Wicomico County woman caught trying to bring a gun through Salisbury Airport checkpoint

Woman was escorting her child to the flight

SALISBURY, MD. –
Transportation Security Administration officers at Salisbury Regional Airport stopped a Wicomico County. Maryland, woman with a loaded handgun as she was escorting her child through the airport’s checkpoint.

The Salisbury, Maryland, resident was not ticketed to fly, rather she requested that the airline provide her with a “gate pass” for the purpose of escorting her child to the gate for a flight. The woman was found to be in possession of a .38 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets, including one in the chamber. It was detected when the woman’s bag entered the TSA checkpoint x-ray machine, where the gun was spotted by a TSA officer who was staffing the x-ray monitor.

It was the first firearm detected at the airport this year. One firearm was detected at the airport in 2017.

TSA officers notified the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department, which responded to the checkpoint and detained her for questioning.

TSA officers prevented a woman from bringing this handgun past a TSA checkpoint on Wednesday, May 9th at Salisbury Regional Airport. (Photo courtesy of TSA.)

As a reminder, individuals who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement. Even travelers with firearm permits are not allowed to bring guns onto airplanes. In addition, TSA has the authority to assess civil penalties of up to $13,000 for weapons violations. A typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $3,900. The complete list of penalties is posted online here: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/civil-enforcement.

Exactly. Something is fishy about this. Did she have a permit to carry a gun, if so that may be normal for her. If she didn't have a permit, then I would be more suspicious of her intent. Was she going to harm the child?

They were quick to name that REPUBLICAN county council member from Sussex County.

Why is that person a nutcase? This is a free country. We should have the right to carry guns in this country if we are sane, unlike you.

  15. Wow! I was under the impression that the People’s Socialist Republic of Maryland has laws and policies that preclude ordinary law abiding citizens from owning and carrying firearms. Maybe she just didn’t get the memo! I recall being thirteen and walking down Berlin Road outside Snow Hill with a .22 rifle over my shoulder and a High Standard Double Nine .22 revolver holstered on my hip and a State Trooper stopped and told me not to shoot near the highway and drove off. Still have the rifle but can’t recall what I did with the revolver. Maryland in the fifties and early sixties was a great place to live and grow up in. Breaks my heart to see what has happened to Salisbury, Snow Hill, Pocomoke and the rest of the shore. The whole state for that matter. I am almost seventy six and have observed the disasters created by liberalism and Marxist/socialist politicians and their agenda. Sadly, it has been incremental and therefore not so noticeable to our younger generation who have been indoctrinated through the public education system and the liberal bias of all the media. In my opinion things have gone way too far for us to regain the freedoms we have lost. Unity, not diversity was once our strength and I’m afraid that is gone forever. Almost glad that I won’t live long enough to see what my grandchildren are going th have to deal with.

  16. 5:05, you, I, and Imclain have a Second Amendment right to carry. I have training and a permit, yet Maryland refuses to honor it, and their reason is about cash, not protection of human life, which is more valuable.

Screw you and your stupid felony.

    Idiots.

Oklahoma passed a bill that would let residents carry a gun without a permit. It's not the first state to do so

Already the law in 12 states
The Oklahoma bill is similar to so-called constitutional carry laws in 12 other states -- Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming -- where residents are free to carry guns without permits or licenses, according to the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action and the Giffords Law Center To Prevent Gun Violence.

  25. The Second Amendment does not differentiate between concealed and openly carried arms. Such differentiation was not discussed during the debates about the Second Amendment. It was decades after the Bill of Rights was ratified that concealed carry was questioned. Arms technology had not changed significantly.

There were no colonial statutes that separated the carrying of concealed weapons from the open carrying of weapons.

The Kentucky legislature passed a statute forbidding concealed arms in 1813. It was challenged in court.

The statute was found unconstitutional in Bliss v. Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the state Supreme Court. It was 1822, three decades after the Second Amendment was ratified. Any restriction on bearing arms was contrary to “the right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state“, and was therefore void.

The court reasoned that any diminution of the right that existed when the Constitutional protection was adopted, was an infringement of the right, and was therefore unconstitutional. The logic is impeccable.

Federal laws have never been passed against the carry of concealed weapons.

In 2008 the Heller decision made clear what it meant to bear arms. Scalia quoted Justice Ginsburg's writing in a previous case. From cornell.edu:

Justice Ginsburg wrote that “[s]urely a most familiar meaning is, as the Constitution’s Second Amendment … indicate[s]: ‘wear, bear, or carry … upon the person or in the clothing or in a pocket, for the purpose … of being armed and ready for offensive or defensive action in a case of conflict with another person.’ ”

“..in the clothing or in a pocket” is carrying concealed.

Laws against the concealed carry of weapons are vestiges of laws designed to keep slaves and free blacks disarmed.

In 2010, the Supreme Court held the Second Amendment is incorporated against the States by the Fourteenth Amendment, finally doing what the Court should have done in 1873.

Adam Winkler, an Constitutional scholar at UCLA, has written that allowing only open carry may be the best way to discourage bearing arms in general. He made the case this might be the most effective way for the California legislature to chill the exercise of the Second Amendment.

Vermont has never required a permit for open or concealed carry. Twelve states have reformed their laws to allow the carrying of weapons, concealed or openly, without permission from the government, since 2003. They call it Constitutional Carry.

Both open carry and concealed carry are protected by the Second Amendment. Restricting the bearing of arms to either open carry or concealed carry is a clear infringement of that right to bear arms.

All these "law-abiding" citizens are so blind and dumb. No one has to take their rights away, they voluntarily and gladly give them away. And try to take other people's right away with them.

They need to stop thinking they are better than other people and do what is good and right for ALL people. You are not only hurting other people but yourselves as well but are too ignorant to understand that.

If someone saved me from bodily harm or death by using a firearm, I wouldn't give a hot damn if he had a permit or not, was "allowed" to possess a firearm or not, or anything else the "law" says he has to obey.

The only firearm charges I would vote to convict would be if someone used it to commit a crime such as a robbery or murder. Simply possessing one or ammo? He would walk every time.

Or the other 12 states too right? It seems you don't even care what they do in Maryland either. Matter of fact, is there anything you DO care about? If you want to be a sheep and ward of the state, that is your misguided business, but don't take others down with you because you are ignorant.

Your type is dangerous to everyone's freedom and rights. I wouldn't want to be you when TSHTF. The very ones you kowtow to won't protect you and the ones you try to repress will be hunting you down.

It will be too late to care then. You and your ilk reap what you sow and it will be deservedly so.

  33. 1:21 Start a business that has cash receipts that need to be deposited in the bank. Buy some rental properties and collect rent. Get a job for a property management company collecting rent. It's not difficult to show the need for a permit if you handle cash as part of a business. The permit will say that you must be engaged in banking activity while carrying. Banks like BOA have ATM machines that accept cash 24 hours a day. It is easy to meet the requirement of doing banking business.

Jury Nullification (a RIGHT your "leaders" don't like you to know about). I'm glad to see some of you know about it. It REALLY irritates prosecutors, but, there is nothing they can do about it. "We, the people" decide who has done wrong and the law is only a small part of it, if any at all, in the jury room. CITIZENS decide the measure of right or wrong and it is only their conscience that they must follow in the jury room.
Carry a gun. The police and the above-noted cheerleaders having NOTHING to fear from regular citizens carrying a weapon. Absolutely nothing.
No one does, except bad guys. Even though the police are rarely around to stop it, they much prefer that you are killed than for you to be able to have a chance at preventing it from happening.
And the slimy politicians who surround themselves with guns but tell "we, the people" that WE can't be trusted with our rights -- THEY will determine which ones we can have? Their day is coming, too.
Two Sets of Laws have slapped some of you silly.
Carry a gun. Protect yourself (and others), if necessary. Know about Jury Nullification.
Get off your knees, while you're at it.

    Let the party begin.....

For the record, son, law abiding citizens don't break ANY LAW using Jury Nullification. They are merely telling the State that they dont' think the accused did anything WRONG. Maybe broke the law, but not their idea of common sense or right and wrong.
Like I said, get off your knees, cheeleader.

  41. Thank you May 13, 2018 at 7:58 PM, you are correct. I was wondering why it took so long for someone to pick up on that. A ".38" is a revolver cartridge (usually a ".38 SPL" or ".38 SPL +P"). Unless it's a super ".38", which would then be a ".38 Super". Most .38 Supers are run on a 1911 platform (which the image is NOT). The size of the gun in the picture would lead me to believe it is in fact a ".380 ACP", not a ".38 Super", and most definitely not a ".38 SPL". After zooming in, I would go so far as two say a two-tone Beretta Pico. Google the image yourself. Tombstone Tactical has one for sale and is described as: "Beretta JMP8D25 Beretta Pico Pistol .380 ACP 2.7in 6rd Two Tone". Either way, good job TSA on catching this.
