Suspect in 23 drive-offs tells police he has 'layaway' agreement with gas station

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WLUK) – Police arrested a man for his 23rd gas drive-off from the same chain.

Karl Kinyon, 37, was arrested after an incident Monday at a convenience store on S. 10th Street, according to the police report.

Kinyon told police he has a “layaway system” with Kwik Trip, and was in a hurry on Monday. But he always pays for the gas “eventually,” the report states.

Kwik Trip estimates Kinyon owes for 14 of the 23 drive-offs, for a total of $803.90.

    Apparently he doesn't realize layaway means the retailer keeps it until it is paid for.

    How cool is that! No credit check required. Buy here, don't pay here breakthrough. Bet the gallons pumped at that station will increase.
    Can call ahead on your Obamaphone and have your gallons waiting when you arrive.
