Are Ocean City Officials Lying About Special Event Revenue?

While the title captures your attention you have to ask yourself, WHO'S LYING? Could it be that Mayor Jake Day is full of crap? Could it be your local media actually knows something stinks about these very creative figures but are more interested in municipal advertising revenue rather then investigate these event numbers and actually challenge them?

Let's look at other events like Sunfest, Springfest, Bike Week, Classic Car Week, hey, here's an idea, how about the huge Dog Show held every year in Wicomico County that brings in thousands of people. You NEVER hear about the actual revenue these events bring forth, yet Jake Day can say anything he wants and your local Liberal Media simply publish the BS he spews.

Nevertheless you need to start asking yourself, if Jake Day's numbers were in fact accurate, doesn't that mean Ocean City should be bringing in BILLIONS of dollars and if that is the case, why are property owners paying out outrageous property taxes.

I think it's about time we AMERICANS need to start challenging our elected officials to actually be ACCOUNTABLE for such numbers and demand a reduction in taxes, since these municipalities are so rich, according to Jake Day.

So I ask, are YOU ready to start being more vocal and demand answers? Or are you one of those pansy liberals who is so DUMB you just bend over and agree with anything your leaders tell you? As for me, I'm not stupid, are you?

  1. I completely agree. What do you propose we actually do about it besides holding picket signs and chanting? Cause we all know that doesnt work?

Obviously it isnt the time for physical altercations.

So what do we do about it? How do we stop it? How do we let them know we are fed up with the current situation from local to federal?

When i proposed stop paying taxes for small business owners and mandate employees to 1099's you all looked at me like i was a un-patriotic nazi. So what do we do about it?

  2. Joe, I'm afraid that title about Ocean City may not get the numbers of people that should be reading this article. A lot of people may see Ocean City and think 'Well that's in Ocean City so that doesn't affect me' and keep on scrolling. You might need a better caption.

  3. You have a point. I guess because he's spending money like it grows on trees for nonessential things, murials, bike lanes, etc. And I know there are grants for some of this. But if he fudges the figures, and then toots his horn, it's an " I told you so" moment for him and his buddies. Taxes will keep going up in Salisbury, no doubt. Simple math.

  4. Maybe Ocean City needs to publish some Healthy Beach Bum books to hide some of the revenue they are taking in?

  5. It's hard to believe that each attendee spent between $400 an $550 (depending on true head count).

  7. If they made that much revenue, why the begging for money?

  8. I'd like to see a simple accounting of how they came up with these numbers. Is Adam Schiff helping with it? They just are not credible.

  9. Maybe the economic impact also includes how much government money was spent to produce the show, i.e., equipment rentals, police and DPW overtime, vehicle and generator fuel costs, electricity, construction, advertising, etc.

  11. Waa, waa. Boo Hoo. Only four more years and you'll have to find someone else to complain about. Complaints like these did not stop him from being re-elected...in a landslide!

  12. ABSOLUTELY NOT POSSIBLE that Ocean City made that much revenue during the Folked Festival! My spouse runs an OC hotel, and among the hotelier circle, OC saw almost NO revenue from this, let alone people driving here for a meal from the Salisbury F. Festival. A load of CRAP!

  14. Bethlehem PA has a free Musikfest that runs 10 days / 12 hours a day and has headline known artists, brings in over 1.2 million people and has an economic impact of 60+ million to the community

Ghettobury has a 20 hour festival with a bunch of unknown artists and brings in (laughin) 156K peeps and has an economic impact of 45 million.

Wonder who the lying is? Really? He gets away with it because very few "born heres" ever go past the city limits and have no real world experience.

Mr Memo needs to go back to math class. The guy is an idiot.

  15. Where is the study? Has to be in writing so it will show where they are getting the numbers.

  16. The first "come here" mayor of Salisbury will arrive in about fifty years. Be patient.
