Home-improvement chain Lowe's told thousands of workers this week that their roles were being eliminated and that the company was outsourcing maintenance, assembly and janitorial services, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Maintenance staff and assemblers were notified that they were being laid off, according to employees, and that their roles are going to be outsourced to third-party companies. Every Lowe’s store has several staff members that work in assembly and manufacturing. Workers are being told that they can reapply for other open positions at the company, but they’re not guaranteed the same pay.
Lowe's employed 90,000 full-time and 110,000 part time workers as of February 1. The company has about 2,000 stores in the United States.

ReplyDeleteWell everything they and Home Depot sell is either made in China or Mexico what did you expect ? They need to get rid of all the part time cranky retired folks limping and waddling around clueless. You can google anything and figure out what you need I don't shop looking for personal attention or service I want to get what I need and get too it. Like tipping culture let your employer pay you to take my order and schlep the plate to my table. I don't need an experience just deliver the goods. Those people work like anyone else why shouldn't they have a living wage and benefits paid by their employer ? If they don't I will be paying that for them down the road why tip them now .
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago I went to the local Lowe’s to look for new counter tops for kitchen and bath.
ReplyDeleteI had just purchased my home and it needed some upgrades. The gentleman in the counter top department saw me looking and he was sitting at a desk.
I finally went over to him and he almost ignored me.
Finally he asked if he could help me and I inquired about a certain countertop.
He said....oh you don’t want that.
We have only installed it about four times.
How did he know I didn’t want it? He had no explanation as to why I shouldn’t want it. He basically didn’t like the looks of it and felt I would tire of it.
When I asked about someone coming out to measure he gave me a piece of graph paper and told me to go home and draw what I needed along with writing down the measurements. I left there and dropped his precious graph paper in the trash can on the way out.
I immediately went to a local company that specializes in counter tops and kitchen remodels and he sent someone out to measure the next day. He sold me what I wanted at less than Lowe’s price and was very helpful.
Later I had to buy numerous items for my house as I had a tile backsplash and faucets and electrical outlets replaced etc. I spent well over $1000.....at Home Depot.
I have not been back to Lowe’s and won’t be back unless I can’t find what I am looking for elsewhere.
Customer service .........they might need a refresher course.

ReplyDeleteYou must have spoken to the same jack@ss we did. We had originally talked to a really nice guy named Bill. We were going in to ask a few questions and to order the cabinets. When we got there they said that Bill had left and gone to another job. Who ever the guy was that was there, he's been there a while, was a jerk. Every time I asked a question he gave some stupid answer that didn't actually answer the question. By the third snarky answer I had had enough and we walked out. We ended up getting cabinets at place in PA that has real solid wood cabinets and I couldn't be happier. They were also half the price of Lowes and included several more upgrade and options.
This is normal for a corporation to find cheaper alternatives. If you work in a chainstore situation expect changes all the time. Its the nature of the business. Their only mission is to make sales and profit at all cost. Don't work there if you don't realize this. You will be disappointed.
