Breaking News: Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the U.S.'s largest sports retailers, will stop selling assault-style rifles and require gun buyers to be 21

The retailer also said that it would no longer sell high-capacity magazines and that it would not sell any gun to anyone under 21 years of age, regardless of local laws.

The announcement, made two weeks after the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 students and staff members, is one of the strongest stances taken by corporate America in the national gun debate. It also carries symbolic weight, coming from a prominent national gunseller.

  1. Unconstitutional, violators of the constitution should be punished severally. Not just boycotted. Time for a pro 2A gun store for Salisbury.

  2. There's no difference from my AR-15 and my hunting rifle except the hunting rifle is better for accurate shooting.

  3. Who buys the junk they sell, anyway?

  4. There are plenty of gun dealers that can set you up with a nice AR 15. No need for a Big Box store any more.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A sporting goods store not selling assault style weapons, or whatever they want to call them, is not unconstitutional. By that logic the fact that CVS doesn't sell firearms would also be unconstitutional. Your suggestion that it is as well as the suggestion that a business should be punished is ridiculous.

  7. Pretty sure they will get dragged into court on the age deal. Private companies can't discriminate based on age. Black males are killing each other more then anything. What would happen if Dicks said they won't sell a gun to a black male? Very silly.

  8. Good. I would rather people buy from small locally owned gun shops anyway.

  9. I have a feeling they will be hit with a lawsuit. How can they refuse to sell something but a bakery can't?

  10. 8:24 because they can choose what they stock and what they don't? Why's everyone so angry about this, just spend your money somewhere else

  11. Finally some common sense

  12. 8:24 a bit different. It's a baker refusing to create something for a freak show Oh Oh Oh I mean an occasion-sorry not sorry- an occasion their faith prohibits them from being a part of.
Dick's is not refusing to sell to a person but refusing to carry certain items all together.

  13. Good riddance Dicks.

Enjoy you’re SJW’s. I’m sure they will keep you in business

  14. Unconstitutional?? How dumb are you?? Dick's can sell or not sell whatever they want. Personally I think it's a great thing and will boost my spending there.

  15. Dick's was a place that shooters didn't go to. Overpriced, lack of inventory, and already previously banned sales of certain guns in the past couple years.

  16. 744, I'm confused how it is unconstitutional for a private corporation to set rules for what products they choose to stock and the age group they choose to sell to. Please explain.

  17. These people are just plain stupid... We are going to stop selling assault style weapons???? DO they not know any weapon can be used as an or use for an assault????? What makes a bolt action rifle not considered an assault style weapon when I can use it in the same manner to hurt people as those scary black looking ones that use a mag???

If you people can't see the only reason for this is to get guns out of our hands so we can't take the politicians out of office for when they decide to become dictators outright...

  18. Private Industry can do what they want! Live or die by the consumer sword is guess!

Dick's will change the age limit, but another business will "capitalize" on the opportunity and prosper!

    It is the American way!

  19. As a pro 2A conservative, this is not unconstitutional. Nowhere in the constitution does it state that a business HAS to sell a certain type of firearm

  20. 7:44 go stomp your feet and cry elsewhere. It is not unconstitutional.

  21. How can they refuse to sell something but a bakery can't?
    February 28, 2018 at 8:24 AM:

A bakery CAN refuse to sell cakes to anybody, but can't refuse to sell a cake to one individual, while selling them to others. Your logic isn't logical.

  22. Oh well. I don't shop in that overpriced store anyway. Besides, I have more guns than I need now.

  23. You mean a private business cannot decide the products it sells?
    Yeah for Dicks

  24. GREAT POINT, 8:24! I'll gladly join in a class action if it comes about!

  25. I wouldn't buy anything from dicks , the name fits him perfectly.

  26. No different than Chick Fil A closed on Sunday

  27. Never been there. I thought they sold basketballs and golf clubs?

  28. So they chose to make a political statement by removing a weapon from their inventory that is so over-priced by them, that they don't sell any. The one they have is for display only. LOL. There is big, really big, demand for AR15s right now, and it is Dick's loss. I can't believe they are still in business. Maybe they were hoping a political statement would boost their sales before they file for Chapter 11.

  29. I've never been to Dicks and I purchase all my guns in a local shop. I typically don't shop at billionaire companies that purchase products made by kids in sweat shops. Thank you.

  30. But in the meantime they just like Amazon will still sell everything else to train and make a school shooter successful. You know things like BB guns (Cruz had one to shoot small animals with), targets, tactical gear, sights, etc. Funniest are dingbats like 8:39 and 8:50. They cheer this 1/2 assed gesture on like it really means anything. Democrat politicians need to drop to their knees daily and Thank God ignoramuses like 8:39 and 8:50 exist otherwise democrats would never be elected.

  31. Yep this ought to cut down criminals from murdering other people. I mean they'll be able to buy off the radar from other criminals that stock the guns. Just because it is against the law to sell guns to mental health people, that should keep them from breaking the law of murdering right.

  32. So let me get this straight. They're going to stop selling guns because they "look" like an assault style gun. Does this mean that car dealerships will stop selling cars that look fast?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haven't clicked to read the article but are they going to stop selling them at their subsidiaries like Field and Stream? That's how these places fool the public. They remove an item from their well known named stores but keep it a subsidiary store hardly anyone knows they are associated with.

  34. Who cares, dicks is trash anyway. Overpriced, help act like they doing u a favor by waiting on you. We stopped going there years ago, plenty of gun shops that want your business, owned by local ppl. Dicks only hurting themselves.

  36. Sounds wonderful to some but if they refuse to sell rifles to someone 18 and state law says the legal age to purchase one is 18 Dick's is violating the law. In many states age is a protected class. Federally it is only protected for employment purposes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. FYI: Dick's never sold "assault rifles."

    "Assault rifles" are fully automatic.

    AR-15s are semi-automatic.

Dick's stopped selling AR-15s after Sandy Hook.

So yeah, the drama today is pretentious virtue-signaling.

Just so people know before they make a fool of themselves celebrating.

  38. The only thing I buy at dicks is baseball or soccer stuff if i want another gue i go to a real gun shop.
