Salisbury Mayor Jake Day Formally Divorces Wicomico County

In a formal meeting this week, Mayor Jake Day has in fact cut ties with Wicomico County's Planning and Zoning department.

So why is this a big deal, well, it's HUGE! As I stated last week, the County provides multiple services to the City from this department, including the Fire Marshal. The department cost County taxpayers $1,700.000.00 a year. Two years ago the City paid the County $150,000.00 a year but last year, out of nowhere they reduce their commitment down to $100,000.00 a year without notice.

No smart business person out there would ever consider making such a move because the cost to the City taxpayers will be astronomical. Heck, just a Fire Marshal alone will cost a small fortune but remember, the City was only paying the County $100k for EVERYTHING! The new Fire Marshal will require an exclusive vehicle and get this, it will even include a GUN.

It's important ALL of you know, County Executive Culver kept everything available for Day to change his mind and stay with the County Planning and Zoning Department. Jake is determined to ACT as if he is more important and more powerful then the County Executive. He has shown NO RESPECT for Culver and the position he holds.

Mayor Day is completely restructuring City Government and what is so interesting to me is just how arrogant he's been about doing it. It's almost as if he's doing just like Barrie Tilghman and Jim Ireton, they didn't give a crap about what you think because no matter what happens, no matter who runs against them, they're going to win every election even if everyone hates how they conduct themselves. This is going to cost taxpayers BIG TIME!

I have another breaking article coming some time later today.

  3. This will turn into a huge debacle just like everything else the loser has ever done and people will be right their to rub the Told You So's right in his face. I don't know if he is arrogant but he certainly is one dumb SOB.

  4. This is a power grab. Culver better watch his back. Day wants to take over the county.

  5. This is being done with his right hand.. watch his left hand hiding behind his back : I smell MONEY...

  6. Sure "hope" Day doesn't get desperate and follow suit with using city Salisbury pension funds to cover his Asinine decisions and act in haste to avoid the embarrassment of constantly being wrong

  7. It's the mayor's JOB to hire people.

  8. Years ago, when I moved to the Salisbury area to take a nice IT position with a local chicken company, I made the decision not to live inside the city limits because of the piggy-back tax!

Since then, the taxes have gotten worse, the chicken company has had multiple IT layoffs and restructured their IT department...so glad I'm not working there any more!

  9. And why has Culver sat on his hands? Kick them out of the GOB

  10. Bob Culver if you don't throw him out you ain't getting our vote Again.

  11. When this is all said and done it will be the biggest clusterf*** Salisbury has ever seen. If I were a city employee I would definitely organize a meeting and walk into one of the council meetings and put day on the spot demanding some realistic answers to his constant decisions that will put such a financial strain on the city. You think it can't happen when in fact it rampant nationwide

  12. As a contractor that does work in Salisbury i sure hope the city fire Marshall thing doesn't happen. There's already two fire marshalls in Salisbury now. State and county ones. And the county fire marshalls are easily the best ones to deal with out of all the ones on Delmarva. Salisbury leaders are a complete joke.

  13. He certainly doesn't mind spending City taxpayers money. Does Jake Day pay any City real estate taxes?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Day is incredibly stupid or underhanded. City taxpayers should be hopping mad. City taxpayers also pay county taxes. They're already paying for things like the county zoning department. Now Day is creating duplicate departments and adding costs. The budgeted amount paid to the county by the city was for add-ones that benefitted city residents, exclusively. Recent mayors have systematically disassembled departmental efficiencies for service delivery in favor or empire building. The IT department was one glaring example.

  15. Bob Culver needs to Let the County work the County and let the City do its own with no help from the County. When the County is called to assist then their should be a pro-bono of $2,000 per incident under 1hr and $1,500 an hr every hour or portion of an hour there after. This includes cancelling all money the County gives for SFD and taking back all assets and property own by the County that the City has illegally confiscated. You have to also evict the City from the County office Bldg and sue for back rent and the City's share of maintenance plus all other expenses the City had a responsibility to pay. Remove all parking meters from County property. Bob You need to help all citizens in the County. When the City decides to get a Mayor of responsibility then draw up another agreement with strict guidelines and enforcement. Bob you are allowing Cannon, Gillis and the "good ole boys" destroy you and the County.

  16. I live just outside City Limits, so I can't help, but somebody had better start the petition to get this idiot out of office PDQ! He, Duncan, and his Buds on the Council will have your property values at absolute ZERO and you owing tax you can't afford to pay in a VERY short time!

This is an EMERGENCY situation, folks, and you had better take your own action, because asking for a change from the Council is being a sheep asking the pack of wolves what's for lunch!

  17. Politics over practicality. Day is a blight on Salisbury and should be removed from office ASAP. He has proven beyond any doubt his incompetence is present and ever growing. Salisbury residents pay taxes to the county, too and now they're being deprived of what they've paid for because of a very small man whose ego has become overinflated and grossly overrated. He doesn't have the chops to be in any elected position. Go back to your chicken family, Jake.

  18. A lot of city slickers bought sub par property to retire here in the " Comfort " of Eastern Shore living and have since pulled out and moved closer to their children and their grandchildren in more sophisticated more prosperous and safer places with better property appreciations less crime violence and some semblance of civil culture. All greed ! So called progress and development has taken a once nice place and turned it into a turd like Glen Burnie.

  19. Well, on the bright side, this totally voids the Fire Service Agreement. If for nothing else, this is a good thing. '

Aside from that, Jake and the entire Council needs to be replaced ASAP!

And I mean in the next MONTH, not in the next election!

  20. Typical liberal. Refuse to pay the bills you have accrued. Always wanting someone else to foot the bill.

    ReplyDelete
  21. He wants to do it all on his own without paying his bills toss his a$$ out of the GOB building.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is nothing but duplication of services, adding more cost. The county has a professional Fire Marshall Team. I hope this doesn't go through. I'm a small contractor who does work in the city and county, and I'm totality against this. This is craziness.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Doing this before his big festival flop was a brilliant move. Bob cut that bastard off. Let him work out of his home until he finds new rentals for his staff.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What is Day's REAL agenda? He has created too many duplicative & unneeded positions, departments & youth programs and other events. Why? Why waste money to duplicate instead of partner with those already doing the work? They could not only spend money wiser but also impact more people. Salisbury is a huge disgrace in Annapolis. The County & City fighting is too. Kick the City out so they can have a real City Hall instead of claiming the County building in which they have don't seem to contribute anything. Let them support themselves and see how fast they fall. I can't wait for elections this next time!

  25. Tear up the fire service agreement, let the city handle its own. They don't want county volunteers anyway, hell they ran off over 2/3 of the active force when station 1 left, station 2 is almost non existent and station 16 has a volunteer roster but not one firefighter in the group. T shirt wearing wanna bes . It's time to grow a pair Bob Culver and show the city it's just an island in the county. Charge the city anytime the county fire departments have to assist the city. They claim there is no problem is the Salisbury city fire department, but they can't man 1/3 of the apparatus they have now. The surrounding county stations don't want to run to Salisbury every call, but the county because if this agreement is not using the firefighters who left and got their own station and equipment by raising their own funds by working for it. Yet you give money to the city for free. Wth ? Time to gat station 13 out and tell that mayor and wanna be fire chief hoppes either you use station 13 cause they are closer or you get no help from the county. Believe it or not Jake Day doesn't have crap to do with county operations . Now act on it Bob before it's too late. Start telling baby boy Day what he is going to get or he will get nothing from the county. Stop letting the dog wag the tail.

  26. "The new Fire Marshal will require an exclusive vehicle and get this, it will even include a GUN."

    ===

That is scary, that is real scary. Eric Cramer wouldn't make a pimple on the a$$ or a real Fire Marshal. Just like Rick Hoppes wouldn't make a pimple on the a$$ of a real fire chief. Two fat slobs that need to start spending time in the $million dollar gym in the $14 million dollar fire station with multiple cracks in the floor with toxic fumes leaking through.

Jake Day needs to seriously think this through and think it through again. The City Council needed to think this through.

I want to know what our new Libertarian, oops, I mean Republican City Council Vice President Muir Bota thinks about this whole situation. Has anyone with any sense talked to our converted Republican.

This is extremely Assine and has to be stopped. Just because that little boi wannabe Mare wants his own kingdom he is ruining the years of co-opperation between the city and the county. Shame on Jake Day. I am sick and tired of my city running off the volunteers and hiring.

Jake Day is ruining this City, not Barb. Jake needs to go and the new Mayor needs to get rid of Barb and the fat guys at the far Deeparmint.

  28. If the Fire Marshal needs a gun the make the Fire Marshal fall under the police department.

I think Detective Jason King would make a good Fire Marshal.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Bob Culver, you better stop letting Jake Day run over you like a steam roller , no one will support a weak executive to run this county. Let Day know he doesn't run the county. It's also time for this county council to work with and support the office of county executive no matter who is in office or you can be replaced by a new county council next election.

  30. Now the City of Salisbury is really duplicating services. They don't need a fire marshal. The County has the Chief Fire Inspector and the State of Maryland has the Fire Marshals Office in the Paul Martin Government Office Building where the new Court House is. They have a full compliment of Fire Marshals on duty 24 hours a day that covers Wicomico County. So in a sense Salsibury will be triplicating services. This is absolutely not needed and it will cost the tax payers way to much money. Please prepare to purchase enough Vasoline Ladies and Gentleman because you are about to get a major F******G!.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shame on Bob Culver for not kicking Jake Days a$$ and the City out of the Wicomico County Government Office Building a long time ago. It should have happened when Jim Ireton was threatening with the Nuclear Option.

Maybe it's time to give the City a Nuclear Option.

BINGO! Any intelligent person with a brain can see that. Why do you think the news interviewed Jake Day about Poplar Hill Pre-Release closing and not Bob Culver. The media should have contacted the County executive because Poplar Hill Pre-Release is in the county and not the city. Not even close to the city. It appears the media is on board with Fake Day and they need to be stopped.
