Construction for medical marijuana houses underway

Though the state legalized medical marijuana in 2012, not a single dispensary has opened, no patients have been treated and both the licensees and the regulators have remained quiet on the subject.

Three types of licenses are available: growers, processors and dispensers.

In Showell near Route 113, however, the first of the grow operations in Worcester is beginning to take shape. Three greenhouses are being built for the purposes of marijuana cultivation by licensee Shore Naturals LLC, registered to Erick Bruder, with an address in Ocean Pines.

The site is a former Perdue chicken facility, sold a couple of years ago bundled with others totaling approximately 700 acres in a deal worth about $3.5 million. The lot is less than a mile from the main facility representing the bulk of the 700 acres and only measures about 12 acres.

    1. Here's what 115 doesn't understand- people will smoke pot. Now, we can accept that fact, keep it legal, and let it be taxed. This way the incentive doesn't lead to a criminal gangs coffers. Prohibition and the Colombian cartels are prime examples. Plus pot is not nearly as bad as alcohol. I dare anyone to disagree with facts and No I don't smoke it or ingest it at all

    Including the government's heroin business.
    Including Big Pharma.
    Including the alcoholic beverage industry.
    Including Big Tobacco.
It goes on and on, doesn't it?

    1. Yup. Might as well tax it and keep normally decent people from a life of misery for pot "crimes"

Bet they do. AG Sessions just recently authored an Op-Ed for the WashPo in which he spelled out in no uncertain terms his feeling on marijuana. This isn't the time to be sinking any money (unless you have more money then brains) into an endeavor like this.

  7. Hey 1:15PM
Isn't that what all business is about?
I've been to Seattle a few times to see my daughter and legalized marijuana is no big deal there. The dispensaries are nice clean, the potency of the product is clearly labeled, just like a liquor store. Better to have it grown, sold and taxed by state-regulated businesses than sold by drug dealers on the street.

    I agree completely

Even though I haven't been to Seattle.

  10. Lol to the commenters who think that legalizing pot is going to make it safe for the area. Wait for the black market dealers to descend upon delmarva and sell a comparable product for 1/4 of the price.

guess I'll jump on the bandwagon and insinuate you are stupid too. ALL businesses are about $$$$. Keep your prejudices to yourself, it just makes you look dumber.

Why can't you wait? You are one of "those" people who like to see others suffer and be under the thumb of leo and government. I bet you have binoculars and a notepad to report on your neighbors too right?

Sessions has displayed his feelings about pot well before he was even appointed, that's nothing new. But even if he wanted to "raid" anyone or any business in any state, he has to have the funding to do so and cooperation from state and local LEO's for the manpower to carry it out. There are not enough fed agents to go from state to state and harass people who are obeying state laws.

There already is a black market for pot duh. Even if someone were able to undercut the dispensary prices, there would have to be someone to buy it. Why would they do that when they can get it legal and not worry about getting ripped off? Most of you don't think your nonsense through.

Such uninformed and misinformed people with likewise opinions.
