I live not far from Kmart and that used to be the first place I went when I needed something but it got so they didn't have anything I was looking for so now it' Walmart and I never even think about Kmart anymore. It's sad.
Sad, once an HUGE institution - only to fail on lack of ingenuity and forward thinking! Hope the generations of the Kresge family (as well as their future gens) enjoyed/saved/invested. Cuz the last 17 years of the new century have been truly awful! Even with Sears!!!
I was in KMart today just before noon and it was so hot in there I thought I would pass out. I went in the bathroom (which was so clean before) to put some cold water on my neck and the bathroom was dirty. It is sliding way down hill!!
I use to love the Kmart at what was once called Shopper's World, at least I think it was. Maybe it is still called that, I don't know. I never go there, anymore. I remember watching Snow White at the movie theater there after grabbing a General Lee Corgi car, an Icee, and a Pretzel at Kmart. Next to Toys R Us, it was one of my favorite stops when driving from Pocomoke. All we had was Roses or Ames, which was pretty awesome too, as a 5 year old.
When we first got our VCR, the only video rental place was in Salisbury, Phillips TV. Not a one in Princess Anne, or Pocomoke, and it was located in one of the metal sided buildings just south of the south Five Guys. This was about 1980-1981 and with the top loading VCR's. The expensive early models. Also, it was well before Video Den, or was it Video Magic on Eastern Shore Drive, next to Shore Stop? I think they now rent outdoor party supplies and Phillips has been long gone. First movie I rented was a new release, "The Toy." Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor dressed as Spider-man. Awesome!

ReplyDeleteLook at the employees of Kmart and you understand why Salisbury Kmart is such a mess.
ReplyDeleteThe store has black mold from all the roof leaks over the years. I cant go in there without wheezing and coughing. Their prices are too high also .
ReplyDeleteLast time I was in there, it was winter and freezing cold inside. I had to keep my gloves on.

I rambled. Apologies.
In the days before Wally World, this was the store to get reasonably priced kids' clothing and back to school supplies.
