Legislation that will keep students in school until age 18 is expected to be introduced this week.
Sponsored by Rep. Debra Heffernan, D-north Wilmington House Bill 170 would raise the age requirement for compulsory school attendance in Delaware from 16 to 18 over a two-year period. No Republicans were listed as co-sponsors.
The National Center for Educational Statistics notes that in 2016 the median earnings of young adults (ages 25-34) with a high school diploma ($31,800) was 26 percent higher than the median earnings of those without a high school diploma ($25,400).

Just more ways to take your money and to control you and to indoctrinate you... Think about it, Seriously think about it... What purpose does it solve for making kids stay in school until they are 18??? That means more schools, or bigger ones to handle all of these kids... Then you have to have higher taxes to pay for the schools or to expand then ah who am I kidding they don't expand schools, they just build new ones and let the old ones rot... Anyway, this means more taxes to pay for the paper needed, the meals and food needed, protection needed... More electricity will be used and so on and so fourth... Who do you think will pay for that??? YOU TAX PAYERS WILL!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat about School discipline?
ReplyDeleteHaving been a high school educator for 4 decades, I can tell you that this bill is absolutely stupid. The students who want to drop out at 16 obviously don't want to be there and you're going to force them to attend for another 2 years? They won't be a discipline problem at all, will they? You bet your ass they will. Stupid, just stupid...
ReplyDeleteWe are not free
ReplyDeleteKeep it up and there'll be more taxes in tax-free Delaware.
ReplyDelete18 ?
ReplyDeleteis that just for first grade too ?
Northwest Woodsman: Makes perfect sense. Babysit them for another year and gives them time to hang with their friends. Should, include a course on fun things to do while waiting for arraignment.
ReplyDeleteOh nuts. Just have ur parents pay someone some money and buy ur diploma like the college scandal. Now, every time I look at a doctor or lawyer I wonder...
