Trump at 75th anniversary ceremony: D-Day veterans 'some of the greatest' Americans to live

On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, President Trump gave thanks to veterans of the allied forces who gave their lives to defend freedom around the world that day.

"To all of our friends and partners — our cherished alliance was forged in the heat of battle, tested in the trials of war, and proven in the blessings of peace," Trump said. "Our bond is unbreakable.”

Trump is in northern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

  2. If you ever get a chance to visit northern France, you will never regret visiting the nearby town of Bayeaux and the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. It is truly a life changing experience. When we went, it was Memorial day, and each white cross had a small American flag on one side and a French flag on the other. Some were decorated with flowers and/or coins, meaning someone had recently visited that grave. Seeing row after row of white crosses was both overwhelming and humbling. As you look down the cliff onto the beach, it is heart-wrenchingly brutal to imagine what those young men endured, as they came onto the beach and saw the German guns and bunkers. They paid the price for US.
