Hallmark Channel Christmas Movies Under Fire for “Caucasian Cheer”

A lot of our readers enjoy watching The Hallmark Channel. It’s a throwback to an age when Hollywood was producing family-friendly films.

The network consistently broadcasts movies that have narratives promoting faith, family and patriotism — stories that tug at your heartstrings.

Viewership has skyrocketed since President Trump was elected — up 16 percent since January. It’s obvious that television viewers crave programming that celebrates the values that make America great.

But not everyone is a fan of The Hallmark Channel.

Slate published a scathing review of the network — complaining about its around-the-clock Christmas movies.

“They brim with white heterosexuals who exclusively, emphatically, and endlessly bellow “Merry Christmas” to every lumberjack and labradoodle they pass. They’re centered on beauty-pageant heroines and strong-jawed heroes with white-nationalist haircuts,” the Slate writer declared.

There were complaints about the lack of gay people and feminists and Muslims in The Hallmark Channel’s movies.

Slate also whined about what it called the network’s “42 hours of sugary, sexist, preposterously plotted, plot hole–festooned, belligerently traditional, ecstatically Caucasian cheer.”

“The Christmas-down-your-throat bombast, holly-jolly sexism, the characters’ zaniness and unyielding impulsiveness—it’s all very Trumpian behavior,” the Slate writer said.

  1. No one wants to watch those Homos, and Muslims in our wholesome family movies. The queers only make up 1% of out country and the Muslims another 1%, screw them, majority rules!

  2. Look...this is the way to a good life. If you want single parent homes and women getting abused then follow the public school life and all they preach at those schools by the lazy help there.

  4. Hallmark channel has been showing these Christmas movies for years starting around Thanksgiving. Why is anyone complaining? I am not going around complaining about the Logo Channel and Vice Channel showing perversion 24/7. As 5:25 stated if you don't like it don't watch it. What will the creeps from Slate complain about when the jihadists take over and behead them?

  6. If you don't like ours, make your own that's better! Go ahead, blow us off the charts! Make so many better ones that ours look like child's play.

No one is stopping you. It's a free country and I wish you the best!

  10. The (wife beating) Gov of Delaware won't likely be featured anywhere on Hallmark. Has anyone expected anything else?

  13. It's really unfair to attack Hallmark. It has always been a sappy, saccharine, nostalgic fantasy. It's their brand. Even back in the day when people thought that was the life they were living it was far from true. It's like the Franklin Mint and Currier and Ives, Norman Rockwell and Thomas Kinkade paintings none of it represented anything that ever was and that's ok let's just not politicize it and attack peoples notions and taste. It's not polite but there again what is anymore.
