Tennessee Meat Market Owner Accused of Carrying Out $1.2 Million Food Stamp Fraud

A Tennessee meat market owner is accused of carrying out a $1.2 million food stamp fraud scheme where he traded benefits for cash.

A federal grand jury indicted Guy Randal “Randy” Stockard, 59, on charges of food stamp fraud, conspiracy to commit food stamp fraud, and theft of government property on January 11, the Justice Department announced in a press release.

Stockard owned Southern Meat Market, a meat market in Memphis that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) authorized to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits—often referred to as food stamps.

  1. I see it at Walmart. Buy a product under snap and then return same product next day for cash. That's why you see do many returned TP packages. Only difference - Walmart doesn't have a clue it is happening so I guess you can't punish them. However they should have a system that gives store credit only if a product was paid for with SNAP.

I don't know how long ago that happened but I tried to return a pack of cheese that was bad. They would only allow me to do an exact change for the product. They wouldn't even give me a store credit. I asked why and they said because of EBT. Does EBT even cover TP? I thought it only covered food products.
