This is a puzzler. Website's down, streaming down. Still owned by Rothschild, according to station registration information. Email bounced back - no such addressee.
It was just sold....new owners are relocating the signal. It's currently still in the Rothschild building but they (Rothschild) are no longer concerned about how it's operated...neither are the new owners...at least not yet. Word is, it's going gospel and will sell block programming to local churches
What's the grand mystery? It's clear the station has closed up shop and no longer transmitting. Find alternatives for talk radio. You can download apps to your smartphone to listen to Conservative talk radio all day long, broadcasting from cities who don't have fly-by-night radio owners. It's crappy what the management at WICO did and reflects badly on them. They should have been forthright and just said they were closing instead of stealing away into the night.
RADIO IS DEAD. Or will soon be. Ask a person under the age of 30 if they listen to radio. Go into a store and try to find a simple AM/FM radio. How many of us just listen to XM/Sirus in our cars or Spotify or Pandora?
Cumulus and iHeart are in deep financial trouble. Smartphones and podcasts are destroying regular radio listening. Maybe you don't use a smartphone, but I can almost guarantee you that very few if any youngsters listen to FM or AM radio- are are extremely unlikely to start doing so anytime soon.
I don't miss Billy Boy Clinton and am thankful every minute of the day his spouse failed so bad she is still crying. Darn I hate to be like that. Still can't get the grin off my face since November.
The sad part about this is WICO has been around for decades. It was a standard in radio here on the Shore and it's a shame it's gone bust. The new owners won't care about this community because they're probably not from here. Instead, this will just end up being a little fish gobbled up by some huge conglomerate which couldn't care less what this town wants or needs. Sure, many have alternatives for conservative talk radio but the icon WICO once was is gone forever.

ReplyDeleteYou mean the morning drive show with the local Puss n' Boots extravaganza didn't save the ailing station? Go figure.
