MARYLAND ASIAN CAUCUS MEMBERS CALL FOR CHANGING STATE SONG

Maryland Asian Caucus Members Applaud Removal of Taney Statue and Call for Changing State Song

As members of Maryland’s Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus, we applaud the recent decision to remove the statue of Supreme Court Justice Roger Taney from the State House grounds and further call on the General Assembly to revise or replace our state song.

The Taney statue and the state song celebrate aspects of Maryland history in which we take no pride. The Confederate and Nazi themed white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia have reopened wounds from our nation’s history of slavery, segregation, and racial inequality. There are other ways to educate the public about this painful history without glorifying one of the worst rulings in American jurisprudence.

  10. Knuckleheads all. First signer has same last name as famous Confederate general; missed reading her plan to change it. BTW, the general's father was a Revolutionary War hero, and a close relative was president of Continental Congress.

The notion that this small group has formed a caucus is laughable; they could meet in two booths at McDonald's.

Guess it's time to remove all the graven images outside of the Statehouse since it is a de facto establishment of worship!

  11. I say Love America or leave it ASAP. These people or here because they have a better life. These people and any one else who wants to change America needs to go to the Country that have their views and denounce the US as their Country. They need to never return for any reason. Put sanctions against these Countries if they refuse to take them back or they refuse to leave the US.
