The transgender former Army officer who was convicted of leaking classified documents filed her statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.
The Washington Post reported Saturday that Manning will challenge Democrat Ben Cardin. He has served two terms and is an overwhelming favorite to win.
The 30-year-old Manning listed a North Bethesda address in her FEC filing. She is running as a Democrat.

ReplyDeleteAs others have noted, Bradley Manning was a very junior enlisted soldier, a Specialist I think, who intentionally violated our nation's security laws by releasing classified information.
In the waning days of his term Obama commuted Manning's 35 year prison sentence to time served since arrest.
I don't know if the felony conviction is a bar to running; the Constitution sets the minimum age as 30. With popular election of senators, the states may have some other restrictions I'm not aware of.
Manning is a disturbed person, IMHO.

ReplyDeleteTo bring you all up to date. Chelsea is a woman. She sued for, and won, the right to get a sex change operation, while she was in prison, at taxpayer expense. Then Obama commuted her sentence. She has no male parts anymore. And she IS a convicted felon. Obama didn't pardon her for her crimes.
