Poll: Majority of LGBTQ Americans Report Harassment, Violence Based On Identity

More than half of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Americans say they have experienced violence, threats or harassment because of their sexuality or gender identity, according to new poll results being released Tuesday by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
"There are very few nationally representative polls of LGBTQ people, and even fewer that ask about LGBTQ people's personal experiences of discrimination," says Logan Casey, deputy director of the survey and research associate in public opinion at the Harvard Chan School. "This report confirms the extraordinarily high levels of violence and harassment in LGBTQ people's lives."

  1. Well, isn't that a simple reason to keep it to yourself instead of shoving it down everyone and their children' throats?

Some sort of ostracism is to be expected...your actions are not natural - in line with evolution/mother-nature...or religious teachings.
Don't get me wrong - I don't condone harassment, abuse, or discrimination...and have friends in most of these categories - but this will continue as long as it is highlighted by the offended parties.

Like the race wars already underway in this country...as long as we can have a NAACP but not a NAAWP and race-baiting politicians to further the cause!

    1. What 902 is really trying to say is that the Somalis will eat you. Literally.

  4. Just because they 'report' their tender feelings being hurt doesn't make it harassment. The definition of 'sexual harassment' has become so broad that even touching someone's arm is claimed.

There are times and instances that are clearly sexual and clearly persistent. Others that are not.

One might wonder how these folks respond to approaches by other queer people, vs incidents involving straight people.

  6. It's fake I don't believe it for a minute... I have cancelled cable and Hulu because most tv shows are young men kissing each other. I don't care but I don't want to watch it. 2 PERCENT of the population are gay or lesbian. .01 percent are transgender. HOWEVER 98 PERCENT will be forced to except it without disagreement or be FIRED,ASSAULTED,PUBLIC RIDICULE,BULLIED and the list goes on. Facts are facts. I ignore it and don't want anything to do with it... Thank you obama for for fooling most of the country:/

  10. Sorry that we all are equal opportunity offenders! If you must stand out, we will then be offensive! Human nature at its best!

  11. Evolutionary.
Strange, deviant, and unusual are, by nature, excluded from the group and ostracized. Protecting the gene pool. Avoiding danger. Strengthening the group.
Be as whack as you want.
Just understand that no one has to like it, accept it, or copy it to make you feel better about your whackness.
And no one has a right to beat you to death for it either.
    Except in Mississippi and Alabama.
You are on your own there......
