People don't just slip through cracks... it's through others' negligence, criminal teachers have access to your children. Concerned?
Granted, we must grant the presumption of innocence to any defendant and Monica Snee is no exception; however, what does this say about the Wicomico County Board of Education and their vetting process for teachers and others within the schools who are around your children day in and day out?
While the WCBOE does do an FBI background check with fingerprints and all on teachers and substitutes, it's clearly not enough to prevent your child from being subject to an teaching drug dealer. Obviously, it would appear with this particular hiring, the powers that be didn't scrutinize any local court records for any criminal behavior. It also proves they don't do continual background follow-up like federal agencies perform on their employees (and families) every 3-4 years.
Is it really enough for your children's teachers to not be just child molesters?
All we ever hear about is the teachers who make inappropriate sexual advances and situations of extreme like the Snee case but nothing is ever said about other behaviors that would likely violate ethics clauses and cause parents to be concerned about who is around and teaching their kids for 6-7 hours a day, five days a week, 9 months a year. That's a lot of face time to not be worried about the possible criminality a teacher could be imparting on your kids.
This lack of due diligence isn't just happening in education. The medical field has the same problem in their vetting. You would be shocked at some of the medical personnel sent to people's homes to care for the elderly who possess misdemeanor convictions for identity theft and simple robbery. Earlier this summer, we saw where one Dove Point residential care person was indicted for first degree murder. Yet, many agencies still employ these people because they hold the appropriate licenses to provide home healthcare and nursing home facilities and are not on the federal law enforcement radar.
How many other teachers are out there with issues like protective orders for domestic violence or drug dealing convictions or identity theft? Do we even know? Does anyone at the WCBOE even know? Can we really depend on the local Board of Education to vet teachers or do we now have to it ourselves at the beginning of every school? Isn't that what we pay them to do with our tax money - regardless of whether we have school-age children or not?
Let's face it, the community doesn't practice that whole presumption of innocence thing. They judge people after the crime when they should be looking at teachers and healthcare providers more thoroughly than they do. This woman has been trouble a long time but WCBOE still hired her. Guess it must be hard to find Special Ed teachers.
ReplyDeleteThey have more important things to do - like bathroom ungendering and taking parents' rights away from them. See DE BOE Reg 225.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the BOE isn't any better under this new woman who was supposed to deliver a higher level of education than that disaster before her. Seems like it would be a good idea to have her position as an elected position, too.
ReplyDeleteIs this any different for the WCBOE than the girl who killed herself because of bullying? The school system didn't do anything to the bullies. They're alive and she's dead. That's a pretty good indictment there, Thornton.
ReplyDeleteLook, ALL of you allow the standards for hiring to be lowered to allow for people like this. We allowed the standards to be lowered for a President that could not pass a security clearance. Obama, would or could never pass a security clearance - but we allow people like this to run our country. We drop standards in schools so "No Kid is Left Behind" in the name of being fair - or not being racist. We allow gangs in schools, because if not we are racists. We allow cops to be killed because of racism.
ReplyDeleteAN YOU wonder why - this happens? its no the BOE - Its YOU, for not standing up to being called a racist, not stopping the free give aways, not stopping the over flowing immigration issue, because your afraid of being unfair, or a "RACIST"
ALL the Democraps want these illegals for, BLM, Accorn, whatever, are tools to push their rich asses to power.
BLAME YOU - for not being American, with a back bone.
11:42-Keep some of that blame for yourself. What have you done, troll?
DeleteWith the low numbers of civilized students in our school system we cannot hire teachers because they fear for their safety.
ReplyDeleteHold on a second there, 1143, are you insinuating the education board is just hiring any old person because they can't get good teachers due to safety issues? Seriously?
ReplyDelete1150, there is a ton of truth to 1143s claim. Would you want to teach at jmb or wihi?
Delete11:50 AM - Seriously
ReplyDeleteWCBOE is so corrupt nobody can seem to fix it.
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful my kids never went to Wicomico County schools. We probably need more private schools around here because the public schools have failed the local kids miserably.
ReplyDeleteI had PO against someone at BMS staff and was told I was the one who had to wait outside! Alerted school and they said they can’t help PO’s. What?!
ReplyDeleteMay I add it was for DV against a child...and second on her
DeleteWasn’t the appointment of John Palmer (one of the founding fathers of VOICE) suppose to clean up the corruption within the WCBOE?
ReplyDeleteSEASIDE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
ReplyDeleteI hate to keep harping on this but I still believe that the past 8 years of obama is responsible for a lot of this crap . We used to have a decent America
ReplyDeleteand we kept things in check. As bad as Busch was it doesn't compare to the communist regime of obama. I've seen a lot of leaders starting with Truman till now , obama is only compared to a snake(the devil) , his legacy is what? Nothing!
Anyway , obama separated the whites and blacks again , he hated the law and the cops , he loved the drugs and the dealers , he didn't think much of education . Should I go on and hope Trump can a least fix some of his crap. If not the NRA army will.
All the doctors, lawyers and well to do professionals here send their kids to Salisbury School. Those kids get an advanced and competitive education and leave here and never look back. They don't waste their money or their children's futures on cultish Christian Academy's lol rodeo camp schools. All these dopes from elsewhere that retired here don't want to pay tax at all much less school tax. This whole community has gone down the shitter and we let them do it. All for greed I hope those that think they got rich are happy. It's all so charming now.
ReplyDeleteThis case is yet another wake-up call to parents and society. It's time to raise the standards for teachers, students, and parents. Our society has been downgraded by the last 8 years of lawlessness but things can be better because now there is someone at the top who is accountable.
ReplyDeleteBlack citizens must recognize the Democrats do not care about them and that money for nothing is not helping; but is leading to the destruction of American society because there is no self-pride anymore. Gimme Gimme!!
I agree!
DeleteWho is the director of special education?? That person needs to be fired
ReplyDeleteGovernment/Public Schools have Failed students and parents for Many years and continue to do so. Home School is the best...Figure it out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe when Paul Butler returns from his pyramid scheme indoctrination he will respond to these comments. That is what he is paid to do.
ReplyDeleteAre the teachers, staff, and board members drug tested regularly? If not, why not?
ReplyDeleteAre the teachers, staff and school board employees drug tested on a regular basis? If not, why not?
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that the background check is done at time of hiring. So I may be perfectly clean when I am hired, but several years later I change. So is the BOE supposed to constantly monitor everything their employees do? Do you want your employer constantly checking up on you. Furthermore, just like ANY other field of employment, not EVERY employee is going to be a good one. Should we be vigilant when we see something? Absolutely. Clearly someone saw her doing something wrong and reported it, hence why the police were investigating. So come up with a solution...what should be done? Yearly background checks (possible invasion of privacy/4th amendment violation)? Watch-dog groups (which will likely become politicized and become witch hunt groups)? Is this a bad thing? ABSOLUTELY. But that's also why we have the justice system. She will be punished for her crime. I just don't know what more the WCBOE as an employer could have done. As soon as she was suspected, the investigation began. What more do you want?
ReplyDeleteNo one saw her "supposedly", someone who was using her product like most who get on trouble rolled over on her to avoid their own jail time. A county/city FULL is sellouts
Delete731. When someone is printed under an agency there is an authorization number attaches.so any time a oerson is arrested and alert report comes back to the agency. So yes they should monitor staff for arrest after hired
ReplyDelete@7:31 yes there should be drug testing and yearly background checks. There are plenty of employers that do this. The justice system is so backed up it is unreal. The citizens are to bring light so that the justice system can do its job, therefore, the BoE should require this. There should also be a scale of what is acceptable or not. No one will criticize a credit issue, speeding ticket, etc. If there are DV, PO, Criminal charges, there should be a degree of what is acceptable or not. Had the review been completed on Snee then they would have seen the charges. Unfortunately, because the DA is swamped, a lot of cases go Nolle Pros and can't be used against the individual even if they have 5 of same thing year after year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the comments, but, the children problem begins at home. Don't blame teachers for unruly children, that starts in the home with parents who should set an example. Many are seeing parents with chips on their shoulders and the kids pick it up and think everyone should cater or tip toe around their feelings. Parents think the schools are places for babysitting. The children should show respect and go with the intent of being taught not loafing the day away until 3:30 p.m.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, another wandering vine comment thread because people don't READ the article, they just do an instant judgment based on the title and perhaps the picture attached. No one said in the article that parents are blameless - it is actually an accusal of the Board of Education for NOT doing their due diligence when it comes to vetting teachers who are with your children for 6-7 hours a day.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this so hard for some to comprehend?
Some of have issued comments stating that would simply take too much time to revet teachers and have them drug tested every year. Question: How many FBI agents are in the Federal government? Around 10K. Right. And how many teachers are in Wicomico County? Is it over 10K?
Maybe instead of hiring publicists for a staggering $90K a year plus benefits and renting a building in the Millions for the lease, perhaps it would've been a wiser move to hire someone to perform background checks all day on employees! It would go a lot further towards keeping your kids safe than a publicist or rented office space would - yet, you continue to make excuses where none are legitimate. Use your noodles, poodles... you're looking pretty daft here!
Thornton, that paul butler 96k slap in the face could have paid for a couple teachers to reduce the obscene class sizes. But yes, i think background checks should happen randomly too.
DeleteCould you look into the insane class size issue for us TC?

No need to "insinuate." There are very few teachers who want to teach at Parkside. It has the reputation including on the other side of the bay bridge as being nasty and full of thugs. Now this.
Let's see which local news organizations show up at the board of education meeting on 12/12/17 and demands answers as to why this person was allowed to continue teaching after at least 4 charges over the last 10 years. Those charges include a theft scheme, assault, malicious destruction, peace order, and domestic violence, all while teaching in Wicomico County. Why hasn't these news organizations demanded that the board of education make the president of the board available to answer questions. I guess we shall see who shows up on Tuesday and putting their foot down for answers.
