California Gov. Jerry Brown blamed “those who deny” global warming for wildfires devastating the state, while President Donald Trump blamed the blazes on the state’s “gross mismanagement of the forests.” So, who is right?
Both of them are wrong, according to University of Washington climate scientist Cliff Mass.
“The situation is complex,” Mass told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “And most of the politician are getting things wrong.”
“President Trump is not correct that forest management is a major issue in these fires,” Mass said via email. “The recent fires are predominantly in grassland and chaparral.”

L.A.County Fire Chief Blames Woolsey Fire on 'Extreme Climate Change'
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby on Monday appeared to blame climate change for the deadly Woolsey fire in Southern California and pushed back against President Donald Trump’s criticism of state officials, who he claimed were responsible for the fast-spreading blaze.
“I don’t really want to politize our efforts right now,” Osby told reporters when asked about President Trump blaming the fire on “gross” mismanagement. “I can just tell you that we’re in extreme climate change right now. We don’t control the climate.”

NJ Supreme Court rules more than 20,000 DWI convictions could be tossed
More than 20,000 Breathalyzer tests might be tossed out after it was discovered the machines were apparently not properly calibrated.
New Jersey State Police Sgt. Marc Dennis allegedly mishandled the devices that determine a driver's blood alcohol content (BAC), the state's Supreme Court ruled Tuesday, according to NJ Advance Media.
The justices unanimously found that criminal charges pending against Dennis — who oversaw the calibration of the devices as a coordinator with the State Police Alcohol Drug Testing Unit — made breath-testing device test results from five counties inadmissible as evidence.
The sergeant pleaded not guilty in January 2017 to official misconduct and records tampering charges after he was accused in 2016 of lying about the Breathalyzer machines on official documents.
Authorities have alleged he skipped a required step in the calibration process.
State authorities, however, have maintained that the step Dennis allegedly skipped was one of several redundancies and fail-safes meant to ensure the readings are accurate. They claim that omitting that one step didn't invalidate the results, noting New Jersey is the only state that requires the step.
Dennis has denied any wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty to records tampering and other charges.

Illegal Alien Accused of Killing Three Was a DACA Recipient
An illegal alien accused of killing three people has been a recipient of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program, immigration officials say.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson told theSpringfield News-Leader that Luis Rodrigo Perez, 23, a Mexican national accused of killing three people in Missouri after jail officials released him on domestic violence charges in New Jersey, was a recipient of the DACA program in 2012 and 2014.
It is unclear whether he was no longer eligible or did not re-apply for the program in 2016. Illegal aliens who came to the U.S. as children can qualify for DACA, but felony or significant misdemeanor convictions are grounds for disqualification from the program.

A Replay of 2000? Florida Recount Stirs Concerns
MIAMI—Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., had the best line when it comes to the latest Florida election in which contests for governor and the U.S. Senate are still undecided.
Rubio tweeted: “Bay County was hit by a Cat 4 Hurricane just 4 weeks ago, yet managed to count votes & submit timely results. Yet over 41 hours after polls closed #Broward elections office is still counting votes?”
With lawyers descending on the state in what looks to some like a replay of the 2000 “hanging chad” presidential election, an automatic recount has been triggered for both contests.
President Donald Trump and other Republicans are crying foul and accusing Democrats of trying to “steal” the election. Given the history of voter fraud in this country and the heavily Democratic makeup of Broward and Palm Beach counties, their suspicions may be justified.

Virginia Tech to open $1 billion campus in Northern Virginia next to Amazon HQ2
With Amazon coming to Virginia, state colleges are expanding their plans for computer science and innovation.
Virginia Tech announced plans Tuesday to build a $1 billion campus near Amazon’s new headquarters in Northern Virginia, a 1 million-square-foot project that officials said was a key reason the world’s largest internet retailer chose Virginia for the location of its HQ2. Amazon announced the location of its second headquarters Tuesday after a year of public jockeying for the tech giant’s 50,000 jobs and $5 billion of investment.
Rather than choose one location, Amazon opted for two — the other is New York City. Virginia’s offer included a higher education package centered on expanding education in computer science and related fields. Virginia Tech’s new campus was the centerpiece of that package.
“This is a watershed moment for Virginia Tech and a great day for the commonwealth that we are committed to serve,” school President Tim Sands said in a news release.
Tech’s new campus — named the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus — will be in National Landing, the newly branded neighborhood that includes parts of Pentagon City and Crystal City in Arlington County and Potomac Yard in Alexandria. The new campus will be about 2 miles from U.S. Route 1 in Alexandria and about 1 mile from Amazon’s HQ2.
“Our new Innovation Campus will be the global center of technology excellence and talent production — where highly skilled students, world-class faculty, smart ideas, and forward-thinking companies will meet to propel the commonwealth and the region forward,” Sands said.

University Reprimands Professor For Not Calling Transgender Student By Preferred Pronoun. Professor Files Suit.
After being chastised by university officials for addressing a male student who identifies as female as “sir,” an Ohio professor is suing the officials, stating that his evangelical Christian beliefs dictated his actions and that the university was violating his constitutional rights.
The lawsuit filed by Nicholas Meriwether, who teaches philosophy and religion at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, states, “In January 2018, a male student demanded that Dr. Meriwether address him as a woman because he identified as such and threatened to have Dr. Meriwether fired if he declined. To accede to these demands would have required Dr. Meriwether to communicate views regarding gender identity that he does not hold, that he does not wish to communicate, and that would contradict (and force him to violate) his sincerely held Christian beliefs.” The lawsuit also notes that Meriwether addresses students as “sir” or “Miss” to show respect.

"Things Are Getting Worse": Mall Owners Hand Over The Keys To Lenders Before They Even Default
For years, traditional malls around the United States have been in a state of partial or full collapse thanks to "the Amazon effect": deteriorating conditions, bankrupt or cash-bleeding tenants, with some even transforming into homeless shelters as the retail industry "evolves".
In other words, as Bloomberg writes, "things are getting worse for malls across America." So much worse, in fact, that their owners are simply walking away early from struggling properties, a trend that has sparked fears of material losses among mortgage bond investors.
Investors in and lenders to malls across America are bracing for the fallout from the disappearance of the brick and mortar sub-sector of the industry. With the recent bankruptcy of retail giant Sears, mall operators are continuing to see accelerating defaults in the wake of numerous other retail bankruptcies from stores like Bon-Ton, Wet Seal and RadioShack, and many others, resulting in abrupt declines in rental and lease payments.

UH-OH: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's First Appearance In D.C. Is At A PROTEST Against Nancy Pelosi — And Leftists AREN'T Happy
Newly elected Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made her first appearance in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, but the first item on her agenda has fellow Democrats seeing red.
Ocasio-Cortez joined a group of young activists called the "Sunrise Movement" in staging a sit-in protest outside the Capitol Hill office of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the House Minority Leader and, come January, the likely Speaker of the House — and Ocasio-Cortez's new boss.
Ocasio-Cortez addressed the protesters, who were holding signs asking for a "Green New Deal" from Democrats in charge, and demanding "Green Jobs for All," shook hands, and gave high-fives to the 50 or so protesters who blocked the entrance to Pelosi's office.

United We Fall, Divided We Stand
Everything I said is contained in a single word—collectivism. And isn’t that the god of our century? To act together. To think—together. To feel—together. To unite, to agree, to obey. To obey, to serve, to sacrifice. Divide and conquer—first. But then—unite and rule. We’ve discovered that one at last. Remember the Roman Emperor who said he wished humanity had a single neck so he could cut it? People have laughed at him for centuries. But we’ll have the last laugh. We’ve accomplished what he couldn’t accomplish. We’ve taught men to unite. This makes one neck ready for one leash. We found the magic word. Collectivism.
Ellsworth Toohey to Peter Keating, The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand, 1943
Countless commentators have decried disunity. They fret about our divided nation, warn of impending civil war, and implore us to come together to avert it. Unity’s desirability is taken as given, but what if the longed-for unity is that of passengers on a jet plunging into the ocean? A reappraisal of disunity is in order.
Unity was doomed with the passage of the 16th, or Income Tax, Amendment. It’s hard to feel any goodwill towards a government that forcibly relieves you of what you’ve produced, benefitting itself and those to whom it redistributes. The income tax divides the country into makers and takers, a division that cannot be bridged.

Acting AG Whitaker: ‘Special Counsel is Required’ To Investigate Clinton Foundation
“It’s very interesting to watch the Clinton camp try to explain away these meetings.”
Matthew Whitaker, the acting attorney general of the United States and a former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, said in a 2016 interview that there is enough evidence “in the public domain” to warrant the appointment of a “special prosecutor” to investigate the Clinton Foundation.
He added that the Foundation was “clearly a pay-to-play situation” where if you gave money to the Foundation, you got “preferential treatment” at the State Department, which was headed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from 2009 to 2013.
Hillary Clinton’s emailing of classified documents through her private computer server was a “serious” problem, but the “real ballgame” is “where Clinton Foundation donors were given preferential treatment,” said Whitaker in an Aug. 25, 2016 interview withBreitbart News Daily.
“It’s very interesting to watch the Clinton camp try to explain away these meetings,” said Whitaker. “Fifty percent of the meetings she took with people that were not essentially employees or representatives of countries or the like, just sort of individuals that wanted to meet with the Secretary of State, 50 percent of those – as the AP has reported, more than 50 percent – were Clinton Foundation donors.”

Nigel Farage Demands Merkel Apologize For Disastrous Open Borders Policy
“Worst decision seen in post-war politics in Europe”
Former UKIP leader and MEP Nigel Farage demanded Angela Merkel apologize for ruining German communities with her disastrous open border migrant policy.
Farage reminded technocrats currently pursuing an EU army that the European Union was initially set up to stop German domination of the continent.
He then launched into Merkel, who was sat nearby looking on with a somewhat nonplussed expression.
“Mrs Merkel – you’ve had a long and successful career, but your political decision to open up the doors unconditionally is the worst decision we’ve seen in post-war politics in Europe,” said Farage.

Judge could put the squeeze on Hillary Clinton for testimony on emails
A conservative watchdog group seeking to compel testimony from Hillary Clinton will get a hearing in federal court on the matter Wednesday afternoon.
Judicial Watch announced Tuesday that U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan will hear the case, which stems from a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit regarding the controversial employment status of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who was granted a "special government employee" designation to accept outside employment while she was working at the State Department.
Clinton submitted written testimony under oath in October 2016, but Judicial Watch took issue with her answering that she "does not recall" for multiple questions regarding her Clinton.com, non-state.gov email system.

Hillary Clinton remains inauthentic, unlikable and out of touch – she will never be president
An op-ed published this week in the Wall Street Journal has ignited rumors of a potential 2020 presidential run for Hillary Clinton.
The piece discusses the different iterations of Hillary Clinton the public has seen over the past 30-plus years. But none of those versions became president and no matter how many times Clinton tries to reinvent herself she cannot change who she is at the core: inauthentic, unlikable and out of touch.
According to the op-ed by Mark Penn and Andrew Stein – headlined “Hillary Will Run Again” – Hillary Clinton 1.0 was a “universal-health-care-promoting progressive firebrand” in 1994 when she was first lady.
Hillary Clinton version 2.0 was a moderate when she successfully ran for the Senate and again when she lost in the Democratic presidential primaries to then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008.
In 2016, Clinton 3.0 was a progressive who moved further to the left because of her challenger for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. And Hillary Clinton version 4.0 will run for president in 2020 by returning to her roots as a progressive, Penn and Stein predict.
But the fact there have been so many different versions of Clinton is precisely the problem.

9-Year-Old Boy Asks For Dessert, School Calls Him Racist And Calls 911
Police were called to a New Jersey elementary school after a 9-year-old student said, “Brownies,” while talking about snacks, his mother alleged.
Another student reportedly misinterpreted the comment and thought it was said in a racist way, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. A teacher subsequently called police.
“He said they were talking about brownies,” Stacy dos Santos, the child’s mother, said. “Who exactly did he offend?”
Dos Santos added that the incident has made her think twice about sending her child back to the school in the fall.
“I’m not comfortable with the administration; I don’t trust them, and neither does my child,” she said. “He was intimidated, obviously. There was a police officer with a gun in the holster talking to my son, saying, ‘Tell me what you said.’ He didn’t have anybody on his side.”
Officers also spoke to the children’s parents, and the incident was reported to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

Privacy concerns as Google absorbs DeepMind's health division
Privacy advocates have raised concerns about patients’ data after Google said it would take control of its subsidiary DeepMind’s healthcare division.
Google, which acquired London-based artificial intelligence lab DeepMind in 2014, said on Tuesday that the DeepMind Health brand, which uses NHS patient data, will cease to exist and the team behind its medical app Streams will join Google as part of Google Health.
It comes just months after DeepMind promised never to share data with the technology giant and an ethics board raised concerns over its independence.
A separate research team at DeepMind will continue to function independently of Google, but under the umbrella of its parent company Alphabet.
DeepMind health has already come under scrutiny from data watchdogs in the past.

Delaware Curbing Short-Term Health Plans over Concerns It May Raise Obamacare Premiums
Delaware announced on Monday that it will curb less expensive Obamacare alternatives, known as short-term health plans, due to concerns that they may lead to higher Obamacare premiums.
Delaware officials said that fearing higher Obamacare premiums, they will curb cheaper Obamacare alternatives that President Donald Trump expanded through executive orders.
Trump expanded short-term limited-duration health insurance plans through an executive order in October 2017, which often cost less than Obamacare plans because they do not have to comply with all of Obamacare’s insurance regulations. Americans can purchase short-term health plans for as many as to 36 months, which serve as a less expensive option for those who cannot afford Obamacare insurance plans.
Fearing increased health insurance premiums, Delaware will curb short-term health plans in the state for three months to curb Delaware citizens’ consumer freedom in the state.

US Hardens Border at Tijuana as Migrant Caravan Arrives
The U.S. government said it was starting work on Tuesday to "harden" the border crossing from Tijuana, Mexico, to prepare for the arrival of a migrant caravan leapfrogging its way across western Mexico.
Customs and Border Protection announced it was closing four lanes at the busy San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry in San Diego, California.
It said the closures were needed "to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan and the potential safety and security risk that it could cause."
The caravans became a campaign issue in U.S. midterm elections and U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of over 5,000 military troops to the border to help fend off the migrants. Trump has insinuated without proof that there are criminals or even terrorists in the group.
To the thousands of Central American migrants making their way toward Mexico's Pacific coast state of Nayarit, the prospect of meeting a hostile reception at the border is nothing new.

'Reinsurance' Obamacare fix wins bipartisan support in Senate
Sen. Joe Manchin III, a West Virginia Democrat who just won re-election in one of the country’s reddest states, has an idea to fixObamacare — call in President Trump.
The West Virginian is among senators on both sides of the aisle who want to bring back a bipartisan “reinsurance” plan, in which federal dollars blunt the costs of pricey customers in states’ markets, so everyone else can pay less.
A similar plan fell apart earlier this year, as both sides girded for a bitter midterm-election campaign. Yet Democrats romped to victory in the House and limited their Senate losses in a very unfavorable map, leaving a divided government and a chance for the White House to step in and find common ground.
“It’s going to be called ‘Trump Repair-care,’” Mr. Manchin said. “It really should be, because he’s the only one who can fix it. And I’m hoping he does.”
Sen. Bill Cassidy, Louisiana Republican, said lawmakers are already reaching for consensus on health costs, citing efforts to tamp down surprise medical bills and rein in drug prices by forbidding “gag clauses” at the pharmacy counter.

WATCH: Mexican Police Escort 400 from Migrant Caravan to U.S. Border
A caravan of nearly 400 migrants in eight buses arrived in the northern border state of Sonora, escorted by state and federal police on Monday.
A video posted by online depicts part of the caravan passing through a toll booth.
State and Federal police are providing security for the group as it heads to the U.S. border. The caravan stopped on the outskirts of Ciudad Obregon for a period of no more than 10 minutes to receive food and water. The caravan later stopped at a gas station, where they were met by personnel from Civil Protection and other agencies, according to local media.
Mexican authorities say doctors and specialists will be installed at various points on the road. Medical personnel are reportedly providing care for those who have become ill and also require vaccinations.
The caravan is expected to stop in the state capital of Hermosillo before continuing to Tijuana, which is currently experiencing a raging cartel war with record-breaking homicide figures.

Matt Gaetz: Democrats 'Stress-Testing Elections' to 'Steal 2020'
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow that Democrats are “stress-testing the integrity of our election system” to build a “road-map on how to steal the election from Donald Trump in 2020,” offering his remarks on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily.
Gaetz discussed ostensible vote recount efforts in Florida: “The law requires certain reporting and transparency to occur regarding who voted, when they voted, and by what means they voted. That transparency isn’t just to make us feel better, it’s the kryptonite to fraud, because if we know how people are voting you’re able to triangulate against any of the fraudsters that would cast the illegal ballots.”

Breaking: Leaked Documents Show Mueller Investigation Found No Russian Collusion
Mueller now desperately trying to find someone to indict for perjury to save face
Editor’s note: As we’ve reported a month ago – and in Trump’s own statements – the fact is, the investigation is essentially over and nothing substantial has been found – that’s the FBI’s very own findings. They found no concrete evidence of any collusion by anyone in the Trump administration, and this was leaked exclusively to One America News Network. The president has already signaled this but the investigation is going to want a couple of dubious indictments at the end using process charges to give the appearance of at least some criminality.
One America News has been extended unprecedented first-hand knowledge into the inside workings of Robert Mueller’s Russian collusion investigation, and the latest status after a year and a half ongoing efforts.
One America staff reporters have spent over five hours reviewing detailed, behind close doors, investigation questioning from those in the room.
Our sources tell us:
1. Mueller’s investigators have been focused on determining whether there was direct or indirect communications with WikiLeaks and Russian sources loosely associated with the 2016 Trump campaign.
Specifically, Mueller’s team has been aggressively drilling down to determine if there was any advance knowledge of anyone remotely associated with the Trump campaign, and advanced notice of the leaked DNC documents and hacked John Podesta’s email.

Florida Election Fraud's Hidden Gun-control Agenda
We’ve all seen those lists of objects, names, or places on tests along with the question of which one doesn’t belong or is out of place. Apply that test to the three Florida races affected by the vote fraud/incompetence in Broward and Palm Beach counties: senator, governor, and agricultural commissioner. Uh, agricultural commissioner? Why is anyone trying to steal that election, one lost under the radar among the seemingly more important national impact offices at stake?
The answer is that capturing the Florida agricultural commissioner’s post would be a key victory in liberal and progressive push for gun control. As the Tampa Bay Times notes, Florida is unusual in that the Florida agricultural commissioner, rather than the courts or other law enforcement, is the entity that regulates and controls things like concealed carry permits:
If it seems unusual for Florida's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to handle concealed weapons permits, that's because it is unusual -- nearly every other state gives the job to police or courts…
the NRA had lawmakers quietly move the Division of Licensing, which handles the concealed weapons permit program, from the Florida Department of State to the state's Department of Agriculture in 2002, so that the program was answerable to an elected official.
Marion Hammer, the NRA's chief lobbyist in Florida, defended the move and the practice as a way of protecting the Second Amendment rights of Floridians from a confusing array of county and city gun ordinances:

CORRUPTION: Democrats Bribe Amazon To Come To Town
On Tuesday, Amazon announced that it would split its much-ballyhooed HQ2 between two cities: New York and Crystal City, an area just outside Washington, D.C. New York is obviously heavy Democratic territory; the headquarters will be located in Queens, for whom the congressperson is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And Northern Virginia is a similarly Democratic area.
So, what goodies did Democrats give Jeff Bezos and Amazon for the privilege of hosting their new headquarters? According to Jim Geraghty of National Review, the state of Virginia will give Amazon some $573 million to produce some 25,000 jobs, and Arlington will give Amazon $23 million over 15 years. As Geraghty points out, “Arlington is raising taxes in order to pay Amazon to locate there.” Meanwhile, New York opened its goodie bag as well, with Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill De Blasio grinning through the announcement that the state would give Amazon some $2 billion in tax credits and other incentives. They will receive direct incentives of $1.525 billion for creating 25,000 jobs — an average of $61,000 per job created. As The New York Times reports:

Rep. Maxine Waters’ family continues to profit directly from her position in Congress
In 2005, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., was added to a liberal watchdog’s running list of the most corrupt members of Congress. Waters was added again in 2006 to the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s annual report on D.C. corruption. They added her again in 2009 and one more time in 2011.
The congresswoman’s daughter, Karen Waters, is set to collect more than $200,000 for heading a slate mailer operation for her mother’s 2018 re-election campaign, the Washington Free Beacon reported, citing new Federal Election Commission data:
Karen Waters has pulled in hefty payments from the campaign to run a slate mailer operation after the FEC issued an advisory opinion in October 2004 allowing Waters to run the operation from the Citizens for Waters, her mother's campaign committee. Prior to 2006, Karen ran the arrangement through LA Vote, a state committee in California.
Karen is in charge of slate mailers, or endorsement mailers, in which candidates pay Rep. Waters's campaign to appear on mailers that are sent to more than 200,000 residents in the South Central Los Angeles area, where Waters holds a good amount of clout. The mailers contain a sample ballot and quotes of support from Waters.
From 2006 through the end of the 2016 election cycle, Karen Waters’ firm, Progressive Connections, has collected more than $600,000 in campaign funds from her mom’s campaign committee, the Free Beacon also reported.
The congresswoman’s daughter also received an additional $108,862 in payments from the committee during the 2018 midterm election cycle, according to the FEC.
“The committee additionally reported that it still owes $94,000 to Karen,” the Free Beacon noted. “Once the debt is paid off, Karen will have received more than $200,000 in payments from the committee as marked at the end of the midterm cycle.

Lost Dog In Berlin
This is Buddy. Monday morning he happened to get loose from me when I open the my front door door and he saw another dog, which he engaged and I had to go out and separate them but when I did he ran off in the area of 589 and racetrack Marine. While on a foot chase he ran across the street from Racetrack Marine and was spotted twice later on that day after I reported him missing off of Cathel road on the other end of Atkins Road. He is microchipped so possibly if somebody finds him and possibly take him to a vet then they can return him when he is scanned. My name is Eddie Parsons and you can reach me at 443-397-8609.
Migrant caravan leaves Mexico City, with eyes on US border
The caravan of several thousand Central American migrants resumed their march Saturday toward the U.S. border, departing Mexico's capital city on a trek north to where troops have been deployed by President Trump to stop them.
The caravan, which now is made up of about 4,000 migrants, had been in Mexico City for the past four days resting before resuming their journey to the central Mexican city of Queretaro. The group began their trek by taking the city's metro system to the outskirts before walking and hitching rides along a main highway.
Those reaching the border will have a tougher time applying for asylum if they choose to cross into the U.S. illegally. On Thursday, the White House announced that migrants will not be allowed to enter the U.S. illegally to file asylum claims, which is how the vast majority of roughly 150,000 Central American families and children entered the U.S. last fiscal year.

Warning Signs of Alzheimer's You Shouldn't Ignore
Like any other disease, early detection plays a crucial role in getting the right help at the right time for Alzheimer’s disease. And to ensure early detection, there are warning signs that you should never ignore.
“Although it is unfortunately incurable at the present time, there are strategies you can implement to help slow down the progression of the disease,” says Dr. Gary Small, author of “2 Weeks to a Younger Brain” and the Mind-Body Health Report newletter.
‘In our book “2 Weeks to a Younger Brain” we focus on nutrition, stress management, physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep the brain healthy and potentially delay the symptoms of dementia,” he says.
Some warning signs you should never ignore: If you notice that memory problems are affecting your daily life, or that of a loved one, or perhaps finding ordinary conversation an increasingly difficult struggle you may be experiencing some of the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Altar'd State: How Free Market Can Make Christian Clothing a Success
As you wander the malls this holiday season, a couple stores down from Victoria's Secret you will find a women's retailer named Altar'd State.
A total of 550 more people will join their ranks this shopping season — courtesy of a very successful Christian clothing retailer — and an extremely successful economy.
It’s a story that hasn’t gotten a lot of press — possibly because it reflects well on the president, the free market — and (heaven forbid) conservative Christianity.
Altar’d State — which specializes in women’s apparel — is one of the most successful stores you’ve probably never heard about in the news.
It’s only about 10 years old now, but since its founding back in 2009 — in the trough of the worst recession in a generation — it has grown from a single store in Knoxville, Tennessee, to 100 outlets in 19 different states in the South and Midwest — and a multi-million-dollar payroll.
Interestingly, the clothing sold by Altar’d State is not overtly religious - or even political. No MAGA hats, or WWJD shirts, just tasteful competition for Abercrombie & Fitch, H & M or Anthropologie.
It’s mostly “Bohemian Chic” — entirely secular lace and crochet detailing, blouses and wraps — marketed toward women ranging in age from teens to their moms.

Ten of America’s Most Overrated Tourist Destinations
America the beautiful. There’s so much to see and do all over the United States that Americans should never get bored. Our country has everything to offer, from mountains to deserts to the most varied coastlines anyone could ask for. Even our urban and suburban areas have untold options for entertainment and edification.
With that said, we have plenty of tourist traps and places that, despite millions of visitors and countless devotees, are overrated. As people cross off “bucket lists” – how I loathe that term – they wind up visiting places that are actually clichés while missing out on some real gems not far from the overrated spots.
Here are ten of American’s most overrated tourist destinations. With each entry, I try to present some alternatives, often with options for experiencing local culture and flavor. I realize that this list may step on some toes, but I’m calling it like I see it.

The Stupidest, Most Tragic War
We are now before the 100th anniversary of World War I, the war that was supposed to end all wars. While honoring the 16 million who died in this conflict, we should also condemn the memory of the politicians, officials and incompetent generals who created this horrendous blood bath.
I’ve walked most of the Western Front of the Great War, visited its battlefields and haunted forts, and seen the seas of crosses marking its innumerable cemeteries.
As a former soldier and war correspondent, I’ve always considered WWI as he stupidest, most tragic and catastrophic of all modern wars.
The continuation of this conflict, World War II, killed more people and brought more destruction on civilians in firebombed cities but, at least for me, World War I holds a special horror and poignancy. This war was not only an endless nightmare for the soldiers in their pestilential trenches, it also violently ended the previous 100 years of glorious European civilization, one of mankind’s most noble achievements.

Cold case killing of Florida college student cracked thanks to DNA, genealogy database, police say
A family's nearly two-decade wait to find out who killed their beloved daughter came to an end this month, as investigators announced an arrest in the cold case.
The Orlando Police Department said Monday that 38-year-old Benjamin L. Holmes was arrested in the murder of Christina Franke.
Franke was 25 and a student at the University of Central Florida majoring in education when she was found dead in her Audubon Park apartment in October 2001, according to FOX35. The college student had been robbed and assaulted, and her killer had left a large amount of DNA at the scene, police said.
Holmes was identified after the Orlando Police Department worked with Parabon Nanolabs to run a DNA sample to create a computer-generated composite of what Christine's killer could look like. The composite initially didn't come up with a match.

114 warrants served across Maryland since 'red flag' law went into effect in October
ROCKVILLE, Md. (ABC7) — Montgomery County Sheriff Darren Popkin believes Maryland’s new "red flag law" can save lives.
It gives family members, health professionals and law enforcement the authority to seek a judge’s order to take guns away from someone in crisis before they hurt themselves or others.
"Law enforcement has been running into people having some sort of mental health crisis forever, however, we never had an statutory authority to take the guns away," Popkin said.

Parkland Victim’s Father Responds To News Shooter Registered To Vote While In Jail
Andrew Pollack, the father of Parkland victim Meadow Pollack, reacted strongly to news that Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz registered to vote in Florida while sitting in a Broward County jail.
“He’s a mass murderer, he’s already confessed and he shouldn’t have the right to vote,” Pollack told Fox News on Saturday. “To allow him to register to vote when my daughter can’t, it’s like sticking a big knife in my heart.”
Pollack reportedly found out about Cruz being a registered voter while monitoring theongoing Broward County vote count following the 2018 midterm elections.
“I didn’t believe it myself until I went online,” he said.
Fox News reported:
The Florida Secretary of State’s website shows that Cruz was registered to vote in July – as a Republican – with the Broward jail as his home address. Cruz’ voter information was blocked from public view later Saturday.
As a registered voter in jail, Cruz would have been eligible to vote by absentee ballot. It’s unclear if he applied to vote absentee or if he voted.

As a registered voter in jail, Cruz would have been eligible to vote by absentee ballot. It’s unclear if he applied to vote absentee or if he voted.

Kunstler: "...And So We Enter A New Stage Of Collapse"
Rock The Vote
It warmed my heart to read in The Wall Street Journal that Hillary Clinton is preparing to re-enter the Washington DC swamp from her deluxe exile in the woods of Chappaqua, New York, and make another run for the White House - though it’s hard to calculate how many porters in sandals and loincloths will be required to lug all her baggage around the campaign trail. Will hubbie hit the hustings with her? That would be rich. I can just imagine the pussy-hatted legions shrieking #MeToo at every stop. Surely there is no better way to put the Democratic Party out of its misery.
The post-election melodramas in Georgia and Florida grind on, despite the various rules and laws about deadlines for certifying ballots and accounting for their origin. What is a ballot after all but a mere scrap of paper, easily reproducible, and interchangeable. Sometimes, they make strange journeys out of election headquarters in trucks and SUVs, seeking fun and excitement, and they have been known to mysteriously turn up by the hundredweight in broom closets where they retreat to caucus. Only one thing is certain: the ballot fiasco is a billable hours bonanza for DC lawyers arriving on the scene to sort things out — which they may not manage anyway.

Understanding The Global Recession Of 2019
Isn't it obvious that repeating the policies of 2009 won't be enough to save the system from a long-delayed reset?
2019 is shaping up to be the year in which all the policies that worked in the past will no longer work. As we all know, the Global Financial Meltdown / recession of 2008-09 was halted by the coordinated policies of the major central banks, which lowered interest rates to near-zero, bought trillions of dollars of bonds and iffy assets such as mortgage
Central governments which could do so went on a borrowing / spending binge to boost demand in their economies, and pursued other policies designed to bring demand forward, i.e. incentivize households to buy today what they'd planned to buy in the future.
This vast flood of low-cost credit and liquidity encouraged corporations to borrow money and use it to buy back their stocks, boosting per-share earnings and sending stocks higher for a decade.
The success of these policies has created a dangerous confidence that they'll work in the next global recession, currently scheduled for 2019. But policies follow the S-Curve of expansion, maturity and decline just like the rest of human endeavor: the next time around, these policies will be doing more of what's failed.
The global economy has changed. Demand has been brought forward for a decade, effectively draining the pool of future demand. Unprecedented asset purchases, low rates of interest and unlimited liquidity have inflated gargantuan credit / asset bubbles around the world, the so-called everything bubble as most asset classes are now correlated to central bank policies rather than to the fundamentals of the real-world economy.
Keenly aware that they've thinned their policy options and financial buffers to near-zero, central banks are struggling to normalize their policies by raising rates, reducing their balance sheets by selling assets and tightening lending conditions / liquidity.
Unfortunately for central banks, global economies are now junkies addicted to zero interest rates and central bank stimulus / support of bond markets, stock markets and real estate markets. The idea of normalization is to slowly inch the financial system and economy back to levels that were normal in previous eras, levels that allowed some room for central banks to respond to recessions and global financial crises by lowering rates and extending credit to insolvent lenders.
But reducing the drip of financial heroin hasn't ended global economies' addiction to extraordinary easy financial conditions. Rather, it's illuminated the dangers of their continued addiction.
