Cop Turns Off Heat Alarm, Leaves Dog in Hot Car Until He Dies, Not Charged Because He's a Cop

A cop in South Carolina deliberately turned off the heat alarm to his vehicle and then left his dog in the car until he died, and he was not charged with a crime.

Columbia, SC — Columbia police announced this week that a police dog handler who left his own K9 in a hot car until it died will not faces charges of animal cruelty, despite being entirely responsible for the animal’s death. The officer left the K9 in the hot car for over six hours until it died from the heat.

Police K9 vehicles come equipped with special alarms that will roll notify the officer if the air conditioner goes out or the car becomes too hot. However, on that day, for reasons he was unable to explain, Master Police Officer David Hurt turned that alarm off. He also left the poor Labrador retriever mix named “Turbo” in the car for over six hours without returning to even let him use the bathroom. Had he done so, Turbo would be alive today.

Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a news conference on Thursday that the officer’s behavior and negligence to keep the dog alive was shocking.

“He didn’t give any logical reason,” Holbrook said at a news conference. Yet despite turning off the alarm and creating a ticking time bomb of death for the K9, the department chose not bring charges against one of their own. Instead, Hurt was given just five days of unpaid leave.

  2. A perfect example of why the people have lost faith in the justice system and the police.

  3. Do the same to the officer.

  4. Exactly, Them versus US, and until you people get mad enough to stand up together and fight this crap, it will keep on happening... Most of you people who are innocent will be put in jail just becasue and it seems like just because it hasn't happened yet to you all, you don't give a damn...

And you call these people heroes, they don't give a shit about live any more than you do, clearly!!!! but you call someone so brazen with life like this, a hero???????? Cops and anyone who is a ass cheek sucking cop lover are cowards!!!!!!! Pure and simple cowards!!!!!

  7. If I did that to a K9 it would not be animal cruelty charge, I WOULD BE CHARGED WITH KILLING A LAW ENDORCEMENT OFFICER. There are two criminal starndards. One for the rich, politically connected and the police, another for the rest of us

  8. That cop murdered that dog and should face charges. Actually he tortured that dog,if the average citizen did that they would go to jail. No good POS.

  9. No he needs to be wrapped in a winter jacket and blanket then locked in a sea container for six hours see how he likes it... I can't believe the own police agency isn't curb stomping this douche canoe. You know how much money they shell out for a trained k9.... at minimum charge him with malicious destruction of government property.

  10. I hope that they don't give him another dog.

  11. There should be no option to shut the heat sensors off and if the v sensor goes off dispatch is notified just like not radio check acknowledgement gets automatic all call to that location.... this could have been prevented even if the cop was a douche

  12. What's the difference between what this pos did versus shooting a fellow officer? I hope he gets the hell that awaits him soon.

  13. My heart ached as I read this story and thought what that poor loyal dog went through.

  14. There's that "thin blue line" for you. And they wonder why we don't trust them. Go figure.

  15. YOU would go to PRISON for the murder of a cop (the dog IS a cop, according to all their propaganda). There are citizens IN PRISON RIGHT NOW for merely HITTING a police dog.
HE gets 5 days off and keeps his gun. When the above noted citizens get out of prison, they are BANNED FOR LIFE (some punishments never end, just like our Constitution stipulates) from EVER owning a gun. They go back to prison for doing that, too.

    TWO SETS of LAWS.

You keep cheering and they keep tightening the noose.

Does the whole f'ing country have Stockholm Syndrome or what???
Sooner or later, "we, the people" will do what EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH has done --- kill the benefactors of the Two Sets of Laws.
    Have fun.

  16. He should be fired and criminal charges against him, police represent and uphold the law, they are not above the law. This is just sickening !

  17. If I shot that same dog would I not be charged with killing a police officer ? So he murdered a police officer and got nothing ? This is double standards!

  18. He should be fired immediately!! Then put his POS ass in a car and light it on fire!! Anyone that hurts an animal should not get done to them what they do to the animal... they need to go to jail! Animal cruelty laws need to be harsher and maybe it would stop !!

  19. Laws for them and laws for us. WE need to change that. Why didn't the mayor do something?
