting him in the national popular vote, has seemingly rejuvenated efforts by the movement to get states to agree to give their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote instead of the winner in their state. According to National Popular Vote, fifteen states (all blue states) have already passed such bills, with nine other states having had one legislative chamber pass it. The National Popular Vote Compact will only take effect when it has been enacted by enough states to accumulate 270 or more electoral votes. By their count, they need 81 more votes.

While this is troubling to people who respect the Constitution and understand the importance of the Electoral College, there is a glimmer of hope. According to a Rasmussen poll released Tuesday, “most Americans still understand the reason the Founding Fathers established the Electoral College and are increasingly opposed to efforts to get rid of it.”

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters still favor eliminating the Electoral College so that whoever wins a majority of the popular voter wins the election. Nearly as many (43%) are now opposed. Eleven percent (11%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Support for eliminating the Electoral College is unchanged from last October but down from a high of 56% in November 2012. Opposition has grown steadily from 25% when Rasmussen Reports first asked this question nearly seven years ago.

USA POWERLIFTING SUMS UP THE TRANSGENDER ATHLETE DISPUTE IN ONE PARAGRAPH

USA Powerlifting makes a pointed defense on its website against critics who say the federation’s policy of barring biological men from women’s competitions is discriminatory.

A paragraph in the “Q and A” section of its statement on transgender policy makes their line of thinking clear — sports are by definition discriminatory, and the transgender policies they are enforcing are rooted in a desire for fair play, not hate.

“While the term discrimination is used to catch the attention of the public, it is often misused,” the paragraph reads. “We are a sports organization with rules and policies. They apply to everyone to provide a level playing field.”

May 2019 Population Census Of Horses On Assateague Island

The National Park Service has completed its May 2019 population census of the wild horses on Assateague Island. The total population of the Maryland herd is currently at 76 horses, including 21 stallions and 55 mares. There was one birth documented during the census (chestnut filly N2BHS-AR), and one death as a result of a natural event. The 31-year-old sorrel mare N6BM sustained a broken hind leg during a fight with another horse. A visitor observed the fight about 6 miles south on the OSV and reported the event, allowing the mare to be humanely euthanized without delay.

The National Park Service completes a full census of the horse population in Maryland six times per year, in February, March, May, July, September, and November. Managed as a wildlife population, the Assateague horses are free to roam over approximately 27 miles of the barrier island and can be difficult to find at times. During each census, horses are identified by their distinguishing characteristics, mapped and counted. Individual horses that are not observed during multiple census periods are presumed dead. The purpose of the census is to monitor the overall population dynamics of the horse herd in support of the long term fertility control program that was initiated in 1994. McCready Decried Dark Money In 2018, Received $944K In Dark Money Help

Congressional candidate Dan McCready (D.) publicly denounced dark money in the 2018 election cycle while a dark money group was spending nearly $1 million to defeat McCready’s opponent in a North Carolina House race at the same time.

McCready tweeted "Dark money has no place in our politics" last September while linking to a Washington Post story about a Supreme Court decision in which the high court declined to take up a campaign finance case that could have required more disclosure by nonprofits.

However, outside spending groups "shelled out $4.6 million to help McCready, most of which went toward negative ads against Harris," according to the Center for Responsive Politics. "The DCCC spent just over $1 million on the race and liberal ‘dark money’ 501(c) Patriot Majority USA dropped $944,060 to help McCready."

Hurt: Democrats’ Best Hope for 2020: The No-Information Voter

These sure are boom times for the psychiatry industry.

Wearing hot bubble gum pink, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared last week she is so worried about President Trump’s mental state that she is actually praying for him. It takes a lot to make a rabid abortion enthusiast like her kneel in prayer.

With an eye twitch and a brain spasm, Mrs. Pelosi accused the president of throwing a “temper tantrum” during a meeting with Democrats. She urged Mr. Trump’s family and the members of his administration to stage an “intervention.”

This, after two years in which it was Mrs. Pelosi and her team of fraud dogs who have been living an extravagant fantasy in which Mr. Trump is accused of colluding with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election. Having proven incapable of beating Mr. Trump at the polls, the endless investigation was intended to remove him from office by other means.

Mrs. Pelosi’s coup failed.

Last week, Mr. Trump called the speaker “crazy” after she refused to give up clinging to her party’s fantasy about how Mr. Trump stole the 2016 election. In past elections, Democrats have worked feverishly to woo so-called “low information” voters. Today, they are going whole hog after “no information” voters, hoping to fill empty minds with wild political fantasies, some of them involving urination and hookers in a Moscow hotel.

Zeroing in on Mrs. Pelosi’s alarming tendency toward eye twitches, mental pauses, and 1,000-yard stares during speeches, Mr. Trump observed: “She’s a mess.”

What is period poverty?

The average woman spends 2,535 days of her life menstruating. She has no choice in the matter — it is simply biology. So, regardless of her financial or social situation, she must purchase or otherwise obtain access to enough pads, tampons or menstrual cups to bleed for nearly seven years of her life.

For many, periods are simply an inconvenience, perhaps accompanied by a slew of uncomfortable symptoms like PMS, bloating and cramps. But for millions of other girls and women in the United States, however, the situation is much more severe.

American women are 38% more likely to live in poverty than men. And if you only have $5 in your pocket when your period arrives, you may have to choose between buying tampons and eating — or worse, between buying tampons and feeding your kids.

"The average mother will put food on that table for their children with the last five in your pocket and she will find other ways to get the other necessities that she needs," said Nicole Johnson, who went into a New York City shelter with her four children in 2005. "I've seen and I've heard mothers do all types of things… going out onto the streets with their babies, in and out of trucks. What's to say you're gonna come back? What's to say your child is gonna come back?"

The cost estimates were disclosed Wednesday at a City Council budget hearing as regular email service was restored for at least some Baltimore employees, the first public indication that the city’s technological recovery is showing signs of success.

The city’s information technology office has spent $4.6 million on recovery efforts since the ransomware struck May 7 and expects to spend an additional $5.4 million by the end of the year, officials said.

Cleric: Muslims ‘Have a Duty’ to Obtain Nuclear Weapons

A leading Muslim cleric said that adherents to the faith across the globe have a religious duty to build nuclear weapons to combat Israelis and Jews, according to a translation of his recent remarks broadcast on a television station controlled by the terrorist group Hamas.

Muhammad Al-Hassan Ould Al-Dadou Al-Shanqit, a Mauritanian cleric, was interviewedon the Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV about efforts by Islamic countries to obtain nuclear weapons. While extremist regimes such as the Islamic Republic in Iran have claimed there are religious bans on the building of nuclear weapons, Al-Shanqit maintained it is "a duty" of Arabs to build these weapons of mass destruction.

"Since this kind of weapon has been used in the past, and since there is now a threat that it will be used against the Muslims, they have a duty to strive to obtain this weapon," Al-Shanqit was quoted as saying in a translation of his remarks performed by the media watchdog site Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI

CEASE AND DESIST LETTER ISSUED OVER PRIVATE BORDER WALL

The owner of a property where a private border wall was built over Memorial Day weekend received a cease and desist order Tuesday for building the half-mile wall in violation of a Sunland Park, New Mexico, city ordinance.

The wall, built near El Paso, Texas, by a nonprofit organization funded by triple-amputee Airforce veteran Brian Kolfage’s viral $20 million GoFundMe fundraising campaign, didn’t obtain a building permit prior to breaking ground, Sunland Park city officials told KTSM.

“We have issued a cease and desist to the owner of the property,” Sunland Park Democratic Mayor Javier Perea said at a press conference Tuesday. “At this point, it will be turned over to the courts for follow up in the matter.”

Kolfage claimed on Twitter that his organization, We Build The Wall, was given the “green light to build,” and said the city’s cease and desist was “bullshit.”

Millennials Stuck in Their Lifestyle-Choices Rut

A recent article in The Wall Street Journal paints a very bleak picture for the long-term future of Millennials. Entitled “Millennials Near Middle Age in Crisis,” the article claims the Millennial generation is “in worse financial shape than every living generation ahead of them, lagging behind baby boomers and Generation X despite a decade of economic growth and falling unemployment.”

To prove this thesis, the article outlines a litany of demographic data, showing this generation has less accumulated wealth and property, lower marriage rates, and fewer children than previous generations, despite being the most educated (some may say indoctrinated) generation in American history. This is especially frightening as the social safety-net programs hurtle toward insolvency.

So why the disconnect?

According to Federal Reserve economist Christopher Kurz, Millennials had an average net worth of $92,000 in 2016, which, adjusted for inflation, is about 40% less at the same point in their adulthood than Gen X-ers, and 20% less than Baby Boomers. Millennial men who are heads of households also have wage rates 18% lower than Generation X, and 27% less than Baby Boomers.

Flashback: Biden Opposed Amnesty, Called for Immigrants to Speak English

Former vice president and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden praised a 2006 immigration bill for denying amnesty to illegal immigrants and punishing businesses that employ them.

In an interview with NBC’s Chris Matthews in 2006, then-senator Biden voiced his support for the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, sponsored by Sens. Ted Kennedy and John McCain. When asked by Matthews if there was a Democratic Party position which "accommodates the need to stop illegal entry, punish people who hire people with cheap wages illegally, and also gives hope to people who live here illegally," Biden said that he believed the McCain-Kennedy Bill would achieve those ends.

Matthews then asked, "Can you scare an employer in this country … into not hiring an illegal because the punishment's so high that if you get caught, it's a huge embarrassment to your family, and you may just get hit with a fine that'll kill you?"

Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?''
Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'

Sadly, they walk among us!

Traffic Camera

A man was driving when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding. Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed. Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed. He tried a fourth time with the same result. He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail's pace.
Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for Driving without a seat belt !!
