MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A coroner has determined that a 1-month-old boy who died at his home was killed by a family dog.
Authorities say the baby was found dead Sept. 20 in his bassinet at the Knox County home about 60 miles northeast of Columbus. County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle said Wednesday that the baby suffered extensive injuries, including puncture wounds to his head.
Ogle’s news release said the autopsy revealed no trauma from any source other than a dog. The release said the infant was healthy and well cared for prior to his death.
The family’s two dogs, described as “pit bull, or a pit bull mix,” have been euthanized.

so sorry. so sad. Please don't come on here and defend pit bulls. "its all in how they are raised", "they are very gentle around my kids", etc. PUHHHHHHHHHLEEEEEEESE don't make a damn fool of yourself.
ReplyDeletePits Bulls like male Rottweilers and certain other breeds are inheritantly dangerous and should never be trusted around children or the elderly. How many times have you every heard of any other breed killing someone? I mean, really - this has happened far too often all over the country.
I support any jurisdiction that bans "dangerous breeds", which translates to Pit Bulls. They should be hunted down and exterminated.
Still don't agree? OK, that is your right but read the article again and put yourself in that family's plight. Go ahead. A damn shame. And so unnecessary. Can't believe the family even had a baby in the home.
7:17 is exactly right. Inherent is the key word. Pit Bull types are inherently dangerous because their instincts tell them to kill. Only those ignorant to canine genetics think you can "love" an inherent trait out of a dog. While a breeds' traits may lie dormant you can never know what will trigger them or when.
ReplyDeleteWill defend as I am and have been a pit owner. Mine are well cares for and know who leads this pack. With that being said I would never leave any dog alone with a baby just because an animal is just that. Hypocritical statement but in truth I wouldn't leave my cat with my infant nor my Bassett hound. To be honest I stressed over my cat more then my dog. A lot missing to this story if you ask me. As always the dog pays the price. Again they are all animals. The pit fact means nothing. Now let the bashing begin. My experience my opinion. Doesn't mean any one needs to agree.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for this families loss. Do not mean to be cruel, however, how could the father not hear this attack in progress? I am sure the dog or dogs were making lots of growling noises while the attack was taking place.

ReplyDelete9:55 there are some breeds of dogs who have never attacked children or at least as long as the CDC has been keeping records which has been decades now. While I can't recall offhand the breeds they are not that uncommon and they have attacked adults. Now keep in mind these are purebreds and not mixes. Also it's not to say they haven't nipped at a child but that the injuries didn't require medical intervention which then has to be reported by law to the CDC. I agree no dog is to ever be fully trusted and never a cat.
ReplyDeleteI will go out on a limb and guess that one or more of the grandparents brought up the subject of potential danger to the newborn by the pit bulls but the dog owners just brushed off the concern.
