FLASHBACK: TEN BASIC FORMS OF FAKE NEWS USED BY MAJOR MEDIA

Basic purpose is the presentation of a false picture of reality

You could find more forms, or divide these ten into sub-categories.

The ten basic forms are:

Direct lying about matters of fact. (This sometimes includes doubling down on lies already told, or telling a bigger lie after the first one.)

Leaving out vital information.

Limited hangout. (This is an admission of a crime or a mistake, which only partially reveals the whole truth. The idea is that by admitting a fraction of what really happened and burying the biggest revelations, people will be satisfied and go away, and the story will never be covered again.)

Shutting down the truth after publishing it—includes failing to follow up and investigate a story more deeply.

Not connecting dots between important pieces of data.

Censoring the truth, wherever it is found (or calling it “fake news”).

Using biased “experts” to present slanted or false “facts.”

Repeating a false story many times—this includes the echo-chamber effect, in which a number of outlets “bounce” the false story among themselves.

Claiming a reasonable and true consensus exists, when it doesn’t, when there are many important dissenters, who are shut out from offering their analysis.

Breaking the Beltway Mentality: Billions in New Spending Is Not a ‘Cut’

Under the healthcare bill currently being considered by the Senate, spending on Medicaid, the healthcare program that covers 75 million Americans, would increase from $393 billion this year to $464 billion in 2027—and that’s adjusting for inflation.

Yet Democrats are claiming this is a “cut” to the program. Only in Washington would anyone have the nerve to claim an 18 percent increase in government spending on top of inflation is a “cut.”

The reality is that the Senate’s healthcare bill, like the legislation passed by the House of Representatives, strengthens and reforms Medicaid.

Medicaid has seen out of control spending growth: twenty years ago, spending on the program was under $200 billion annually; within a decade, it is expected to top $1 trillion in total spending.

The Senate bill would refocus the program on the people it was designed to serve, who need the most help: the disabled, the elderly, and pregnant mothers and their children. It would give states the flexibility they need to serve those populations and come up with cost-saving, quality-improving innovations. It would also fix the flawed incentives that have driven out of control spending on Medicaid, while ensuring states have the resources they need to protect their vulnerable populations.

Missing Person In Ocean City Maryland *LOCATED*

One of my very best friends Cora Perez has been missing since yesterday (Friday June 30th) at 9am in Ocean City, Maryland. She was last seen walking alone wearing a bathing suit and flip flops. She is about 5"2' around 125lbs she has beautiful red curly hair and brown eyes. Police are on it. My heart is breaking for her and her family. I pray to god that she is safe and is found soon! I can't wait to hear her voice and give her a big hug again!!!! All we ask is that you SHARE THIS POST ALL OVER, the more this is shared the better chance we have of finding her!!!

TEEN MISSING FROM OCEAN CITY, MD HAS BEEN LOCATED!!

Remember All of Obamacare’s Broken Promises?

There were a lot of promises made in selling Obamacare—and it seems like just about all of them have been broken.

They told us if you liked your doctor, you could keep your doctor . . . and yet so many Americans have lost access to their doctors under new Obamacare insurance plans.

They told us if you if you liked your health insurance plan, you could keep it . . . and yet millions of Americans saw their insurance plans canceled because of Obamacare.

They promised that premiums would go down by $2,500 and that everyone in America would be covered. Here’s what President Obama guaranteed back when he was on the campaign trail:

“Our conscience cannot rest so long as nearly 45 million Americans don't have health insurance and the millions more who do are going bankrupt trying to pay for it. I have made a solemn pledge that I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family's premiums by up to $2,500 a year. That's not simply a matter of policy or ideology—it's a moral commitment.”

Both those promises have been broken too.

Far from covering every American, Obamacare has left 28 million uninsured.

In fact, despite all the disruption and the billions in spending, as of February 2017 Obamacare’s exchanges cover just 10.3 million people. That’s less than half the number of Americans the Congressional Budget Office estimated back in 2012 would be enrolled.

And premiums didn’t go down by $2,500 for the average family—they went up by nearly $3,000!

MAD MAXINE: WATERS SAYS 700 BILLION AMERICANS WILL LOSE HEALTHCARE IF OBAMACARE REPEALED

Claims Republicans "really know what they’re talking about.”

Democrat Maxine Waters has said some pretty crazy things during recent months. This may take the biscuit, however. On Wednesday evening Waters claimed that 700 BILLION Americans were at risk of losing healthcare coverage if Republicans replace Obamacare.

Waters made the comments on MSNBC, once again revealing how dotty Democrat leadership is.

When host Chris Hayes asked Waters how the Trump administration can claim that the proposed replacement bill will cut overall costs and increase coverage, she said it is “just not true.”

“Take, for example, the state of Kentucky. Almost one-third of those people in that state are covered by Medicaid, and so they’re talking about eliminating 700 billion,” she said, looking off camera, seemingly seeking confirmation, “in, uh, Trumpcare bill.”

“And so that’s no way that they can say that they’ll do more coverage than Obamacare, and so I don’t really know what they’re talking about.” Waters added.

Yeah, you heard her right, it’s the Republicans who don’t know what they’re talking about.

CBO’s Failed Obamacare Enrollment Projections

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has consistently failed to accurately predict how legislation will impact health insurance coverage. For example, in 2012, the CBO estimated that 25 million people would have coverage under Obamacare right now. According to a June 2017 report from HHS, only 10.3 million were actually enrolled. CBO’s guess was off by nearly 15 million people. And as the chart shows, CBO has consistently gotten it wrong.

The CBO’s history of inaccuracy is reason enough not to blindly trust its analysis of the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). In fact, CBO’s past inaccuracies contribute to its misleading analysis of insurance coverage under the BCRA. The starting point CBO uses to score the BCRA says that 15 million people should be enrolled through Obamacare’s exchanges right now – wrong again.

The CBO was wrong when it first analyzed Obamacare in 2010. And it was wrong when it updated its projections in 2012 and 2014. Even today, the CBO is using a starting point from 2016 to predict the impact of repealing and replacing Obamacare that has already been proven, well, wrong.

Food Benefits for 25,000 Students Being Mailed to Delaware Families through DHSS’ Summer EBT Program

NEW CASTLE – Electronic benefit cards with access to food benefits are arriving for 25,000 students through the Department of Health and Social Services’ Summer EBT Program. The program offers a way to support families in ensuring that their children have dependable access to food during the summer months.

The Summer EBT Program helps families buy healthy food during the summer for children who currently receive free or reduced-price meals at school. The food benefits are loaded on an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card for use during summer months when free or reduced-price meals through the school are not available. This is the fifth year that Delaware has been awarded a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to operate the program. This year’s grant is for $2.25 million.

Collaborating with the Delaware Department of Education, this initiative involves students in school districts from across the state in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. In 2012, the first year of the summer program, about 4,000 students in the Red Clay, Colonial, Christina and Appoquinimink school districts were served. The program has expanded each year since then.

Now You Can Choose ‘X’ as Gender on Drivers’ Licenses – We’re Doomed

Just when you think the world can’t get any more wonky, something has to come along and prove you wrong.

You can now choose to identify yourself as Male, Female, or “X” on your driver’s licenses. What does an “X” look like, exactly?

Life was so much easier before Tumblr’s need to validate any and every ridiculous notion.

Washington D.C. (you know, the freaking capital of America) has become the first jurisdiction in the United States to issue “gender neutral” driver’s licenses. Now if you don’t feel like a boy or a girl (sorry science, you’re going to have to take a back seat to feelings) you can be an “X.”

The Free Beacon reported on this cringe-worthy “progress.”

Greta van Susteren Is OUT at MSNBC

Greta van Susteren left Fox News and found a home at MSNBC. Unfortunately for her, she’s going to find herself in the market for another job after today, when she was “let go,” according to her husband.

In a five-word Tweet, van Susteren let her viewers and fans know that she would no longer be seen on MSNBC, but she did not elaborate, causing many to wonder if she was too conservative for the historically-liberal news network.

“I am out at MSNBC-” van Susteren tweeted on Thursday.

Stunning Study Shows Why Hillary Clinton REALLY Lost

Since November, much attention has been paid as to why Donald Trump won — and why Hillary Clinton lost. It was long assumed that Hillary would easily beat Trump, right up until the results came in on election night. Now, a new study is shedding some light on exactly what happened.

During the election, Hillary Clinton notoriously called Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables” — and the study says that this is one of the key factors that caused her defeat. The 8,000 person study was conducted by the Voter Study Group, looking into the Five Types of Trump Voter.

Five key groups were identified: American Preservationists, Staunch Conservatives, Anti-Elites, Free Marketeers, and the Disengaged. The Free Marketeers and Staunch Conservatives were steadfast Trump voters; Hillary was never going to be able to touch them. But they weren’t the groups that would have won the election for Hillary. Instead, it was the American Preservationists that gave Trump the win.

Pa. woman faces charges after OD forces doctors to deliver baby early, police say

BUTLER, Pa. -- A western Pennsylvania woman who was seven months pregnant is facing charges after she allegedly overdosed on heroin, forcing doctors to deliver her baby prematurely, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

According to police, Kasey Dischman, 30, was found unresponsive in her East Butler apartment in the early morning hours of June 23.

Dischman was found by her boyfriend, who said he kicked in a bathroom door, found her on the floor and then called 911. After being transported to Butler Memorial Hospital, Dischman went into cardiac arrest and needed to be revived in the emergency room.

As Dischman was transferred to Pittsburgh's UPMC Mercy Hospital unconscious and on a respirator, police with a search warrant found a needle hidden in the bathroom of her apartment.

White House Panel Asks States For Their Voter Rolls

A letter from Kris Kobach, the vice chairman of a White House commission looking into voter fraud and other irregularities, is drawing fire from some state election officials. The letter, sent Wednesday to all 50 states, requests that all publicly available voter roll data be sent to the White House by July 14, five days before the panel's first meeting.

The information requested includes the names, addresses, birthdates, political party (if recorded), last four digits of the voter's Social Security Number and which elections the voter has participated in since 2006, for every registered voter in the country.

Kobach, who is also Kansas' Republican secretary of state, did not say how the commission plans to use the data other than to help it "fully analyze vulnerabilities and issues related to voter registration and voting."

However, Kobach has long advocated comparing state voter rolls with other government databases to identify noncitizens or other illegitimate registrants. Voter advocacy groups say such comparisons are prone to error and worry that the effort will result in legitimate voters being purged from the rolls.

Service ID Helps Nab Burglary, Assault Suspect

OCEAN CITY — A Westminster man was arrested last week on first-degree assault and first-degree burglary charges after allegedly entering a downtown Ocean City residence and attacking the property owner.

Around 11:15 p.m. last Thursday, an Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) officer responded to a residence on 8th Street for a reported burglary and theft that had already occurred. The OCPD officer met with the victim, who had blood on his face and hands. The victim provided a description of his attacker and a neighbor who witnessed the end of the incident provided a similar description. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a gray shirt and black shorts. The witness told police the suspect had a prosthetic leg.

The victim told police he was walking from his bedroom to the bathroom when he observed the suspect, later identified as Dominic Balassone, 27, of Westminster, walking through his living room. The victim told police Balassone was carrying his personal property, including a model ship, his grandfather’s pocket watch and a geode rock.

German Lawmakers Approve Same-Sex Marriage

In a snap vote on Friday, members of Parliament voted to legalize same-sex marriage in Germany. Previously, civil unions were permitted but same-sex couples were not allowed to marry.

The legislation passed on a vote of 393 to 226. Four lawmakers abstained.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel paved the way for the vote earlier this week when she told members of her conservative bloc that they should vote their conscience, rather than the party line.

Merkel, who voted against same-sex marriage, says the opposite view must be respected. She has said she believes the country's law sees marriage as between a man and a woman.

US teen birth rate drops to all-time low

In the United States, teen-aged moms are increasingly rare. In 2016, the teen birth rate dropped 9% compared to the previous year, a new government report published Friday found. This record low for teens having babies continues a long-term trend.

The birth rate among teen girls has dropped 67% since 1991, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, which presented preliminary data for 2016 based on a majority (99.9%) of births.

In 2016, the number of US births totaled 3,941,109, a decline of 1% compared to 2015. The fertility rate of 62 births per 1,000 women is a record low for the nation.

The teen rate is a "phenomenal decline," said Dr. Elise Berlan, a physician in the section of adolescent medicine at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Berlan, who did not conduct this research, said the reason she's so excited is "because we know that the vast majority of teen births are unintended."

Protesters vow to block gas pipeline that would go under Potomac in Md.

WASHINGTON — Protesters are camping out for the summer in an effort to stop a natural gas pipeline that would run under the Potomac River in Maryland.

A coalition of protesters kicked off the effort Friday at McCoy’s Ferry, a campground along the C&O Canal between Hagerstown and Hancock.

The TransCanada Eastern Panhandle Expansion would originate in Bedford, Pennsylvania, cross Maryland west of Hancock, and terminate near Berkleley Springs, West Virginia. But there’s no benefit to Marylanders under the plan, said Mike Tidwell of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network.

“It’s not Maryland that’s selling the gas; it’s not Maryland that’s buying the gas,” Tidwell said. “It’s being sold from Pennsylvania and being used and purchased in West Virginia — yet Maryland has to take all the risk.”

The plan poses risks to the environment, Tidwell said. “We see it as a threat to drinking water. Six million people draw their drinking water from the Potomac River.”

WHAT'S YOUR THOUGHTS?

Editorial: School ratings plan a novel concept

If you want to know how good a restaurant or a movie is, you can visit a website like Yelp or Rotten Tomatoes for a simple rating system. But how do you determine that for a school?

Earlier this week, the Maryland State Board of Education approved a plan that would rank every public school in the state on a five-star rating system beginning next school year. The plan is part of the requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, or ESSA, which replaced the No Child Left Behind Act.

The ratings system — part of a larger plan that will be sent to the governor and state legislature for review this week, and ultimately must be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in September — presents a simple way for parents to get a feel for a whole school experience, rather than just test scores.

'Amazing Progress' Illinois Style: Welcome To The Obama Expressway!

Progress Illinois Style

Illinois has been without a budget for two years and its bonds, already the lowest in the nation, face a downgrade to junk.
On June 15, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner called a special 10-Day legislative session to finalize a budget.

We are now in the eighth day of the special session.

The Special Sessions Cost Illinois Taxpayers $50,000 a Day.
The special sessions have lasted from 10 to 23 minutes at the longest.

Progress was announced yesterday: My sources tell me that by an 84-0 vote, part of I-55 will be renamed the Obama Expressway.

Progress Extended

Today, the Wall Street Journal reports Illinois Governor to Extend Session if Lawmakers Miss June 30 Budget Deadline.

On Tuesday Mr. Madigan unveiled a $36 billion budget proposal but didn’t spell out how much taxes would have to increase to get the state’s fiscal house in order.

If a budget isn’t passed by Friday, credit-rating firms have warned they will downgrade the state’s rating to junk.

Rauner Already Caved In

An even more amazing part of this reconciliation process is that Rauner has already caved in. On June 21, I commented Governor Rauner Screws Illinois.

In exchange for virtually nothing, the Governor agreed to a massive tax hike.

Democrat state officials REFUSING to cooperate with voter fraud probe

Democratic state officials already are refusing to cooperate with the voter fraud investigation ordered by President Trump, saying they will not hand over the extensive “voter roll data” the commission is seeking.

The response comes after Kris Kobach, the Kansas secretary of state serving as vice chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, wrote to all 50 states this week asking for their input as well as voter registration data.

“I have no intention of honoring this request. Virginia conducts fair, honest, and democratic elections, and there is no evidence of significant voter fraud in Virginia,” Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe countered in a statement Thursday, claiming the commission is based on the “specious and false notion that there was widespread voter fraud last November.”

Why America's Deep South still has the highest HIV rates

Increased funding, targeted prevention efforts and better treatment have helped to slow down the HIV epidemic in the United States.

The number of new HIV-positive cases has decreased significantly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the number of new HIV diagnoses declining by 19 percent from 2005 to 2014.

This is not the case in many parts of the country, however.

As AIDS and public health researchers, we are among those who are alarmed by areas in the southern United States where the numbers of cases have not declined and even more by the areas in which increases have occurred.

In particular, we have seen some disturbing trends in Prince George's County, Maryland, where we do research on AIDS and health disparities.

These are similar to trends in other nonurban settings in the southern United States where a majority of African-Americans live.

Former teacher to serve 30 days for theft

Former Buckingham Elementary School teacher Dr. Steve Rorke will serve 30 days of a four-year jail sentence for 16 counts of theft, after being convicted of stealing from the Berlin Wal-Mart over an unknown period of time.

Judge Brian Shockley of Snow Hill Circuit Court had suspended most of the sentence last week. He also banned Rorke from that Wal-Mart and ordered him to pay $500 in restitution. That amount was agreed upon by his defense attorney, Michael Farlow, and Deputy State’s Attorney Bill McDermott.

“The Wal-Mart manager testified that he saw Mr. Rorke at least a year in advance, but since the [surveillance] videos only go back for three months, that’s what we know,” McDermott told the court last Friday. “The videos had a less than desirable quality, so the restitution reflects what could be proved.”

Rorke was charged with several counts of theft less than $100 and theft under $10,000 in September. He was acquitted of the felony charge by Shockley during his trial on April 11.

State police excused from Dalima Palmer trial

In the first action taken in months on the civil case between Dalima Palmer and state, county and local officials and others, the court determined both the Maryland State Police, and two unidentified officers who may have been state police, are protected from the suit on constitutional grounds.

The constitution’s 11th amendment exempts states from being sued or being found responsible for monetary damages without its consent. As there was no prior consent in the case, U.S. District Court Judge George Russell III dismissed the charges against those parties.

The state police were being sued by Palmer based upon the complaints she made against two officers (identified as “John Doe”) who stayed in the delivery room against her wishes as she gave birth. Palmer, according to court documents, doesn’t know the officers’ agency affiliation.

The incident that sparked the lawsuit is nearly four years old, and a portion of the altercation was captured on video and is available online via sites like YouTube.

It wasn’t difficult to figure out the culprit. Lin, a fullback, played on three soccer teams: her varsity high school squad, club ball in lower Manhattan and a recreation team. At times, she was playing the sport seven days a week.

Colorado Green Beret cleared of negligent homicide in 'Make My Day' case

A U.S. Army Green Beret who shot and killed a man who entered his Colorado Springs garage at night has been found not guilty of negligent homicide.

In November 2015 Robert Carrigan was shot three times in the back when he entered Michael Joseph Galvin’s home. The defense argued Carrigan lunged for Galvin’s pistol before the shooting, and that Galvin was protecting his family. Attorneys argued over whether or not Galvin’s actions were justified under Colorado’s “Make My Day” law, which protects homeowners who use deadly force against intruders they fear could harm them.

“I think the jury sent a clear message today that if someone is coming onto your property and is stealing things, you have the right to shoot them,” defense attorney Jeremy Loew told KRDO.

Pruden: The coming crash of the lawless media

The so-called Sullivan rule, which largely freed the media from pursuit by libel lawyers, is the gold standard in American newsrooms. Gold doesn’t collect tarnish. Nevertheless, thoughtful publishers, editors and libel lawyers warn that when anything goes and irresponsibility is regarded as a virtue, the media will eventually see its checks returned marked “insufficient funds.” It takes a clever man or institution to overdraw an unlimited checking account.

Sniping and rock-throwing at Donald Trump, a game that any number can play and nearly everybody does, has become a game with no rules and no referees, and worse, no editors to restrain obstreperous children breaking up the furniture.

CNN, once a fairly reliable source of news, with a weakness for trivia and given to peddling old news as the new thing, is now an inviting target for imaginative libel lawyers. Three of its most prominent editors and “producers” were sacked this week after the network was forced to retract and apologize for a story it made up about a confidant of President Trump, that he and his hedge fund was being investigated by the U.S. Senate for colluding with the Russians for nefarious purpose.

Mr. Trump predictably crowed “Fake news!” in his usual capital letters. This time he had a point.

Sarah Palin, once upon a time the Republican candidate for vice president, sued The New York Times this week for accusing her in an editorial of “inciting” the attack on Gabby Giffords, an Arizona congresswoman, that left her gravely wounded and six others dead. The New York Times said in an editorial that Mrs. Palin incited murder, because her political-action committee circulated a map with crosshairs imprinted over the districts of 20 Democratic congressmen targeted for defeat — not death — in the congressional elections of 2012. The newspaper retracted the editorial, without apology, the next day.

DE: Driver Fairness Bill Passes General Assembly

Dover, DE – On June 27, 2017, the Delaware State Senate voted nearly unanimously (20-1) to pass House Substitute 1 for House Bill 80 (“HS 1 for HB 80”). This measure, a substitute to the Department of Insurance’s original HB 80, targets unfair discriminatory practices used by automobile insurance companies to determine premium costs.

“For too long, automobile insurance companies have been using unfair practices to increase premiums,” said Commissioner Navarro. “As a candidate, I pledged to address this issue. While HS 1 for HB 80 was not all that the Department of Insurance was advocating for, it is a major step toward insurance premium fairness. I would like to thank my staff for their tireless efforts to craft this final version of the bill. I thank the bill’s prime sponsor Representative Trey Paradee who zealously advocated for Delaware consumers. I would also like to thank Senators Margaret Rose Henry and Brian Pettyjohn who served as the bill’s co-prime sponsors in the Senate. Finally, a debt of gratitude is owed to Senator Brian Bushweller who successfully managed the bill on the floor and guided it to victory.”

The following major changes will be imposed under this law:

McAuliffe spurns Trump panel's request for information on Virginia voters

Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on Thursday he has “no intention” of cooperating with a request from the Trump administration seeking detailed information about Virginia’s voters.

McAuliffe said Virginia and the 49 other states received a “lengthy request” on Thursday from Kris Kobach, vice chairman of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.

McAuliffe said it sought a list of all registered Virginia voters, the last four digits of their Social Security numbers, their addresses, dates of birth, political affiliations and voting histories, as well as other “vague inquiries” about Virginia’s election policies and laws.

“Virginia conducts fair, honest, and democratic elections, and there is no evidence of significant voter fraud in Virginia,” the Democratic governor said in a statement.

Delaware Supreme Court rules in favor of Harbeson garage

Charles Williams started his Fourth of July celebration early on June 30.

After six years of prolonged legal wrangling and court battles with his neighbors over his Harbeson garage, he relished the Delaware Supreme Court's decision in his favor.

“It's a relief,” he said. “I want to put it in the rear view mirror.”

The Delaware Supreme Court took 16 days to decide the matter. On June 30, Chief Justice Leo Strine and Justices Karen Valihura and James T. Vaughn Jr. affirmed the Court of Chancery decision in favor of Williams and his garage.

“The court having considered this matter on the briefs filed by the parties has determined that the final judgment of the Court of Chancery should be affirmed on the basis of and for the reasons assigned by the Court of Chancery in its memorandum opinion dated November 4, 2016,” the two-sentence order reads.

A Mom and Dad’s Worst Nightmare: European Court Sides with Hospital that Wants Infant to "Die with Dignity"

Stephen Green at Instapundit highlighted this story from overseas that should terrify parents in the U.S.

The European Court of Human Rights rejected a desperate plea by parents of an infant with a rare genetic condition to prevent a hospital from terminating life support on their child.

The parents want to take the child to America to undergo an experimental therapy. But the hospital wants the infant to "die with dignity" and refuses to allow it.

A Viewer Writes: Wicomico Waste Disposal

With all the derogatory comments lately about our government workers, I am compelled to rate the Wicomico Waste Disposal office force with a AAA+ rating. With only 2 days' notice of the need for new permits, they are doing an excellent job of issuing permits with dispatch. One thing I discovered.... you do not need to have a new form IF your renewal information is the same as last year.

Fatal Crash Investigated East of Seaford

Seaford - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred east of Seaford yesterday late afternoon.

The incident occurred around 5:57 p.m. Friday June 30, 2017 as a 57-year-old Seaford man was operating a 1997 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on Tharp Road approaching a sharp left curve at the intersection of Pineview Road. Due to an unsafe rate of speed, the operator was unable to maintain control of the vehicle while rounding the curve. As a result, the entire vehicle exited the south side of roadway into a grass yard while sliding in a counter-clockwise direction. The Jeep then re-entered the roadway and began to slide in a clockwise direction before traveling back off the south side of roadway where it overturned in the grass ejecting the operator. The Jeep then came to a stop on top of the driver, trapping him underneath.

The 57-year-old operator, who was not properly restrained, was extricated from under the overturned vehicle before being transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor.

Tharp Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Root of the Teenage Drug Problem

WASHINGTON, DC – Controversial author of the Fire Within believes that the current drug problem in America is a strong statement of the age in which we live, where ignorance and sensations are esteemed, not knowledge and reason. In his latest article, “Today’s Education: A Prerequisite to Self-Destruction,” he places the blame on educators.

By denying the supremacy of reason with anti-conceptual, anti-intellectual nonsense, teachers are creating disordered minds that can't integrate information conceptually. David points to the volumes of information (devoid of intellectual content and cohesion) that students must swallow in order to get through school.

"Being 'educated'," the The Fire Within author claims, "is memorizing a lot of names, dates and events that aren't linked meaningfully and correctly to any large historical overview." The result is the modern teenager--the babbling idiot--who can't intellectually integrate the "knowledge" he "learns," and who deals with his ignorance (and his mental confusion) by wiping out reality with drugs.

David believes the solution is to hire teachers with subject knowledge and a commitment to teaching thinking skills. "A healthy mind," David said, "dedicated to the joys of learning in a truly intellectual sense, is not a mind that needs to obliterate reality with drugs."

Joe David, a former teacher and author of The Fire Within, Teacher of the Year, and four other books, has taught for 14 years in public and private schools.

Survey Says: 87% Of Us Think Auto Makers Should Improve Fuel Economy

You may really like cars, or driving, but if you’re like most people you probably don’t actually enjoy buying or pumping gas. It’s expensive, tedious, smelly, and flammable, and a new survey finds that a vast majority of us would prefer if our cars could be more efficient so we wouldn’t have to fill ’em up as often.

Sudden Death for Obama Overtime Rules

The Trump administration will not defend President Obama's proposed regulations that would have doubled the threshold at which companies must pay white collar workers overtime.

On Friday the Department of Labor announced that it would not appeal a temporary injunction that blocked it from enforcing regulations that would have forced companies to grant overtime to any employee earning less than $913 a week, double the existing baseline of $455. A federal judge appointed by President Obama blocked the regulation in November, saying that the department misinterpreted Congress's intention for overtime rules set forth in the Fair Labor Standards Act.

"Congress intended the EAP [executive, administrative, or professional] exemption to depend on an employee's duties rather than an employee's salary," Judge Amos Mazzant said in the ruling. "Nothing in the EAP exemption indicates that Congress intended the Department to define and delimit with respect to a minimum salary level."

Strapping Dressers, Bookshelves, Lamps, Cleaning Supplies, A TV, & A Bike To Your Minivan Will Probably Get You Pulled Over

Just because you can arrange every item you own into a patchwork rooftop tower of furniture, household items, cleaning supplies, blankets, and bungee doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. The best you can say about it is that your efforts will make for a good photo when the police pull you over.

Rep. Harris Applauds Passage of Kate’s Law and No Sanctuary for Criminals Act

WASHINGTON, DC: On June 29, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3003, the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, and H.R. 3004, Kate’s Law. These bills will improve public safety by combating dangerous sanctuary city policies and strengthening penalties for deported criminal immigrants who re-enter the United States. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) issued the following statement in support of these bills and their passage:

“I am proud to have voted for the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law. These bills are commonsense solutions to preventing crime and keeping the American people safe. For years, the Obama Administration allowed criminal illegal immigrants to roam our streets and harm innocent Americans. Kate Steinle, the namesake of Kate’s Law, was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in San Francisco – a sanctuary city. The man that killed Ms. Steinle had been deported and re-entered the United State five times – and if the San Francisco government had not allowed criminal immigrants to walk freely in its city, Kate would still be with us today. The Federal Government must enforce the rule of law, and owes justice to the families of victims like Kate, whose death could have easily been prevented.”

Governor Larry Hogan Announces Multi-Agency Efforts to Reduce Lead Poisoning, Asthma Cases

State Departments of Health, Environment, and Housing to Direct $7 Million to Local Communities

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has approved an application by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to launch a $7.2 million initiative to reduce lead poisoning and improve asthma, two conditions related to environmental conditions in housing. The department, in collaboration with the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, will implement the initiative.

“This funding is a major step forward in our efforts to prevent these health problems and provide a healthy and safe environment for all Marylanders," said Governor Hogan. “This funding is a major step in preventing these health problems and providing a healthy and safe environment for our most vulnerable citizens.”

“We know that housing conditions can severely affect a child’s health, and this program would enable us to get to the root of the problems for many children,” said Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dennis Schrader. “It would go beyond merely treating a child with asthma or lead poisoning – it would seek to prevent exposures to the triggers, causes and social determinants of these conditions, which is the best means of preventing the lifelong impacts of these diseases.”

“At the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, we work every day to ensure Marylanders have access to safe and healthy housing,” said Secretary Kenneth C. Holt. “We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with the departments of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Environment.”

"We are making progress but have much more to do to win the battles against childhood lead poisoning and asthma in Maryland,” said Maryland Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles. “The Hogan administration is committed to enforcing Maryland’s lead law and improving the quality of our air for the health and well-being of all Marylanders, and this initiative helps on both counts.”
