Denver’s ‘Magic Mushroom’ Vote Moves Drug Legalization Beyond Marijuana

The decision by Denver voters last week to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms marked a significant shift in the debate over legalizing illegal drugs—which up to this point revolved entirely around marijuana.

Denver becomes the first major American city to decriminalize another controlled substance, after 21 states, including Colorado, either decriminalized, legalized, or allowed small amounts of marijuana, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Drug policy experts disagree on whether the results of the Denver referendum on psychedelic mushrooms mark a domino for more legalization efforts, however.

  4. No they haven't. LSD/DMT and mushrooms have been proven to help our soldiers with severe PTSD - they are doing studies at Hopkins right now. LSD is by far the most effective anti-depressant. The only reason these drugs and pot are banned is because big pharma does not want the competition.

Open you mind and stop being such a boomer.

  6. @10:28 & 9:29 I'm 6:43 and you both don't know what the hell you're talking about. I'm a DAV marine veteran that suffers from PTSD and I'll be damned if any book or study you might have read is a broad cure all for all of us effected. You can't lump everyone into some BS study that was done on taxpayers dollars instead of actually helping veterans. I myself witnessed one of your Muslim brothers you want here so badly, even electing to Congress drive a truck into our barracks blowing up and killing over 200 people. I REALLY don't think you want me walking around town tripping on mushrooms and LSD, TRUST ME. The flashbacks of seeing body parts all over is hard enough sober let alone tripping my ass off. Until you've walked in my shoes don't speak for me I can handle my own

    1. 12:33 if you think a doctor is going to prescribe you LSD and send you on your way then you really are off your rocker. Treatment is short term in a controlled environment with a process you go through with a psychiatrist.

Sorry about your luck but you signed up for a war we all knew was BS. I would defend this country at the drop of a hat but I wouldn't sign up for the military today because you get sent to overthrow governments that don't do as they are told.

I am neither 10:28 nor 9:29 but I am more than just a little familiar with psychedelics.

Let me clarify a few things.
    1. its your assumption that people will be walking around tripping. And to that I will say yes, you are correct. However that is going to be a small % of the population. Going about your normal day tripping is not going to appeal to most people. However going to public parks like Pemberton will appeal to many. Being in nature will. Being at musical events. Being in big crowds is not going to appeal to most people. The setting has to many variables and only the more experienced or the wildly inexperienced people are going try this. But guess what? There are people that already do this and some how you dont know. So chill out a bit.
    2. LSD & Mushrooms have been shown to have anti-depressant effects after just 1 trip and has been shown to be very effective. With effects lasting anywhere from nothing to permanent and all points in between. It is described as a kind of reset.
    3. MDMA aka Ecstasy has been so effective at treating PTSD that many returning Vets are seeking it out on their own. As it is still a scheduled narcotic you cannot get, what you and I would call, regular office treatments using it. Only clinical trials.
    4. DMT - again similar.
    5. Salvia - 100% legal and the most potent psychedelic I have ever come across. (have not tried DMT which would be comparable in severity of effects)
    6. Assuming you are 100% anti-drug, your government makes a habit out of routinely misinforming the public as standard operating procedure.

For people who do not have any desire to use a psychedelic the idea of going to alternate places or seeing & hearing things not there is a terrifying thought. And there are some risks involved with using these drugs. I have not personally met anyone that has had permanent impairment due to use but they are out there for sure. They are few and far between but they exist.

So why whould you use these drugs?
    1. they are fun.
    2. they have the potential to make you aware of many concepts that are impossible to comprehend and even after being shown these things I cant say that your perspective is 100% reliable. But, for instance, 1 thing that all these drugs do is allow you to "FEEL"
    1. how large the universe is
    2. your place in it
    3. that everything is interconnected on a level we are not conscious of.
These are universal concepts that cross over all demographic boundaries and are reported by a staggering amount of users. Thats ALL USERS.

There is a wealth of knowledge on the subject. I would suggest www.erowid.com to anyone that is interested in learning more on the subject. This site contains academic info but more importantly it offers a large number of personal experiences had by people that have tried the drugs. Most reports are positive.

Your fear is justified but only because you have been raised in a world that is only now trying to understand these substances. Don't be afraid of the unknown.
