9:11, nobody is talking about THAT accident. We are talking about THIS accident. As stated, the OTHER person was wearing a seatbelt and survived. THAT is a FACT. Stop trying to justify Dave’s poor decision to not wear a seatbelt. It’s a shame he died. However, if he had worn a seatbelt, he would still be here today.
Dave was a son, a father and a grandfather. The community lost a great man. Instead of the unnecessary comments on him wearing a seatbelt why don’t u send prayers to all involved
2:55 Who cares. He was a wonderful person and for whatever reason he is unfortunately gone. Sometimes if you want to criticize you should step back and be quiet. His friends and family are hurting and dont give a damn about seatbelts. Try saying I am sorry and we will pray for peace and comfort for all affected. Dave we Will miss you and mourn for a long time. Prayers to Sara and family. Words will never Express the loss many will feel. God bless you all.

It wasn't a head on collision you big Dummy. Didn't you read the article? The woman pulled in front of him(T-Bone) and he swerved to avoid her. If it was a "head on" then how did the person that caused the accident end up with very minor injuries? I guess seat belts do matter in your head on collisions.
If he was properly restrained may be with us today. As a fire chief it is job, it is his duty to make sure that he and every passenger in the fire trucks are wearing their seat belts. It's the law and it's his ultimate responsibility.
I have a feeling that none of the firemen in Allen where their seatbelts.

What makes you think we haven't??
Maybe you should take our message and make sure EVERYONE is wearing a seat belt.
I challenge the Sheriff of Wicomico County to instruct the County Deputies to pull over the volunteer engines in the county and do spot seatbelt checks on them. What do you say Mike?

8:31 PM who cares? It might be his friends, relatives and firefighters who might be saved by learning from this mistake. You idiots always want to cover up.
Please keep in mind that everything in the vehicle continues going the speed the vehicle previously had been going before the abrupt stop of the collision! This includes you, unless restrained by your seatbelt! I'm so sorry this man lost his life, but given how many people "drive" now, I want every possible advantage. Not to be confused w/a guarantee, mind you.
While in his lifetime of service in the fire department he probably had come across more fatal car accidents than most of us here. Yes, he should have worn a seatbelt but we need to remember he also grew up in a time and place that didn't rely on seatbelts. Unfortunately, it cost him his life and his family, friends, and community mourn his passing.
For the record, my husband was involved in a serious crash 30 years ago in Fruitland. He had the light but was t-boned by a driver who didn't stop at the light. He didn't have his seatbelt on and was thrown to the passenger side of the vehicle. The impact of the crash completely destroyed what was the driver seat and steering area and the other car had to be pried out of my husband's car. The emergency crew and the accident reconstruction team agreed if his seatbelt had been on, they would have been scraping what remained of him out of the driver's seat.

Yeah, I'm sure Sheriff Lewis will get right on stopping a firetruck responding to an emergency to check seatbelts. Idiot.
First I want to send all my condolences to Mr Barry's loved ones. Also my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. I was there and witness the whole thing. This was all but a head on crash. Mr. Barry had no chance of avoiding the other vehicle who turned all but right in front of him. If I wouldn't have stopped my vehicle when I did his car would have hit my truck. Everyone that was there did everything we could till EMS arrived. I don't know this man but may his RIP in gods hands.
Very sad for his friends and family but seatbelts do save lives so it will be a subject of discussion. Don't get mad but use this to help educate not justify even the very best make mistakes. At the end of the day everyone has an opinion but the fact is a seatbelt wasn't worn and the life of a very special person was lost.
I've heard since this happened that there are many first responders who purposely do not wear seatbelts because they want to be able to jump in and out of their vehicle as fast as possible to get to an emergency. On the other hand, they have probably seen many fatal accidents where seatbelts were worn and it didn't save a life. So in the end, it's their personal judgment call. Also, is there something about Delaware roads that is so unsafe? Because we are hearing on the news just about everyday that there has been a fatal accident there. It seems much more so than in Maryland.
9:38, it's hard to tell if you are the smartest or the most stupid person on here by your last sentence. Must be the smartest, but I'm thinking dumbest.
Just my humble opinion reference Delaware having so many accidents, they have a large number of illegals. Just check out the names and most of the time it explains it. But that's okay, open out arms.

"9:38, it's hard to tell if you are the smartest or the most stupid person on here by your last sentence."
9:38's last sentence: " However, if he had worn a seatbelt, he would still be here today." Nothing wrong with 9:38's last sentence. Most of us agree.
Now let's look at your last sentence, 12:20's last sentence: "But that's okay, open out arms."
Ummm.... 12:20, it's hard to tell if you are the smartest or the most stupid person on here by your last sentence.

Yes
probably more than any other direction. Hope this helps you.
Especially in a convertible BMW with the amount of car accident fatalities a fire chief has seen in time.
