You know these kids were never taught how to change a tire, so.... All residents should be provided free ice picks or oyster knives to poke holes in the H20i car tires. And AAA should be banned from OC for that weekend. They'll have to call mommy.
I do hope this isn't true. If it is, I'm not sure what can be done and I think that is the point this group is making. It seems to be anarchy and defiance of the law coupled with a mentality that they can do whatever they want. I don't have an answer for this and I am sure LE is aware - I hope that this is shared with the Gov Hogan and the state house and senate for some sort of emergency action. That said, I do wonder if these people are doing this to test the waters to see what reaction they will receive.
Idiots! So if this goes down and is a disaster like last weekend, I hope the police hunt down DAvid Nelson and charge him to the max for creating this event!
It seems as though this group provides a challenge beyond the capabilities of the current Ocean City leadership. In the past assigned areas for events and a fair degree of acceptance was demonstrated by local officials. However, in lieu of dealing severely with the disruptive element of group, officials succumbed to the complaints of the local 3,000 and through media demeaned and disparaged the entire group and event.
This has resulted in infuriating, whether rightly or wrongly, a large segment of the group. Thus, most of the deplorable behavior that has manifested itself is a result of what they believe to be revengeful and warranted by virtue of the perceived negative response from the Ocean City Government officials and media. It is going to take some very mature leadership (not sure any is present) from Ocean City’s Mayor and Council to raise a flag of truce and begin a dialogue with leadership of the group in order to reach an acceptable agreement for all. Is it possible? Absolutely! However, it is going to are a lot more than the simple rhetoric coming out of the Mayor’s mouth.
There was a time when firefighter weekend was a giant booze fueled slugfest all over town but I don't remember them being hounded like these kids. With this generation OC politicians words basically issued them a challenge of how many can you bring and how disruptive can you get.
This is the kind of kids you get when you let them grow up with no discipline. They have no respect for anything. They don't respect the law, police, property, elders. They have no respect for anything. It is the parents fault. Raised on television and video games. Parents too busy working to give them anything they ask for out of guilt for not giving their children their TIME, and LOVE, and DISCIPLINE. My kids had all three and yes my wife and i both worked. But you make time for what is important. And your kids should be more important than a new car or that boat you wanted. Just saying kids need their parents to be involved with their lives not just outside observers giving them everything.
Given the events of this past weekend were so bad, I do believe that the special event zone legislation will be upgraded quite quickly, but not likely in time for this crowd to descend on Ocean City once again. I do agree with the comments made by the poster at 9:00 to some degree. Specifically, engaging these people on line. They had been successfully emboldened over the last few years, and I felt that this just became more gas on an already growing fire. However, the town is now in a position where something drastic must be done by leadership. At this point, placating the H2oi crowd will make things much worse, as they will believe they have he upper hand. It is always better to negotiate from a position of strength, and to that end the town must develop and implement a sever doctrine. Once word travels through that community that the consequences of poor conduct have harsh penalties, this will cease. I do disagree with the 9:00 am poster that these folks can be reasoned with. Even if that were true, think about their perspective. If you are the type of person that revels in this, who in the online/car community could influence or control your behavior? Simply, there are just legions of these folks who don't care and feel they can do as they wish. This is why they must be dealt with swiftly and severely.
Anyone remember the famed Ghetto-fest plastered all over social media a couple years ago. The town was up in arms, brought in extra help and what happened - ZERO! Extra $$$$ down the drain. Same thing here - fear is our worst enemy and the town will need more $$$$ next budget cycle.
Fear and over reaction is not success. Jump on board OC, embrace the entity and punish the troublemakers hard. Win win for everyone.
Remember, City Hall wants a year round town and must also accept the blame when they are not prepared!! If its too hot in the kitchen Rickie, step aside and let someone else sit in the Captain's chair!
Nailed it! Wow, a very mature analysis and recommendation! I didn't think anyone in OC could think like that. Thank you for that very mature observation. You should run for Mayor and show all the mealy-mouthed intolerants how to govern. Somehow me thinks tolerance is not in their vocabulary, nor peaceful dialog. OC has responded to this very large group with nothing but disdain for ALL OF THEM, not just the troublemakers. They have never treated any other large group like that. OC has always had little respect for young people. No respect for teens and young people when I was a teen in the sixties and seventies, and not now. I'm afraid your sensible and reasoned approach will be ignored by everyone, including the Mayor and Council, and the OCPD. They want to think they are in control. That group is going to prove them wrong, if OC wants to continue the adversarial relationship with them.
No, OC wants to blame and ban the GROUP, for the illegal behavior of some. Group banning, or banning their right to assemble, is a very valid legal point that goes right to our constitution. Don't make light of it just because you don't know what the commenter is talking about. Banning groups IS a big issue, whether you comprehend it, or not.
I'd like to know how many of the replies on this topic (in favor of tolerance and acceptance of this group) were based on eye witness, first-hand knowledge. I'm doubting none. I did witness it first-hand and it was the absolute worst scenario you can envision. I've never felt threatened on Coastal Highway. Never! Until last week, that is. I actually pulled out my gun and had it ready because it thought we were going to be attacked. Our truck was almost sideswiped, rear-ended and cut off several times. Kids were jumping in front of our truck. So, don't try to describe a Kiss concert if you've never seen one. You obviously did not experience it if you want them back in our town. Sit in your intellectual cave and espouse tolerance of kids acting like out of control zoo animals.
Very astute observance. Nobody in OC wants to be reasonable in accommodating this group, despite their shortcomings. Their anti-youth bias is showing, big time. I'd like to see young people boycott OC for one season, and see how OC makes out without them. And I'm talking about those minimum wage jobs they all expect the young people to do, while making the business owners wealthy. Let those permanent, year round residents go ahead an kill the goose for the business owners. Most of the complaints I see are coming from that useless mayor, and residents, not business owners, who profited wildly last weekend.
One question, 2:37 Do you reside or own property in Ocean City? I expect not. And, no we can't reason with an unreasonable group of kids, who seemed determined to wreak as much havoc on our town as possible. I have kids that age and they love the town and what it hast to offer and yes, even they, have condemned this event and the acts of the many vs the few that some comments elude to. So, they are not the anti-youth people to whom you eluded. So, bring on the mannerly and well parented young men and women. yes, they do bring revenue to the town. But, WE WILL NOT BE HIGHJACKED BY THE H20i GROUP EVER AGAIN! Keep the dollars in Atlantic City or any other town except ours. We don't want it if it entails destruction of property and desecration of the ideals that made OC great.
If you were so scared of the kids and their cars you had to pull out your "gun," you have no business owning a gun. Seriously you are a danger to the public, much more than those kids. Before all you haters go nuts over that comment, I am a conservative gun owner and supporter of the 2nd amendment. I'm not a liberal, I am a responsible gun owner, not one riding around looking for someone to shoot.
You weren’t in OC Between downtown and the convention center Saturday night. Then you would understand. It was mob rule ripping lights off police cars. Hundreds of people walking in the middle of coastal highway like it was a parade. It was nuts
You know, I think all you haters deserve that crowd. The more you complain, the more I think you deserve it. I hope you all get to see them many more times. It pleases me....
The kids will win, or just get tired of the place. You can't chase them away. They will only become more determined. But the complainers are too dense to realize it.
1:40-- Comprehension isn't my issue. When a large percentile of a group behaves in an illegal fashion, they will be treated as a group problem. Just stating the obvious, since it seems to escape you. Nobody is being picked on, they are earning the reputation of troublemakers. Ocean City has sanctioned events, not free-for-alls that destroy property , endanger pedestrians on the sidewalk, & infringe on others' rights.
You know these kids were never taught how to change a tire, so....

ReplyDeleteIt has to do w/the bad (ILLEGAL) behaviour, not people meeting. Your statement holds no water. Go get upset about some other non-issue.
Social media is the core of this debacle as well as many other contemporary issues. Cancer of the 21st century.

This event fits the MO for the usual domestic terrorism suspects, that’s why it’s been tolerated to this point.
