Treasury Secretary: Putting Harriet Tubman On $20 Not A Priority

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Last April, the Treasury Department announced that Harriet Tubman would become the first black woman on U.S. paper currency.

There has never been a set time for when the new $20 bill will be issued, but the department had committed to completing the design for it by 2020.

But in an interview Thursday, current Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said getting the bill changed is not something he’s focused on.

“Ultimately we will be looking at this issue, [but] It’s not something that I’m focused on at the moment,” he said, noting that he’s more concerned with anti-counterfeiting features on paper money.

  3. This change is going to be costly and. I'm sure that 2/3 of the population have no idea who she was or what she did. I am offended by this change for the reason it is being done

  5. If they want to do away with everything associated with slavery, don't they also have to get rid of this?

  7. Who the hell would want this on a bill of any denomination. For what reason, does she have family wanting to bring up the past? I am offended by the thought of this subject on my bills.

  9. I'd rather see an Eagle, buffalo or american indian like some of the old large format dollars from the 1800's. Other countries have much more attractive money and some of it is waterproof. All coins less than 0.25 could be done away with.

  11. The democrats if they weren't ALL lying hypocrites would be against having Tubman on anything. She was a gun carrier who threatened to shoot in other words MURDER anyone who had a change of heart or was frightened and wanted to turn back. In other words she approved of violence to get what she wanted. Typical democrats though will lie and never tell this side of her story.

  14. She was a law breaker and you cannot remove names and statues then have her on currency. Double standard.
