Jeanette LeBlanc was crabbing with her friends and family on the Louisiana coast in September when she contracted the infection, KLFY reported.
LeBlanc and her friend Karen Bowers picked up some raw oysters in a Westwego market for a treat. The two women ate about two dozen raw oysters each before LeBlanc became ill, Bowers said.

Why would you people eat any seafood from or in the area of the gulf??? Where they had you know the oil spill for a month or two??? Where they didn't clean it?????
ReplyDeleteCommon sense people, but we all know you have no sense about you...
And I bet most of you dumb asses will do the same thing for seafood form or in the area of California, you know where fukashima keeps pouring radiation into the ocean, that after how man years has not been stopped??? And wonder how radiation got to CA...
How can you people even be alive??? You are to stupid to breathe on your own so how can you still be alive????
She died. Stop drinking and blogging
DeleteSpoken like a true shorebilly.
DeleteHaven't been reading this blog much lately, and I'm glad to see you are still here, proving you vast mental superiority over everyone else
DeleteHealth officials have been sayin this for years, "Don't eat raw meat, fish or poultry". Cook till internal temp reaches at least 160 degrees to kill of bacteria. I cringe when I see idiots eating Sushi, raw steaks and other raw foods.
ReplyDelete11:28- Wow! You have issues!
ReplyDeleteWho the hell would eat raw oysters? A biologist relative in MD told me to never eat them. They are the filters of many nasty things.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of people getting flesh eating bacteria from eating oysters or any seafood not that it's impossible but every case around our area and there have been numerous were from being in the water with an open wound and they did say they were out crabbing first.
ReplyDelete@ 11:28 You sound like an ass.
ReplyDelete11:28 There was a man visiting Ocean City about a year or two ago who died the same way. The virus is prevalent here in our waters as well.
ReplyDeleteDon't eat raw food. period. you dumb commenters here today can call me anything you want, BUT YOU are the ones who are STUPID and CLUELESS. This is just common sense.
ReplyDeleteWe are not commenting on the logic of eating uncooked meat. It's your assumption that every one but you is an idiot. You are the one who is stupid and clueless, with obviously no self awareness of what an ass you are! Get a life! "We" are not all idiots. You sound backed up again, gramps.
DeleteLobsters, Crabs, Oysters, and other bottom feeders are the Cockroaches of our Oceans. Why would anyone with a brain eat a cockroach?
ReplyDeleteLMAO. So 1 or 2 people died recently from eating raw oysters and most of the comments here are about how dumb it is to eat raw foods. Yet so many locals still smoke cigarettes and they kill hundreds of thousands of people every year. SMH.
ReplyDelete2:07- Yeah, Mr. Obvious. You got a point?
DeleteYou're choice 2:07...our waterways are NOT as clean as they were 'back in the day'... Some of you don't even understand we don't hear about all the illnesses and deaths that occur when eating Raw anything.
ReplyDeleteThere are even those that die or have permanent brain damage from jumping in a river, lake, pond that is contaminated.
Wake up.
4:19 Point is you shorebillies are dumber than dog turds. Smoke cigarettes that are proven to kill you, but are scared of a raw oyster.
ReplyDelete6:36-That's a huge assumption. Kind of bigoted, too. You feel better about yourself now? Make fun of a bunch of people make you feel superior. I think you got it backwards on who is "dumber than dog turds."
Delete12:24, you are correct. The fact is, though, between the crabbing shoreline and the Seafood Company, only one can be sued in court. Hence the "reasoning".
